Scenario: Demon Lord's Castle Participants: Malefio (2) Initial Bid: 5 Coins Mission 1: Reach the castle Difficulty: **/10 - Simple
It's the dead of night as the wagon rolls to a halt. The horses shift and whinny nervously. The driver, a man in a thick coat and tri-cornered hat, turns back to his two passengers. "This is as far as I go," he says.
The pair disembark the wagon. One is a young girl with green hair in a tribal dress. The other is a man concealed in high-tech armor. The unlikely pair have been brought together by a singular purpose - a pair of sinister, glowing sigils on the back of their hands throb with a dull pain, one which has been steadily increasing in the last few hours. They know what they must do. And it must be done tonight, before the full moon sets.
A dead forest stretches out before them. Their goal is on the other side. They can feel it. The leafless trees stretch out, reaching over a dirt trail like an ominous gate.
The wagon driver finishes turning his cart around. He pauses before he departs to offer a few last words of advice. "This forest likes to play tricks. Let nothing distract you. Stay on the path and you'll be fine." The pair watch as he drives off, seeming to vanish into the darkness. They turn back to the forest. Three miles to go...

The mercenary laughs.
Zyrkan: "Ha! Tricks don't work on me."
He then looks at Pingle...
Zyrkan: "Aren't you a little young for this?"
Pingle doesn't answer.
Zyrkan: "Are you mute?"
She nods.
Zyrkan: "Okay... I'm not a babysitter. Take care of yourself."
Pingle will have a big venus flytrap come out of her back. It will attack anything coming close to her, preventing anything from sneaking behind her. Zyrkan will fly at a decent height to be out of range of enemies which could come out from bushes or something. He'll activate the flashlights on his pistols.
They will start following the path.

Zyrkan and Pingle proceed into the forest, taking precautions against the possible dangers. The air is thick and warm, but suddenly grows noticeably colder as they near the end of their first mile. The sound of cracking wood suddenly comes from the left of the trail, right beside the travelers, as if someone had stepped on a large stick. A smaller crackling noise emanates from the right of the trail a second later.

Zyrkan will scan for enemies. Pingle will generate vinewhips from her hands. If Zyrkan scans no enemies, they will move forward.
If enemies are detected, Zyrkan will shoot each one with a pistol with rapid fire. Pingle will aim to grab their legs with her whip if they jump her.

Zyrkan activates his scanner and quickly swings between the two sounds. Pingle adopts a defensive stance.
He doesn't find anything in the direction of the larger cracking noise. When he turns the other way, he sees the outline of a white, golden-eyed fox. He levels his pistol. It looks up at him and starts slowly backing away with its ears drawn back.

"Alright... He's scared... Let's just continue little girl."
Onwards!

You let the fox go about its business and it quickly runs off into the forest.
You continue along the path. You manage to make it almost another mile without encountering anything but the wind and the swaying trees, reaching out like claws in the moonlight.
A loud crashing noise from the front catches your attention. A large log, half Pingle's height and wide enough to cover the path, comes thundering and rolling down the trail straight towards her.

Before the log hits her, Pingle will make a giant beanstalk bounce above her. (It sprouts from the ground and launches enemies into the air, does no damage.)

A beanstalk bursts from the ground and sproings the log harmlessly over Pingle's head. It's launched so hard Zyrkan has to scurry to avoid it - the log seems to be much, much lighter than it looked. It crashes back to the ground and continues about its merry way, soon fading from view.
The party doesn't make it quite so far before the next interruption. Something shiny at the edge of the path catches their attention. Gold coins? A trail of them, extending just a few off the trail and into the woods, ending with a large pile of glittering gold. So shiny...

Zyrkan looks at the gold coin and seems tempted for a second, as he notices Pingle moving forward, not giving a single glance at the gold.
Zyrkan: "Right... Not part of the mission. Follow the path."
They continue.

The party decides to ignore the obvious trap and carry on. Before long, their destination comes into view, the edge of the forest. The castle, perched on a cliff, looms ominously in the distance... but they'll cross that bridge when they get to it. For now, just a few hundred more feet...
Two unfamiliar - to Pingle and Zyrkan, anyway - voices softly whisper behind them.
"Whatever you do, don't turn around...! Hehe... Eehaha...!"
"Mah, maaaagius..."

(Hmm... It's not an illusion cause Zyrkan wouldn't hear it, but they are not behind Pingle cause the flytrap would have attacked...
Alright...)
Zyrkan will charge his pistols while scanning for enemies. He won't attack, he'll use evasive maneuvers with his jetpack.
Pingle will will protect herself with a thornvine dome.

Pingle throws up a dome of thorns and vines. Zyrkan turns around and starts scanning for enemies, boosting to put some distance from the sound and readying his pistols. A pair of figures float in the middle of the road behind them, a purple-haired woman and some sort of matching purple creature. A branch is jutting through one of them. Intangibility? So that's how they avoided triggering the flytrap... Now that's just not fair at all. Fortunately, they don't seem to be here to fight. The woman throws her hands up in a shrug, sighs, and shakes her head. "I wa-a-a-a-arned yo-o-o-o-ou..." The pair fades away without another word.
Zyrkan immediately becomes aware of something approaching, another figure far in the distance. Even from within her dome, Pingle can feel it as well as the ground trembles beneath her feet.
A huge, dog-like creature, wearing a blindfold and with horns jutting out of its forehead is thundering down the path. It's large enough to be visible even at a considerable distance. They've got perhaps 20 seconds before the beast will be upon them. The heroes look back to the castle. Their goal is so close...!

Ha! Ha!
Time for mind games.
Pingle will have vines make her come out from behind the dome. The big dog shouldn't notice that. She'll then run to the castle while he attacks the dome.
Zyrkan can just jetpack his way to the castle.

Zyrkan breaks for the exit while Pingle sets up a trap before running after him. She can hear the sounds of the monster crashing and tearing into her dome as she reaches the edge of the forest.
As the pair exit the forest, the atmosphere seems to shift. The creature refuses to follow. Everything feels somehow more... hopeful as they look upon the trail winding its way up to the castle's front gate. But as they take their first few steps, that hope immediately vanishes. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED
Current winnings: 10 coins Next mission: 20 coins Difficulty: *****/10 - Average
Continue? (A) Yes (B) No (Now that I think about it, I wonder if Zyrkan would've seen that fox's true form...? Hm... No. It's a transmutation class spell - a proper polymorph, not an illusion.)
