You walk back to your town, leaving the Mermen behind. To the south are many hills. The hills prevent you from seeing far, but you see a few points of interests.
There's something that looks like an observation tower. You could get a good look from there.
You can see a windmill in the distance.
There is a mountain with waterfalls pouring out of it. You assume that if you go there and follow the source of water, that will lead you to the beach.
Oh... And there's also a giant silhouette roaming the hills. You can't identify it from here, but it's definitely a crustacean.

You walk in direction of the waterfall, eventually reaching where it pours into: a lake. You can see it from atop a hill. There is indeed a river to follow.
Around the lake are some really goopy creatures. They stand on two legs, blue goop dripping from their arms. They have big gaping holes where their head would be, but their mouth seem to be on the belly's level and are just lipless series of sharp teeth.
They seem to just be splashing water at each others.

You shout from atop your hill, then every single one of the 20 goopy creatures turn around to look at you. They are slowly approaching you...
You're not sure if that's good or not, as they don't seem particularly expressive.

That's definitely what whatever noises are coming out of their mouth sounds like. They are still approaching very slowly.
