And so your party find themselves sailing on the Sea of Thorns. Come to think of it...Why do they call it that? It doesn't look particularly spiky.
While sailing along, the captain calls to you. "Yer all adventurers, aren't ya? Well, take care o' those monsters ya see. We'll be bit busy steering the ship. HARHARHAR!" Um...Why is he laughing like that? "I've never tried to keep a ship afloat while a sea serpent was attackin'!"
A what now!?
Before you have time to question the captain, monsters jump up from the water and attack! Spiky octopus? You feel like you just figured out why this is the sea of thorns. Your party is caught off guard as the enemy gets a preemptive strike!
One of the Octothorns blasts the thorns from its head, spraying them all over the party! Barfy receives 2 damage. Oiya receives 1 damage. Amanda receives 1 damage. Heather receives 1 damage.

Barfy opens his mouth, unleashing a lightning breath on one of the Octothorns and dealing 11 damage. Heather then quickly casts heal, creating a soothing light around Barfy and restoring 8 health. Amanda then runs forward and slashes another Octothorn before jumping up and slamming her sword into it again, causing sparks to fly out everywhere. A critical hit! Amanda dishes out 8 + 16 damage total. The Octothorn seems stunned for a moment while its allies all move in to attack. Two of the Octothorns fire blasts of bubbles at Oiya and Barfy, dealing 1 damage each. The last and most damaged Octothorn unleashes another rain of thorns on the party. Barfy receives 2 damage. Oiya receives 1 damage. Amanda receives 1 damage. Heather receives 1 damage. Oiya swings her sword into the most damaged Octothorn, dealing 3 damage and defeating it.

Heather defends. Barfy casts Fireball, shooting flames from his mouth into one of the enemy Octothorns! The Octothorn receives 22 damage! The attack seems to be extra effective! The enemy Octothorn is defeated. Amanda then stabs the non damaged Octothorn for 8 damage. The remaining Octothorn spits bubbles at Amanda, dealing 8 damage! Oiya quickly slashes at the remaining Octothorn twice with her sword, dealing 3 + 3 damage.

Barfy smacks the Octothorn with his staff, dealing 1 damage. Heather casts heal, restoring Amanda's health and healing her wounds with a soothing light. Amanda recovers 8 health. Feeling more refreshed, Amanda slashes at the Octothorn with her sword, dealing 8 damage. The Octothorn releases a spray of thorns on the party! Oiya receives 1 damage. Barfy receives 2 damage. Amanda receives 1 damage. Heather receives 1 damage. Oiya smacks the Octothorn with her blade, finishing the fight.

With the Octothorns defeated, the party takes a moment to breathe. However, they don't have much time until they are attacked by another group of enemies, leaping from the water. Winged fish with long, sharp noses and a giant clam that appears to have sharp fangs in its mouth.
