---Main Structure---
This will be structured like a normal pokemon game. You all start in the same town, trying to get all 8 badges and challenge the league. There's grass where you can find wild pokemon in. You'll meet bad guys down the road. Trainers will challenge you. Yadda yadda yadda.
What will change from the main structure is the leveling up system. As you know, I don't like using stats. So I'll deal with leveling up by limiting the movepool. How it'll work is that your Pokemon has access to all his movepool from level 1 to 10 at the start of the game. The movepool threshold goes up of 10 levels everytime you get a badge. Which means you have access to moves up to level 20 when you get your first badge, 30 on your second and so on. 8th badge puts you at level 90, so let's say beating the league gives you full access to your movepool (Are there even new moves after level 70?)
Another change to the structure is that I might let all players go on their own path. There won't be a specific order to do the gym in. Opponents will always be scaled to how many badges you have.
---Battles---
Wild battles will be 1VS1 in this game. I'll probably add an item that causes horde battles though.
Single, Double, Triple and Rotation battles will appear. I have no intention of including Battle Royale.
Foes have difficulty levels. It goes in this order: Wild, Trainer, Enemy Team, Gym Trainer, Gym Leader, Boss.
Battles are not turn-based. Every turn, Pokemon can use one move and one movement action (moving to a specific place, running, dodging, etc.). As per usual, the Pokemon forfeits his turn if the trainer uses an item on him or switches him with another Pokemon.
Random trainers will challenge you when you meet them. Unlike real Pokemon game, you can refuse a challenge. Of course, scripted/story fights cannot be avoided.
Totem Pokemon will appear. They will be harder than in Sun and Moon, able to survive enough to wipe out a whole team. These Pokemon can be fought by up to three different trainers at a time. Legendary Pokemon might be handled the same way.
---Getting Pokemon---
You can start with any Pokemon you want. The only restriction is that it can't already be evolved. Evolution follows the same rule as the movepool. Your Pokemon can evolve whenever you want it if it's evolution is in the level range the pokemon is supposed to be. (Pokemon evolving at level 16 requires a single badge, level 32 would require 3.)
Actual Starter Pokemon cannot be found in grass, but don't worry, they will be somewhere in the game.
As said, you can level up your Pokemon whenever you want as long as the level rule is respected. Wether you evolve it instantly when you get the appropriate badge, wait for a story related event or just cheat by having him evolve in the middle of a battle is in your hand.
Of course, you get new Pokemon by spending time in tall grass and catching them with a Pokeball. There's various other ways to get Pokemon, but it's still the main one. 6 Pokemon at a time with you, otherwise, they are sent in the PC.
This game will include a mechanic called Soul Stones. We're at 7 generations and there's seven Soul Stones. This mechanic is to simplify my life. If you go in tall grass with the third stone equipped, you'll meet generation 3 Pokemon. Every player starts with all seven stones.
---Moveset---
Pokemon have only 4 moves at a time. They can always be changed at a PC amongst the available movepool.
