Umm punch the fuck out of this mermaid in the face as hard and as rapidly as possible. All while trying to book it back to the shore.

You sucker punch the creepy mermaid, making her let go just long enough for you to start running back to the shore. She lets out a terrible screech, deafening you as you run. You can barely hear anything. There's a loud ringing in your ears. At about ankle deep in the water, the mermaid monster springs out and grabs your ankle with both hands. Her beautiful face now contorts to show her true design. A single, giant eye along with a massive pair of sharp chompers takes its place. She screeches something at you, but you can't really tell what it is. Auri flashes in your hand, signifying that she's saying something, but you can't hear her.
This thing has a pretty strong grip...!

Jess will continue to punch, kick, claw, poke it in the freaking eye. Whatever we need to do to get it to let loose our grip.

You go right for a punch in the eye, making the creature shriek and release your leg. You try to speak with Auri, but your hearing is still shot. You continue to run toward dry land, getting as much distance as you can from the mermaid monster. She continues to crawl toward you, significantly slower on the sand than in the water. This thing sure is persistent, you give it that. You look around. Escape shouldn't be too hard. You could try running along the beach or maybe climbing up this sheer cliff? It wouldn't be easy and would certainly be dangerous, but there's no way the monster could follow you up there.
Or maybe there's another way to handle this...?

screw that thing. Jess will continue to put distance and regain her bearings.
Keep it just out of reach and carefully observe it. Oh and keep a look out for anything that can be used as a weapon.

"Yo...Da...Sa..." Your hearing is starting to come back a little as you hear what you can assume is Auri saving your data.
You run toward the sea cliff, getting out of reach and observing the creature. It looks like a mermaid with a monstrous face. It has one large, serpent-like eye and massive, sharp teeth. Its jaw could probably unhinge to eat you whole. You frantically look around for weapons on the beach. There's a wooden plank half buried on the beach, but it's close to the monster. A few seashells and rocks are around too. There's some seaweed...could that help?
You look at the sea cliff quickly. If you could find a way to break some of the rocks off, you could probably crush her under a rockslide...

You desperately attempt to climb the sea cliff, but without proper footing or experience, you very quickly fall back down onto the sand. Luckily, you weren't injured. The mermaid monster has gotten much closer to you, however! She lunges with her fangs bared!
"Loading..."
In a flash of light, Auri places you back to where you were just a few moments ago with the mermaid monster distanced from you.

Look for a path up the sea cliff. If the mermaid gets creature or there's no path then book it as fat away from her as possible.
Gotta go faster.

You look around, noticing that there's no way to climb up the sea wall like this. Instead, you decide to book it, running away from the monster and escaping with your life.
Your hearing seems to be back and perfectly fine now. You find yourself alone on the beach, able to go up the sea cliff path now. Are you ready to leave behind this beach and head into the city?
