Dammit, you really did go with the four move limitation. Are we at least allowed to use them in more creative ways like making a ring of illusory clones around a target with Double Team which disappear after one hit?

Yeah, but your Double Team can't make multiples of you that can attack. The point of the move is to make decoys, not copies of yourself.
Basically, it's the same system as PMD.

Hmm... well, at least the Double Team Future Sight combo should still work, but now between that and Detect in the next three levels I've only got room for one more move, probably Night Slash since I want a good STAB attack, but then I'm missing Swords Dance which is a great setup move. This is (part of) why I don't like having the four move limitation since it arbitrarily removed a lot of versatility (in RPs without it I've sometimes used five or more moves all in one battle) for no real reason except to maintain a mechanic which works in the main games to keep the UI simple but doesn't really make sense from a logical perspective. Seriously, an Alakazam has an IQ of 5000 but can't learn how to do 5 things without forgetting one of them?

You only have four moves because if you had the versatility of every move you can learn, then you'd steamroll all the opponents. I want you guys to actually struggle and have to think and plan accordingly to your limitations. And I'd like to see you have to switch Pokemon rather than just use one all the time because it has more moves. The four move limitation isn't just better for making the game more difficult, but works as a balance mechanic as well. Besides, one of the best parts is to balance your status changes and attacks. That's why some Pokemon take certain roles.
Basically, don't complain because I said so and THIS is not whatever it is you're referring to, nor do I want it to be.
