The group, led by Cross and the other man, walk through the large doors to the inside of the palace into an empty hallway, the embellished walls and floor reflecting the sunlight from the outside let in by windows. Right across from the doors you entered in is another pair of similarly large, royal-looking doors. Entering, the group finds themselves on some sort of golden balcony, now set high over an oddly featureless room of colossal size with a dome ceiling. Blue lights from the center move along the gray floor and walls as the group descends down a larger than life staircase, spiraling along the wall.
Cross: "Now, THIS is where the fun happens! This is what we call our facility's main Advanced Reality Colosseum; to put it short, the ARC. The insane technology driving this place lets us simulate ungodly levels of realism in one arena. It's free right now, so we're gonna let you borrow it to practice using your spazzed-up new bodies. Watch this..."
As the group reaches the bottom of the staircase, Cross takes out some sort of device from his jacket and presses a few buttons. In response, the center of the room gives off a soft sound, and the blue lights moving across the room now replace the gray floor at your feet with lush green grass, and the gray walls and golden balcony disappear into a beautifully sunny sky. Mountains and lakes can be seen in the very far distance.
Cross: "One of these days, I'll hit the self destruct button or something... Anyways, welcome to boot camp! There's a bunch of evil crap in the world that the big bosses upstairs want us to kill for 'em, so we gotta be ready to stay woke with one eye at night and kill baddies! Now, that borderline addictive force you got going on in your bodies and souls right now? Let’s put that funky feeling to do some work! Take it over, L!”
Cross plops down on the grass as the man with the white hair stands in front of the newcomers.
“...Introductions. My name is Lazaru. I serve under the title of the Power of Energy. A very important role. The force dwelling within you all now… We refer to it simply as Energy. Consider it the very materialization of the gods’ true capabilities on this earth. This Energy allows us to fight far beyond our ordinary limits and alter the universe itself - to varying degrees.
Energy is vital for combat; but first, I shall explain how battles truly work… Bear with me.
In battle… managing your Energy is key to victory. We require Energy in order to activate our Skills; Skills are special abilities we use in battle. Basic attacks and movement cost no Energy, but your Skills will consume your Energy every time they are used. The reason why Energy management is so important is that on our missions, we typically don’t encounter one or two battles. Rather, missions can involve many quarrels with the enemy, with no time to restore our Energy in between.
The one benefit we do receive is that our enemies contain souls and bodies infused with Energy themselves… When an enemy is vanquished, portions of their Energy are launched out of their souls and naturally absorbed by us, ever so slightly restoring our own Energy in the midst of battle. And when enemies are caught in chains of attacks by various allies, their souls can become... quite lucrative. That should give you all some idea of combat before we begin our simulation...
Now… take the time to reflect. Meditate. Focus on the power within yearning to serve its purpose, and concentrate on how to manipulate it to your abilities. Manifest your power…”
(Create 3 starting Skills for your character to use in battle. These may vary from attacks, healing, restoring energy, buffs/debuffs, movement, etc. Weapon-related skills can also transfer to other weapons used. Build your character as you’d like, but remember that you’re limited by what Power you are; for example, all of you likely can’t use water attacks.
The only big rule is that I will be determining how much Energy every one of your Skills costs to use. The more powerful, the more Energy it’ll cost to use. Don't worry about this part for now though. This is just the best method I find for balancing gameplay.
And to clarify, Energy is a numerical value in battle, and is the only stat in this game to be calculated with a numerical value. All other stats in the game, such as health and defense, are more arbitrary. If you have questions about Skills, feel free to ask.)
