You approach the running stream of water, and prepare to fish with an old fishing rod that you found in the back of your grandfather's cabin. You reel your line back and throw it into the water. You do this for a few hours, and end up with a pretty good take! You also fill up some bottles of water and head back to the cabin.
You Found 5 Water Bottles 3 Fish (weigh 2 each, worth 4 food each.)

You went into the woods to see if you could find some lumber. You found a shack, and searched the shed. To your surprise, you found a fire axe! In your excitement, you forgot to check inside the house. You chopped up 2 trees, and decided to check the river for fish before going home.
You found +2 water bottles 2 fish (same as last time) A fire axe (2 weight) 5 planks of wood (1 pound each)

Okay, so yesterday's fish took 2 slots each, so I have 4 left.
I'll take the Fire Axe and 2 woods.

Is fire axe a weapon or a tool?

(By the way, you have 10 open bag slots unless you have tools equipped. Weapons and outfits don't count against your carrying capacity if they are equipped, and everything else you have found goes into your stash.)
You decide to go for the suburbs today, and head into town. You know you need a better bag, so you decide to look in a small local shop. When you enter the shop, you are shocked to see 3 zombies in the building. You dispatch of the first with a swift blow to the head, but the other two begin attacking you relentlessly. You manage to slip out of their grasp, and you shove over a shelf that falls on top of the zombies, crushing one completely but only destroying the others legs. The third zombie begins crawling after you, and you stab it in the head with your kitchen knife. You catch your breath, and look around the shop. You empty the shelves and head back home.
You Found 4 cans of food 1 medium container of water (5 units of water, takes up 2 slots) A primary weapon holster (2 weight) A Hiking bag (2 weight, 12 slots)
You have 10 slots open. You can hold everything you found so you take it all.

Wait, I thought weight was the number of slot it takes.
What is weight then?

When you first find it, you have to put it in your bag because you can't strip in the middle of the apocalypse! (Well you could... but...) The weight is just there originally to show how much it takes up for traveling around without it equipped. If you were to trade it, you would also have to carry it in your bag. If it is equipped, it still weighs 3 pounds, but it doesn't take up any slots in your backpack.

So I have everything from the last 2 drop offs?

Your first trip has 13 slots total, so you need to get rid of 3 slots total.
The second trip is a perfect 10 slots, which just so happens to be what you have.

Okay, so I'll take 4 woods and 1 fish except of only 2 woods.
So when I equip something, that's when it takes a slot right?

For the goods drop off topic, the weight mentioned is only relevant to your current carrying capacity. Your equipment doesn't effect your carrying capacity. Your backpack has 10 slots, so you can carry 10 weight home. If you carry a tool with you, like a compass and map or a hunting knife, it takes up one slot in your bag, resulting in 9 slots open.

As you enter the suburbs you see a man entering a house. You follow quietly, but as you enter you announce yourself.
"Hello? I saw you come in here a second ago. I don't mean any harm, I just haven't seen another human in weeks!"
