Btw, one last heads up. I don't know if this is what Just is going for with this fight, but Final Fantasy 10 had a few fight like this (you were on an airship fighting an airborne boss that you can move closer or further away from). The trick is to stay close most of the time so that everyone can attack, but when the boss begins charging up their strongest attack (Evrae had Poison Breath, Sin's arms had Gravija, and Ifrit will probably have Hellfire), you want to have one of the characters (in that game it had to be Tidus or Rikku, here it can probably be anyone) use the trigger command "Pull Back" to tell Cid to fly to a safe distance (or here, tell Phoenix) in order to dodge the attack, and then use the trigger command "Move In" on the next turn to get back into melee range. With that in mind:
Lupis uses Move In.
"Alright Phoenix, let's close the distance on this thing!"
Sylvia uses Water Blast.

Soup ignores the explosion and continues working. Not much else to say other than he made more SOUP!
"Oh, okay. It looks angry. Joey, why did all of these big monsters start showing up?"
Kick and Reese decide to run towards the big, flaming monster. Gray and Tren follow behind as well. Kick can feel the Slime bubbling around in his head.
"Alright, I'm flying in close." Phoenix closes in on Ifrit, flying close enough for physical attacks to hit. Lupis stands in front, ready to take the first attack and defending. Yura follows up, using Dirty Tricks to take some of Phoenix's feathers. Yura obtained some Phoenix Down! "Ouch! That hurt! You better not do that again!" Aven fuses electricity into his blade and slashes away at Ifrit. Sylvia then blasts some water into the open wounds, causing Ifrit to roar in anger. With one of its large claws, it swipes at the group, hitting Lupis. That attack was very powerful too. Ifrit then attacks again with its other claw, hitting Lupis again. Despite defending and being prepared for the attack, Lupis still has a huge gash on his side. He gets up, still prepared to fight this thing though. "It looks like you're doing okay, but if you need me to, I can pull back. Just tell me."
(Nice job detecting the whole airship mechanic.)

Sylvia uses Heal on Lupis.

Think I should throw a heal on Lupis while Yura attacks a bit or both of us press the attack with just a single heal?
Ifrit attacks twice it seems so not sure...

"...I don't know..." Cheri clearly has mixed feelings about it. She doesn't look happy though. "...Why does everyone leave, Joey? My parents left me and my sister...then my sister was gone...now Mr. Pooky is gone..." Cheri sits down on the ground of the castle's top. She begins to cry as the sun starts to set in the distance.

Through sniffles and sobs, the girl manages to talk to Joey. "Joey, I miss them. But I'm happy you're here. Do you think we can see them again one day? Like how you saw Danatharf again?" Cheri hugs Joey tightly, crying a bit more. She manages to calm down a bit after, wiping the tears off her face, still while holding onto Joey. "I think I feel a little better now. Thank you for being with me today, Joey." Cheri gives Joey another big hug before the two manage to get up. "I almost forgot! Here, you go Joey, it's your prize for the mission." Cheri takes out 50 Gold, handing it to Joey. "I hope it's enough. The Item Shop doesn't have a lot of people come by since it was just me..."

Lupis stands in front, ready to defend again as both Aven and Sylvia throw a Heal towards him. Yura runs ahead, slashing Ifrit with a knife before kicking off of it, flipping back into place behind Lupis. That was actually pretty cool. Ifrit roars angrily and slams his fists into the volcano, breathing out a fire breath on the whole party. Lupis blocks most of the flames out and Yura dodges the attack with a well timed, acrobatic jump. It seems the ones hit the worst by the fire breath were Aven and Sylvia though with burn marks all over them.
