Tana gives the pair an exasperated look and sighs. "Look, I haven't eaten since... 6 this morning. So I'm heading to dinner. Kayla, we need to talk about these results, so I'll treat you. And I think it might be a good idea for your friend to be around for this. Assuming that's alright with you?"

"Of course she is..." Lizzy groans and draws her knees up, curling into a defensive posture. "She's going to summon something else before too long, I'm sure of it. Something worse. And I won't be there to protect her this time..." You notice her eyes tearing up a bit.

Interesting.

Francis and Kayla

"Great," Tana says.  "Oh, and it's... Sergeant Wash- ah, nevermind, Tana is fine.  Come on, the chief recommended I try out this little place not far from here.  I've been itching to try it, and this seems like a good excuse."  She smiles warmly and seems rather excited.

She leads you to a small bar not far away, The Drunken Ferret, and asks for a booth near the corner.  She looks at the menu for a bit.  "Maybe I should get a salad... but this looks so good."  When she sees an order going to a different table, she orders a plate of nachos without hesitation.  And a tequila sunrise, extra strong, straight up.

She turns to Kayla and slides her an envelope.  "Well... the good... or, in this case, maybe the bad news is that we found no trace of drugs in your system."

You prepare to start reading the snooze-tastic book about finances when a chime plays over the speakers.  "Ladies and gentlemen, the library will be closing shortly.  If you wish to check out any books, please do so immediately..."

Was the gun identified?

Am I getting arrested?

I won't resist if that's the case. That'd mean I have something to hide."

Kayla and Francis

"The gun... was identified," Tana admits.  "And it's related to a missing persons case.  I probably shouldn't say this, but...  You're being treated as a person of interest, but you aren't a suspect.  We're looking into any potential links you may have had to the victim, but nothing's turned up.  And as long as it stays that way and you stick to your story, you should be fine."  Her nachos arrive and she hungrily starts attacking them, taking big drinks from her booze.

You check out the book without any hassles, and you're subtly shooed out of the library.  Where to next?

Lizzy grins.  There's not any real joy in her smile.  "I'm tougher than I look," she says as she flexes her arm.  "I managed to protect her last time, didn't I?  And... all this time until now.  But I'm in no shape right now.  She'll summon... something.  And it'll probably kill her, then who knows how many other people."  Her face slowly twists into a pleading look.  "Y'know, there is... something we can do."

Sit on a bench and read it.

Cyrus

"Sabotage her research, of course. I've done it several times in the past. I was too slow last time because she had an unexpected breakthrough, some... help." Lizzy's face scrunches up. "I dealt with that problem, but I was too late to stop her. Ah, well. All you need to do is get your hands on her research and change a few numbers. I can walk you through it..."
