Once upon a time, in a land far, far away, dragons and man lived in harmony. Together, they shaped great works of art and towering palaces, and created wonders unlike any had seen. They moved mountains and tamed the seas. Humanity gave the dragons tribute and worship, and treated them as friends and companions. And, in turn, dragons swore to always protect humanity, and guide them into the future. The dragons who ruled the skies, and the humans who created great kingdoms and empires below. United in harmony and fellowship, the land prospered for millennia. This came to be known as the First Age, or the Golden Age. And this land that belonged to both dragons and man was called...
Dragonia
The World
Dragonia is a rich and bountiful land of varying climates and landscapes. The vast Pangaea-like continent of Dragonia stands in the center of a gorgeous blue planet, surrounded on all sides by the Great Ocean. To the south of the continent is a vast archipelago of tropical islands, with lush jungles and huge volcanoes. To the north of the continent is a mythical land of ice, pristine and untouched, and almost entirely unexplored. Far above the clouds are the legendary floating islands known as the Sky Lands, which are forever adrift and always moving. Even dragons rarely fly there, as the islands are so hard to find. Humanity thrives in the center of the continent of Dragonia, amidst the abundant forests, twisting rivers, and wide open plains. It is here humans go about their lives as hunters, explorers, builders, merchants, and more, in what is mostly a fantasy medieval style culture. The southern half of the continent is dominated by a huge desert, with many unexplored areas and ruins just waiting to be discovered! A tall, vast mountain range splits the continent, dividing the central and southern halves. It is here, in the Spineyback Range, that most dragons are hatched and begin their long journeys. The northernmost side of the continent is home to Yggdrasil, the World Tree, the Far Green Forest, and the Giant Steppes, which stretch for miles and miles. Wildlife and nature is at its peak here, and herds of sheep and goats graze for as far as the eye can see.
But that is only the beginning! Who knows how many other different lands await you, out there beyond the great blue sea? Who knows how far your wings can carry you! From ancient undersea ruins and cities, to unexplored islands, and much, much more, new discoveries are endless!
Discovering new areas
At the start of the game, your dragon will only have access to a few areas to explore, which will change depending on your starting location. As you gain levels, discover new places, meet other dragons, and progress through the story, more and more new locations will become available to you. The materials, items, and dragon types found in each location differ depending on the location, weather, and time of day.
The main ways to discover new areas are as follows:
°Exploring and flying around
°Meeting, talking to, and befriending other dragons
°Helping humans
°Scouting for new lands
°Completing quests or progressing in the main story
°Purchasing special DLC lands with Arena Coins
There may be other ways to find new lands too! So get exploring!
The Story
The Second Age began quietly, without fuss or spectacle. It all began when a certain red dragon was hatched. You see, this dragon, was born of a very rare breed known as a Great Horned Dragon. Great Horned Dragons are much larger and more powerful than most other dragons, but they also have a tendency to be much more violent. This dragon, however, was still only a hatchling, and was not violent at all. He lived in a mountain cave, above a small secluded human village that nestled at the base of the mountain. He was a very shy dragon, and rarely ventured out of his cave, so a young human girl took to bringing him food. The dragon and the girl bonded and became very close friends, and they were happy. But the other villagers were cautious and wary. What if the dragon bit her while she fed him? Great Horned Dragons were very violent, after all. It was in their nature. This was how the villagers thought, and even as the months passed without incident, their cautious and wary attitudes slowly turned to fear. And if left unchecked, fear begets hatred, and hatred creates tragedy. One day, the villagers followed the girl to the dragon's cave, without her knowledge. Then, when the young dragon was content and full of food, the villagers rushed in with spears and swords. The dragon, who had never known any humans other than the girl, naturally assumed she had betrayed him. Heartbroken and wounded, the poor little dragon fled his only home and took to the skies. He eventually settled in the desert to the south, where, as the legends say, he stayed for hundreds of years, all the while growing more and more bitter. This poor, unfortunate dragon, who once loved humans, grew to hate and despise them. So he studied ancient, forbidden magicks, and plotted his revenge.
Rise of the Demon King
The Dragon mastered the ancient magicks, and used them to control and enslave the mindless monsters and animals that inhabited Dragonia. He then gathered other dragons to his cause, who had also been hurt or mistreated by their human partners over the years. Declaring himself the "Demon King," the Dragon waged war on the human kingdoms, beginning a war that lasted for nearly a century and scarred Dragonia forever. The dragons who still believed in humans fought to protect them and rose up against him. The Demon King was eventually defeated and sealed inside the Dark Island, trapping him forever. His armies were driven back and dispersed, but the true damage had already been done. Humans and Dragons began to drift apart.
The Third Age Dawns
At the start of our tale, a thousand years have passed since the Demon King's defeat. The land has healed, and prosperity reigns once more. But not everything is as it used to be. Dragons are divided now, with some preferring the old ways of coexisting with humans, while others followed the way of the Demon King and believed humans were untrustworthy and that dragons should be the masters of all, and others still preferring simply to live in peace and isolation. Out of these new beliefs, Clans were formed. Like-minded dragons banded together to create their own societies and communities, and as a result, more and more new dragons began to appear. Dragons who had never bred outside their own type began to breed with different dragons, and countless new species, types, colors, and appearances were born. As the dragon population skyrocketed like never before, more and more dragons began to go out and explore the world, and look for new territory and new mates. Eventually, the Dragon Explorer's Guild was born, and the Third Age, an age of endless wonder and discovery, blossomed and prospered.
This is the world you are born into. You are a new hatchling. Your dragon parents have birthed you, raised you, and left you to find your own way in this vast new world. Your own journey begins in your nest, and where it will take you, only the winds can tell. Your new life is about to unfold!
But all is not as it seems in the land of Dragonia...
A dark, forgotten power begins to surface in the south. The Demon King begins to stir once more.
Starting Dragon Types and Attributes
No two dragons are identical. Dragons come in different sizes, shapes, colors, patterns, and more. Some dragons have feathered wings, while other dragons have slender serpentine bodies and prefer to swim. Some dragons are large and rocky, and are often mistaken for boulders or hills, while others blend in with the forests and grassy areas. Other dragons live in the murky depths of swamps and lakes and sing all night long. The abilities and varieties of dragons are endless! Dragons are wondrous creatures, but there sure are a lot of them. So, to make things easier, dragons are divided into categories, or "Types", depending on their overall appearance, habitat, behavior, and abilities. There are countless different Dragon Types, however only a few will be unlocked at the start. In order to unlock other Types, you have to befriend and breed dragons! The physical attributes and abilities of dragons are classified as "ranks". The higher the rank, the better the dragon is in that category. Ranks start at E, and increase to D, C, B, A, and S. Some Legendary Dragons even have attributes ranked higher than S! Collect many different dragons, and you'll have an answer to any problem!
Size: The length, height, and overall size of a dragon. Also measures a dragon's Endurance, or "HP", and Stamina. Once a dragon is out of Endurance, it faints and must rest before it can battle again. Make sure to take good care of your dragons! Stamina is how long a dragon can fly or swim without resting. If your Stamina runs out you'll have to rest for a day before you can explore again, so be careful!
Power: This measures a dragon's physical strength, and determines how much damage your dragon does with physical attacks.
Magic: This measures how much damage your dragon does with magical attacks, like Breath attacks and spells, as well as how resistant they are to enemy magical attacks.
Defense: This measures how resistant your dragon is against physical attacks.
Dexterity: This measures how fast, nimble, or agile your dragon is, and the likelihood that they can dodge enemy attacks.
Intelligence: This represents how smart your dragon is. All dragons are sentient and can communicate with other dragons, but extremely intelligent dragons may even be able to communicate with humans or solve complex riddles and puzzles!
Flight: This attribute represents how well your dragon can fly.
Swim: This attribute represents how well your dragon can swim.
These 6 attributes, or stats, are found in all dragons, but vary wildly. The last two attributes, Flight and Swim, are found in most dragons, but not all. A dragon that cannot swim or fly will have a "N/A" listed for that attribute.
Starting Types
Lava Dragon
Size: D
Power: C
Magic: E
Defense: C
Dexterity: E
Intelligence: D
Flight: E
Swim: B(Only in Lava)
Appearance: Lava Dragons tend to be large lizard-like dragons with four legs, a long spiky tail, short stubby wings, and multicolored frills around their necks. Their frills are a source of tremendous pride for Lava Dragons. The larger and more vivid a Lava Dragon's frills are, the more handsome or beautiful and popular they are. Lava Dragons usually have many mates.
Combat: Lava Dragons prefer to remain in lava pools and lob fireballs at opponents from afar. But due to the lava that hardens around their scales, they have excellent defense.
Starting Abilities: Puff Puff! The Lava Dragon puffs out his/her frills and looses a cloud of noxious smoke, which temporarily blinds other dragons and gives the Lava Dragon a quick escape route.
Lava Spit: The Lava Dragon spits a large glob of molten lava at the foe.
River Dragon
Size: E
Power: E
Magic: C
Defense: E
Dexterity: C
Intelligence: C
Flight: D
Swim: C
Appearance: River Dragons are almost always female, and are fairly small, slender serpentine dragons with vividly colored scales, long tails, and shiny feathered wings. River Dragons are famous for being extremely beautiful and intelligent, as well as kind and gentle. The more beautiful a River Dragon, the more popular they are. The colors of their scales vary widely, and are always a combination of three or more bright colors. For example, some River Dragons have green, blue, and purple scales, while others have turquoise, green, and silver scales.
Combat: River Dragons are peaceful creatures and rarely fight. But if they need to defend themselves, they are very fast and well versed in magic. River Dragons can fly, though they would much rather swim.
Starting Abilities: Waterbreathing- This dragon can breathe underwater indefinitely and swim in both shallow and deep water. Can be passed on to children to allow other species of dragons to swim in water, that would not normally be able to. Like Lava Dragons or Boulder Dragons, for example. For this reason, River Dragons make exceptionally good mates.
Color Spray: The River Dragon looses a beam of highly concentrated multicolored water.
Boulder Dragon
Size: C
Power: C
Magic: E
Defense: B
Dexterity: E
Intelligence: D
Flight: E
Swim: N/A
Appearance: This large, rocky dragon is often mistaken for a boulder or rock formation. They are four legged dragons with stubby wings and short tails, with very hard scales covered in rocks. They're actually surprisingly adorable and very affectionate creatures. Their rock-hard scales gives them extraordinary defense. Boulder Dragons are very friendly and often help out lost hikers or travelers. But they can't fly very well.
Combat: Boulder Dragons can hurl large rocks at their foes from a distance, or curl up into a ball and roll over their foes at high speeds. At higher levels, they can also inflict status conditions like Burn or Sleep, and cause rocks to explode.
Starting Abilities: Camouflage- While in rocky, hilly, or mountainous terrain, the Boulder Dragon can make itself appear to be an inanimate object of some kind, like a rock, boulder, hill, etc. This makes the dragon practically undetectable.
Rolly Polly: The Boulder Dragon curls up into a ball and launches itself at a group of foes, rolling over them at high speeds to inflict damage.
Forest Dragon
Size: C
Power: D
Magic: D
Defense: E
Dexterity: C
Intelligence: C
Flight: D
Swim: D
Appearance: These large, slender cat-like dragons hide in dark forests and ambush prey. They are mischievous, playful, and cunning. Most Forest Dragons are dark green, brown, or black, though they tend to adopt the colors of their home forest to blend in, so snow white Forest Dragons and orange and brown Forest Dragons have also been spotted. These dragons have very long, whip-like tails that they use to strike foes from afar, and have excellent nightvision.
Combat: Forest Dragons prefer to be stealthy and silently ambush foes with their sharp, whip-like tails. If that fails, they confound their targets with lightning-quick movements and sharp claws. Forest Dragons like to make their homes in the treetops and leap down at prey. They are not very good fliers, however.
Starting Abilities: Stealth- This is a passive skill. This dragon excels at all stealth, and can camouflage itself when in its home forest.
Whip Blade: The Forest Dragon lashes out with its long, razor-sharp tail.
Spike-Tail Dragon
Size: D
Power: C
Magic: E
Defense: C
Dexterity: C
Intelligence: D
Flight: B
Swim: N/A
Appearance: These medium sized bird-like dark or golden brown dragons are covered in spikes and spikey scales, and have long wings and a long, curved tail with a triangle point at the tip. They have claws on their wings that they use to walk on, but actually only have two legs, which are their hind legs. These dragons are extremely fast fliers, and are adept at flying over long distances and agile maneuvering, however they cannot swim at all and tend to tire easily. Spike-Tail Dragons are mostly solitary creatures, but are very loyal. They only have one mate and they mate for life.
Combat: Spike-Tail Dragons prefer to fight from the air, hurling spikes at their foes with tremendous velocity. Their spikey scales always regrow, and regrow very quickly, which make them natural weapons. Spike-Tail Dragons can see in the dark very well, though not as well as Forest Dragons.
Starting Abilities: Dive Bomb- The Spike-Tail Dragon dives out of the sky at great speed, slamming into a foe with tremendous force.
Spike Toss: The Spike-Tail Dragon hurls several sharp spikes at a foe. This attack has a very long range.
Clans, Mates, and Lairs
Lairs
Probably one of the most important parts of the RP! Making friends, breeding, and raising more unique dragons! First, let's talk about Lairs. Lairs are special hideaways that dragons call home. They live there, raise their dragonlings there, store their treasure hoard there, and if the Lair is big enough, maybe even play host to an entire Clan of dragons! Lairs can be claimed in one of two ways: Either by finding an unclaimed Lair and claiming it for yourself, or by challenging the current owner to a fight! If you challenge a Lair's owner to a fight and win, both the Lair and a portion of their hoard becomes yours! However, no stealing dragon waifus or dragon babies. That's just wrong. When a defeated dragon leaves their lair, their family goes with them. However, any Clan-mates may disperse and go their separate ways if their loyalty isn't high enough, so be careful!
A Lair's territory includes the Lair itself and the immediate area around it. So a mountain lair might also include the forest below in its territory. Bigger Lairs have more territory. Whenever a dragon nears a potential Lair, claimed or unclaimed, the dragon will be able to sense the Lair's status and strength, which will be displayed as a bubble around the territory. A Blue Bubble means the Lair is currently unclaimed, while a Red Bubble means the Lair is claimed and the owner is home. A Yellow Bubble means the Lair is claimed, but the owner is currently away. However, Clan-mates or family may still be inside, so be careful! An enterprising young dragon might be able to steal a Lair right out from under the nose of another dragon.
Entering a Red Bubble is declaring a challenge to the owner, so be careful! The bubble will display the Level and type of the dragon(If the type is known), and the number of dragons present. A dragon that is defending their Lair from an invader gets a bonus to all their stats during the battle, so watch out! All dragons defend their Lair fiercely. Dragons don't do diplomacy when it comes to their homes and families, so if you enter a claimed territory, be ready for a fight! Your Main Dragon and up to 2 other dragons can participate in a Lair Invasion. Up to 6 dragons can participate in a Lair Defense, so the odds are always in the defender's favor. Choose your dragons wisely before invading a Lair!
A PC's Lair will be displayed in a special Golden Bubble. Golden Bubbles cannot be invaded by other PCs, but can be invaded by NPCs, though this is rare. A PC can only have one active Lair at a time. If you wish to claim a different Lair, you must give up your old one. DLC Lairs are exempt to this rule. A player can have both a DLC Lair and a normal Lair. And lastly, clearing a Lair will gain you a lot of EXP for all the dragons involved!
Befriending dragons, Mates and Breeding
Dragons can fall in love too! But dragons also tend to be much more practical about mating and breeding. Once you have a Lair of your own, you can start befriending and recruiting other dragons! Sometimes you will forge a bond with another dragon by completing a quest for them, other times you may defeat a dragon in battle and earn their respect. This is your main method of finding new dragons. Now, maybe you've taken a liking to a particular dragon and spent a lot of time with them. If you get close enough to a dragon of the opposite sex, you will be given the opportunity to mate with them. The results depend almost entirely on what types of dragons are mating. The dragon may lay only one egg, or several, and it may take only a few days or several weeks(In-game time obviously). Some skills or abilities may be passed down to the hatchlings from their parents, and the hatchlings will also have much higher stats than wild dragons, so breeding is the way to go if you want to create the strongest dragons around! Some types of dragons are only comfortable with one mate, while other types may be comfortable with having several.
Dragon Clans
Once you have a Lair and have befriended at least 5 other dragons, you can start your own Clan! A Dragon Clan is a group of dragons that live and cooperate together as a community. The Clan is lead by the Clan Leader, which is always your Main Dragon at first. However, once you've earned enough Loyalty and Respect points, you can choose to have your Main Dragon step down and appoint another dragon as the Clan Leader instead. Your Clan Leader gives passive bonuses to all the dragons in your clan, such as increased chance to find rare items or gold, or stronger attributes in battle, and more. These bonuses are unique to each dragon, not dragon type, and increase with the Clan Leader's level. The Clan Leader can give orders to dragons in their clan, telling them to do specific tasks. Some tasks may require higher Loyalty or Respect points. If you treat your dragons well, feed them, and give them their share of loot, their Loyalty and Respect for you will increase. With a high enough Loyalty rating, you can even mate with a dragon without needing your relationship to be max, or mate with dragons that otherwise can't be mated with!
Some Clan Orders include:
Scout for Items(Sends 1 or more dragons to scout for items, the more dragons the better the rewards)
Scout for Materials(Sends 1 or more dragons to scout for materials, the more dragons the better the rewards)
Scout for Locations(Sends 1 or more dragons exploring to scout for new areas, the more dragons the better the rewards)
Scout for Dragons(Sends 1 or more dragons to look for new recruits, the more dragons the higher the chances)
Scout for Treasure(Sends 1 or more dragons to search for treasure, the more dragons the better the rewards)
Scout for Nearby Lairs(Sends 1 or more dragons to scout for nearby Lairs, the more dragons the better)
Mate Two Dragons(Choose 2 dragons to breed, requires high Loyalty or Respect)
Scouting usually takes 1 day, but far off scouting may require more. Family members will also go on missions for you. But allied dragons who aren't family or clan-mates will not. They will still hang out around your lair and help you in battle, but will not listen to your orders or go on missions for you.
Levels, Loot, and other mechanics
EXP and levels
Winning battles, discovering new locations, completing quests or befriending dragons, going on scouting missions, among other stuff, all provide EXP. Once a dragon has enough EXP, they will level up and learn new abilities. Once a dragon reaches a certain level, they will grow up and mature, which will increase their stats. The highest a stat can go is S rank. Legendary Dragons, however, can go above this. When certain dragons grow up, they may undergo a dramatic transformation! This is called evolution. Appearance, stats, and abilities can change drastically.
The dragon maturity table looks like this.
Level 1- Hatchling
Level 4- Young Dragon
Level 8- Adult Dragon
Level 12- Mature Dragon
Level 16- Ancient Dragon
Level 20- Max Level
Loot
Loot is divided into several categories: Items, which are healing items, food, and other consumables, Materials, which are used for crafting and forging Decorations, armor, which can be equipped on dragons to give them bonuses in battle, and Treasure, which is gold and jewels and gems. All other loot is divided into the Special Items category.
So, to break it down...
Items: Consumable items, healing items, food
Materials: Used for crafting decorations and armor
Armor: Gives dragons special bonuses in battle
Treasure: Dragon Gold, precious gems, jewels, shiny things, etc
Special Items: DLC or unique items
Decorations are things you can make to fill out your Lair, which will give your Lair and Clan bonuses, and allow you to do things like Forge armor or make your own food. Also, something I forgot to mention. In order to get more dragons in your Clan, you need to expand your Lair. Expanding your Lair costs both Dragon Gold and Materials, which change depending on your Lair's type and location.
Other Mechanics
Stamina: Your stamina gradually decreases while flying or swimming. Resting or eating food restores your stamina. If your stamina runs out, you need to rest for a day before you can explore again.
Time: Most things like exploring or scouting takes time, usually around a day. This is known as your "Day Action". Once the day is over, you will go back to your Lair or Nest to rest. You can then choose to do a "Night Action", such as mating or spending time with another dragon to raise your relationship. Once all the players have used their Day and Night Actions, I will progress the world and move to the next day. When it's the "world's turn" to move, that's when stores will restock, dragon NPCs will move, dragons may invade you, or other things.
The current day and month will be displayed at the beginning of every day, along with any info relevant to that day.
Note that all players start out in a Nest, not a Lair. You can sleep and recover in a Nest, but cannot upgrade it or recruit any new dragons.
The Explorer's Guild
The famous Dragon Explorer's Guild is located in the mountains north of the desert. It is a very large structure built into the mountainside, and is always bustling with lots of dragons flying around, so it's very easy to find. All young hatchlings should make a point of going to the Guild as soon as possible.
Some of the functions of the Guild are explained below:
Toothless's Bazaar: Where you go to pick up DLC purchased at the Exchange.
Guild Master: Speak to the Guild Master for info on current events, or if you're ever confused about where to go in the main story. The Guild Master is also the one who will give you Main Story quests and advance the Main Story.
Famous Cartographer: You can speak to the Famous Cartographer to hear hints about the locations of Lairs. He will give 3 hints per day. Sometimes, he will hear about rare Lairs.
Arena Master: Speak to the Arena Master if you want to compete in Arena matches. You have to pay a small fee, but you earn that fee back if you win, and you get EXP and items for participating. Only one dragon(Per Player) can participate in the Arena at a time. Arena matches are made up of 3 battles, with each battle being harder than the last. You do not get to rest between fights, but you can use Healing Items between fights. Arena fights are against monsters, with the bosses being other dragons. Rumors say if you win enough matches in a row, you'll get challenged by "Special Opponents". Defeat these Special Opponents to earn special rewards.
This RP is designed to be my ideal dragon simulator. It's supposed to be fun, lighthearted, and more fun. There will be a main story with a big bad, but don't expect any particularly dark or gruesome elements. This RP is supposed to be like Fantasy Life for the 3DS, except with dragons!
