Chapter 1: A New Beginning
Yharon
You awaken to the sound of the Jungle coming alive. All manner of birds and animals sing and holler in a chaotic, but somehow soothing symphony. Rays of warm sunlight drift down from the Jungle canopy, filtering through the ruined ceiling and walls of the ancient temple that is your nest. You are still a very young Hatchling, only a few weeks old. Like all dragons who weren't part of a clan, your parents stayed with you after you hatched just long enough to teach you how to hunt and how to survive. Now the time has come for you to leave your nest behind and strike out on your own. You are a dragon, after all. But maybe a few more minutes of sleep first... Hmm? There appears to be some sort of new presence in the Jungle. It has thrown the symphony into disarray. You smell an alien, foreign scent nearby. It seems something foreign has invaded your territory. You do not think it is another dragon. What will you do?

You are rudely awoken by your neighbors, a family of playful moles, burrowing through the dirt and rock of the underground oasis you call home. They seem to be awfully hyper this morning. Maybe something exciting is happening on the surface, in the Desert above? Your eyes quickly adjust to the dim cavern, lit only by the traces of lava in a nearby lava tube, a remnant of the Desert's bygone volcanic age. The only other sound in the large cavern comes from the constant drip-drop of water falling off stalactites and splashing onto the stone floor, or into the underground lake. It has been a couple weeks now since your parents left you to fend for yourself. Perhaps it is time you left the cave behind and went out to see the world. You could start with investigating the commotion on the surface, at least.

You're up well before dawn, as usual, joyfully splashing and swimming through the vast network of rivers in central Dragonia, alongside all your River Dragon friends and nestmates. The waters of the River Apex are brimming with River Dragons, and you're well acquainted with most of them. Despite your parents leaving a few weeks ago, you've never been lonely. You have all your siblings and friends to play with! You swim for a long time, your wings and fins propelling you through the crystal clear water with graceful ease. You're so caught up in the joy of swimming you take a wrong turn and end up momentarily separated from your Pod! While you pop your head up above water to catch your bearings, you notice something startling nearby. A small group of humans are fishing in the river and laughing to themselves. They seem to be having a good time. But humans never come out to this part of the river! Not that you've seen, anyway. What will you do?

Great swaths of sunlight wander down through the branches of mighty Yggdrasil, flooding the Great Forest with morning light and causing the orange, red, and gold leaves of the forest to sparkle. Drops of morning dew fall lazily to the forest floor, where greedy lizards and other thirsty creatures wait. The various birds high in the canopy sing joyfully to welcome the new morning. As a mostly nocturnal dragon, you shift uncomfortably in your large, hidden nest of leaves and branches. Barely any sunlight reaches your nest, but the noise is enough to make your tail twitch in annoyance. How many times do you have to roar at them for those birds to be quiet while you're trying to sleep?! You're tempted to eat a few. You shift in your state of half-sleep, curling up into a ball and resting your head on your fluffy, comfortable tail. The small forest animals that had been using you as a bed quickly scatter. A young Leopard snuggles against you. The noise lessens and you heave a blissful sigh. Then, suddenly, your ears perk up. You detect a new scent. A foreign scent, something you've never smelled in the forest before. An intruder has entered your domain. What will you do?

Pooky, son of Pooky
The tallest mountain in all of Dragonia, Mount Apex. Dragons of all sizes, shapes, and types fly through the sky with gleeful abandon. Caves of all sizes dot the mountainside like little marks or crevices in the scales of a great beast. Your Pa, Pooky Senior, used to tell you stories that the mountain is actually a giant Boulder Dragon in a deep slumber. Sunlight streams in through the mouth of your cave. To the casual outsider, the cave is empty save for a very large, colorful rock sticking out in the back. Several small lizards decide that this rock would make for perfect shelter. The tiny little lizards waddle into the cave and climb up onto the unusual rock. Then the ground starts to shake and the rock comes alive! You come bursting out of the ground, sending a shower of pebbles, dirt, and lizards in all directions. Thankfully, the lizards are unharmed. Stubborn little things. You peer down at the lizards as they scramble out of your way. Then you curl up into a ball and roll out of the cave. Maybe you should go visit the Explorer's Guild today. Pa always told you stories about them too.

Ah, the lovely smell of sulfur and burning lava in the morning! You wake up to the usual smells and sounds of your volcano, ready to start the new day! You go for a bath in the lava. It feels really nice. Like the world's best hot springs. Then you curl up into a ball and go for a roll. Young dragons need their exercise, after all! It's only been a couple weeks since your parents left, but time doesn't matter as much to you. Time seems to flow slower for all Boulder Dragons. All around you, the other Boulder Dragons start to wake up. More and more rocks seem to come alive, curl up into balls, and go rolling off somewhere. Some roll alongside you. Eventually, your path takes you to the mouth of the volcanic caverns, and you stop and straighten yourself out. You look out over the Jungle spread out far below you, and the glittering waters of the wide blue ocean beyond it. The morning Sun is high in the sky, and it bathes the beautiful vista in a gorgeous array of colors. So many sights, smells, and sounds assault your senses. The other Boulder Dragons next to you spread their stubby but dependable wings and fly off towards the Jungle below. Maybe this time you should too.

The bright morning Sun crests the horizon, and the vast desert comes alive with activity. All manner of animals and wildlife scurry about their business below the High Plateau. You wake to an orchestra of inviting sounds. Other dragons are starting to wake too. In the distance you notice dragons flying around the mountains. You notice a few others around the desert too. You stand up and stretch your wings, looking out over the desert from your nest atop the plateau. The clear blue skies are especially vibrant and inviting today. But first, you should hunt for food. Food is good. As you look around, scouring the desert below with your hawk-like eyes for prey, you notice some sort of commotion in the distance, kicking up a large cloud of dust and sand. It looks like a stampede of Rhinoboars, huge creatures with very big tusks and one even larger horn, but still no problem for a dragon. It seems the Rhinoboars are chasing something. Maybe you should investigate? They're heading straight towards your plateau.
