Long ago, the four gods watched over this world, keeping everything in balance and in check. Ignis, Goddess of Fire and Spirit, Aquarius, God of Water and Ocean, Briar, God of Life and Earth, and Sanda, Goddess of Lightning and Sky. For many years, the people of this world lived happily with the blessings of the gods. However, one day, the gods suddenly went missing, sealed away by an unknown force. The world soon began to decay as their blessing no longer flowed through it. As things began to deteriorate, cities began to fall victim to bandits and monsters. People began to split up, looking for their own homes and ways of living. Focusing on their own way of survival. However, you are an adventurer looking to start a new life. There’s no time to be down about that stuff. Heading out, you find yourself on your way toward a new, growing village. It’s small, but it’s the perfect place to get paid for your adventuring services. As you work to grow this town and make some cash as an adventurer, perhaps you’ll discover the secret as to where the four gods went… Alright, let’s get into the rules. So this game uses stats and actual numbers. *cheering sound effect* I’ve actually put together a system that makes this work. So that’s cool. So let’s start with the basics. What exactly are you doing? Well, you’re an adventurer. You go out to fight monsters and gather materials and come back to town, earning money. You then use that money and materials to get food, equipment, and to upgrade the town. Food is going to be important in this game seeing as if you do not eat once a day, you will begin to suffer a stat penalty. Make sure you eat properly! This is especially important to keep in mind when you’re exploring long distances outside of the village. Alright, hunger and basic needs aside, let’s get to the next part of this game. The town. You will have to manage your materials and money carefully while in the town. Make sure you set aside something to eat and keep a nice store of it while also keeping enough materials and money to upgrade equipment and buildings. You can create new equipment by using materials you’ve gathered or taken from a defeated monster. To do this, simply head to the forge. The smith there will take whatever materials you give him and put them together to create a new weapon, armor, or accessory. You simply need to pay the basic fee for forging. As you continue to play, there will sometimes be merchants that sell new equipment and items, but for the most part, you will have to rely on your own gathering skills. You can also find good equipment as drops or in chests. Don’t forget about upgrading the town though. If you upgrade buildings or help build new buildings, you’ll have access to new facilities that can help you as an adventurer. Farms that produce food every day, ports that invite merchants and fisherman to the village, stables for raising monsters, all kinds of stuff. Now then, onto dungeons. Parties will be made up of no more than four characters. You will then head out into dungeons. You can fight enemies, find treasure, or find gathering points. But the main focus of the game is the multiple classes. You can unlock new classes by finding special items within dungeons at the end of them. When a player changes classes, their appearance and stats will change, but they’ll be able to keep any skills they already learned from other classes. Now let’s get to character creation! It’s fairly simple. Just fill out the sheet! Remember, the max characters you can have is two. Name: (This is your character’s name. Last name not required.) Age: (Not required, but useful) Race: (Anything goes as long as you can justify it, so have fun.) Description: (What does your character look like?) Backstory: (A little info on why your character chose to move to this little town. You can be as in depth as you want.) Starting Class: (Everyone starts as a Freelancer, but those starting later in the game can pick from any unlocked class.) Stats: (You get 50 points to spend, so use them wisely. You’ll also have to mark your three main stats. These stats will always increase by one point when you level up. You’ll also gain three bonus points to spend anywhere you like when you level up.) HP: (When these hit zero, your character is knocked out. If the entire party is knocked out, it’s game over and you have to restart the dungeon while losing all your inventory you brought with you.) Strength: (This determines your physical damage.) Defense: (This determines how much damage you mitigate when hit by a physical attack.) Magic: (This determines your magical damage.) Resistance: (This determines how much damage you mitigate when hit by a magical attack.) Speed: (This determines turn order and how likely you are to evade attacks.) Dexterity: (This determines how likely you are to land a hit and how likely you are to land a critical hit.) Luck: (This determines your resistance to status ailments and your likeliness to inflict them. Some classes also use this for their skills instead of other stats.) The last stat is SP, which you cannot decide the number for. Everyone starts at 100 SP and gains 10 SP with each level up. SP is expended to use skills, so use it wisely. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Some things will probably be better explained/make more sense when you start playing the game.

Do stats start at 1 or at Zero?
Do we start with more HP or most of our 50 points has to go in them?

All stats start at 0. You do not start with anything in HP. So distribute your points carefully. You, of course, can't sign up a character with 0 HP though. You can sign up with 1 HP, but then you'd probably die a lot. I don't remember if I mentioned it, but character limit is two in this game.

Quick question, if someone wanted to make a healer what stat would affect healing moves? I've got a character in mind (a priestess skilled in healing magic, but who has taken a vow of nonviolence and thus can't use any sort of attack instead relying on status conditions like paralysis or sleep if she's stuck on her own and needs to defend herself), but I don't know what to do with my stats.

The Bishop/Cleric class uses Luck for it's skills and most skills that inflict status ailments use Luck as well, so I'd say it's a safe bet for you to focus on that stat. Although, you won't get access to that class until you clear the dungeon containing it. The first healing class you gain access to is the typical magical healer, so maybe invest a little bit into magic so you can start the game with less difficulty and then upgrade to the Cleric once you receive it. Also, you can change classes at any time while you are inside the village without penalty, so don't worry about switching them around. I am going to mention that the tutorial starts everyone as Freelancers before they unlock a few more classes to choose from though, so it might be a little tough without attacking. But it should be fairly easy. It's only a tutorial.

Do Freelancers have some sort of simplistic healing move or start with some items? If so I could have her basically just healbot for the other party members there, and if not she could join slightly late after the tutorial is done and Healer has been unlocked.

I'll probably give you Healing Herbs at the beginning or something like that since you can't do anything otherwise.

One last question, do these stats have a strong effect on things other than abilities? If a character has low dexterity for instance (which along with strength aren't really stats that I need) does that mean the character is clumsy or just that they have a low hit rate and crit chance?

Stats are just going to affect battles, not the character. Deciding to have them reflect how the character acts outside of battle is up to the player.
However, there are certain events/quests that will ask for a character with a specific stat total to clear them. For example, if a farmer puts up a quest asking for someone to help with his crops there might be a certain amount of strength needed. That type of thing.

Ah, then in that case since nothing she would need to land on an enemy uses Dexterity I think I'll use that as a dump stat as well. I might leave her a point or two (as opposed to strength being 0 because the kinds of quests that would need strength wouldn't be something that someone who grew up in a temple dedicating their life to worship would be good at anyways), but that gives more points to put in other stats.

Name: Heather Age: 18 Race: Human, Female Description: "Maiden" is probably the word that describes Heather the most. With shoulder length blond hair and light green eyes she has a pretty yet rather plain appearance, the latter of which is further emphasized by her attire consisting of a plain long sleeve white dress extending from her neck all the way down to her ankles and wooden sandals. Backstory: Heather has lived in a temple since she was taken in as an infant, dedicating her life to worshipping the four gods. In light of their imprisonment, she has been sent to a small town with a Wooden Staff and a few books of holy scriptures for two reasons: to establish a temple so that the people will not lose their faith, and to try to find a way to bring the four gods back. While she may be shy and quiet, Heather has a strong drive to help those she thinks need assistance whether they want her to or not, and even her vow of nonviolence preventing her from fighting won't stop her from traveling into the most dangerous of dungeons to keep her fellow adventurers safe. HP: 10 SP: 100 Strength: 0 Defense: 5 Magic: 6 Resistance: 7 (Main) Speed: 6 (Main) Dexterity: 1 Luck: 15 (Main) Vow of Nonviolence: Heather is forbidden from knowingly and directly inflicting harm on others, ranging from other sentient species all the way to monsters and animals. This includes physical damage, magical damage, damage over time, and basically anything else you can think of that reduces a target's HP. Note that this does not include inflicting nondamaging status conditions such as paralysis or sleep, nor does it mean that she can't allow other to deal damage (although it won't stop her from proposing a peaceful alternative if she can think of one), and in addition she may use healing moves to damage the undead as easing their journey into the afterlife is considered an act of mercy. (Tl;dr: she can only damage undead enemies, and only with healing moves.) How's this look?

(I'll start with only one character... You'll recognize her...) Name: Kali Maeva Age: 17 Race: Fairy Description: Long green hair decorated with a poppy. Wears a brown leather vest with holes on her back to let out her four emerald colored butterfly wings. She also wears a brown tricorn on her head. Her eyes are dark green. She wears a skirt. She has flower bracelets around her wrists and a crown of flowers around her forehead. There's hay in her boots. Backstory: Just adapt the following to this new world: ---Kali's father---
Maeva's father was the fairy king. During a business travel with his wife to the Earth Nation, he had an affair with a Verian merchant. He went back to the Plant nation afterwards and never got caught.
---Kali's Mother---
A few months later, the Verian merchant, which had kangaroo traits, found out she was pregnant. She eventually gave birth to Kali and instantly loved her. By fear of losing her daughter, the merchant never contacted Kali's father. She raised Kali alone.
---Kali's Youth---
Growing up, it was clear that Kali was a Fairy. She got no Verian traits at all... Physically at least. It was quickly clear that Kali had an affinity with animals, being able to befriend them easily (Even without being a Beast Linker). Fairies being rare, Kali never met one, which led her to believe that her butterfly wings are her Verian traits. Her mother, of fear of having her child leave her alone played along and never told Kali she was a fairy.
---Hiloka---
One day, a man passed by the Earth Nation trying to sell animals as slaves. This didn't go well for him amongst a Verian community. Kali participated in the animals' rescue, developing a spiritual link with a boar named Hiloka, making her a Beast Linker at the age of 7.
---Today---
Kali is now 17 years old and still haven't met any fairies. She starts having doubts about being a Verian though. Other: Name: Hiloka Species: Boar Appearance: A male boar decorated with a lot of flowers, which actually seems to annoy him. He has four defenses with red symbols on them. A clueless Kali gave him a wooden backpack to transport stuffs. Hiloka refuses to put on a saddle. Note: Hiloka will be an "eyecandy character" following Kali, never fighting, unless Kali eventually gets a class where she can use him in combat. Starting Class: Freelancer Stats: (You get 50 points to spend, so use them wisely. You’ll also have to mark your three main stats. These stats will always increase by one point when you level up. You’ll also gain three bonus points to spend anywhere you like when you level up.) HP: 15 Strength: 1 Defense: 2 Magic: 7 Resistance: 7 (Main) Speed: 7 (Main) Dexterity: 7 (Main) Luck: 4 SP: 100

Looks good to me. Your sign up is accepted. You have one more if you want to use it now or save it for later on. I expect players to keep track of their inventories and such, but if you need me to, I can.
