Looting a Dungeon: Dungeons will sometimes appear amongst quests. A dungeon will always be found if you send your scout to investigate a single Quest Ruiner. Dungeons count as a quest, but are more difficult, because they can't be abandoned while in progress. Be sure to be prepared before tackling one.
Travelling: Your scout isn't stupid. He knows how dangerous dungeons are. Therefore, is he finds a dungeon, it means the path to it is clear and nothing will happen on your way there.
Rewards: Completing a dungeon offers no reward by itself, but chests are scattered amongst them. Each dungeon has at least 3 chests. Completing a dungeons rewards you with whatever you collected inside it.
Leaving a dungeon: When a dungeon is entered, a malevolent force will prevent you from leaving. To complete the dungeon, you need to find this force known as a boss and defeat it.
Checkpoints: Dungeons only have checkpoints when switching floors, before the mini-boss, after the mini-boss and before the boss. These are the only moments where you can use the rotation mechanics in a dungeon.
Completing dungeons: Once you completed 3 dungeons owned by the same Quest Ruiner, you will get his attention. This means that there's a chance you get a quest to fight this Quest Ruiner and get a chance to meet it in one of it's dungeon. Once a Quest Ruiner has been defeated during a quest and inside one of his dungeon, you unlock a final battle against it.
