Now's probably a good time to use that Healing Herb on Mercedes.

Heather uses Healing Herb on Mercedes, restoring 10 health. Kali attacks Slime for 1 damage with her staff. Mercedes then hits the same Slime with her staff, dealing 1 damage. Ralliado attacks a different Slime, dealing 5 damage and defeating it. One of the Slimes casts Bubble Burst! It launches a bunch of bubbles at Kali, dealing 1 damage. The remaining Slime casts Bubble Burst on Mercedes, dealing 1 damage.

Amanda

Amanda runs in and slashes at one of the Saplings, dealing 10 damage and defeating it. Talys then hops over to another one and flips backward, slashing it with his knife before he lands back in position next to Amanda. The Sapling receives 8 damage and is defeated. The other Sapling then uses Poison Vine on Amanda, dealing 1 damage. The last Sapling uses Poison Vine on Talys, dealing 1 damage. Luckily, neither of them got poisoned.

Mercedes Attack a Slime

Since I'm out of Healing Herbs defending is my only option anyways, so do that.

Heather takes a defensive stance. Kali attacks the Slime with her staff for 1 damage. Mercedes attacks the injured Slime, dealing 1 damage as well. Ralliado then attacks the full health Slime for 5 damage, defeating it. The Slime then attacks Ralliado for 1 damage. Kali finishes off the last Slime with a smack from her staff.

The party then continues onward. It isn't long before they come across what looks to be the shrine they were searching for!



Taking a quick look around, it feels almost strange. This shrine must have been abandoned for many years. A statue of Briar, the God of the Earth stands at the center, holding one hand out from which water pours into a basin. It's said that the water from this fountain comes directly from the god himself. It's difficult to tell if the statue is an accurate depiction of Briar as nobody has ever actually seen the gods before. He stands towering over the party with a solemn face. His hair is short and he has an impressive beard on his face. He wears what looks like elegant robes with intricate and almost royal designs. Various decorative strands flow from him in the wind, attached to his robe. At his feet, he wears nothing. Spiked thorn vines can be seen growing all over the right side of his body, however, the left hand reaches out and is the one that pours forth the water of life to you.

The tall trees stand silently on all sides, watching to see what will happen next as the party approaches. As they do so, however, Heather notices something sad about this place. It feels as if the holiness that was once here is now gone. Or corrupted. What does this mean of the gods...?

"Ah...You feel it too, don't you?" The party turns to someone walking out from behind a tree. His butterfly-like wings give off a slight glow, however, he wears an ominous and shadowy mask along with dark armor. His long, brown hair waves behind him as he walks toward the party. The mask he wears covers only the area around his eyes, yet emits some odd shadow-like mist from beneath. "The gods have left this place. This shrine is but a mere shadow of its former self. A simple ground for monsters to fight over for territory..." As he speaks, he's suddenly interrupted by the sound of loud footsteps shaking the earth, coming from another direction.



A Treant comes through the trees, knocking them aside. The Treants are supposed to be Briar's guardians. But this one isn't right. Its eyes glow red and its body has twisted, black vines growing around it. The mysterious fairy takes out his blade as it lets off a faint, white glow. "It seems even Briar's guardians are affected by this. Be on guard. We'll have to slay it ourselves if we want to live!"
