Outside of the forest, or just wandering for training? If you want to level up, the Pokémon here are pretty weak.

The two Pidgey are assaulted by an onslaught of attacks! Without anywhere to run or hide, they're quickly taken down and Vereor levels up! The familiar flash of light appears as the number on her badge changes from 5 to 6! The feeling of leveling up is unusual and is something to get used to. It's like you got a sudden boost in strength. The team is satisfied with their victory, but a scene that seems nearly identical to something that happened earlier occurs. The sound of yelling from the sky and...CRASH! A Piplup lands into a nearby tree! My goodness, it is just raining Pokemon now, isn't it? The Piplup seems surprisingly unharmed for falling from the sky. It comes tumbling down from the tree and finds itself next to the exploration team.
(Good thing you have a ton of badges in your bag. I honestly thought we'd have less players!)
