Yeah, given the meta knowledge of where they're actually going I wasn't exactly expecting Dewey to find anything. I just don't really have any ideas at the moment on how to spend his afternoon. Odds are that after first going to the other world I'm going to try to have Dewey get more rank ups since he'll want to get to know Fox and Katie better to learn more about the other world, but that doesn't really help me out now since as far as he knows they're just going on a normal hiking trip. I dunno, I guess I'll read the book they got him or something.

Right, my bad. As for what I meant by "meta knowledge", between being given what's clearly a Soul Key and going at night which is the specific time of day that everything involving the Other World back in the original Dating Sim I'm pretty sure I know that they're not just going hiking somewhere near the mall. Dewey, on the other hand, has no idea. Therefore while there's no reason for Dewey to think that looking up the area around he mall is pointless I knew ahead of time that he probably wasn't going to find anything. The reason I had him look it up was purely to kill time (and possibly get a point in knowledge or something).
Head to the mall.

I mean it's very possible that's not what's going to happen, but like I said there's some decent reasons to suspect it. Why else would the people who already knew about the Other World prior to the start of the original game want me to bring a mysterious glowing key with me on our hike late at night where they don't want to tell me where we're going ahead of time?
