You arrive at the beach. You find that 4 members of your school you vaguely know of but haven't ever actually met are having a volleyball match on the beach. Two guys - one with dark hair and another with long, white hair - are on opposite teams. But they seem to be along for the ride. Really, it's the two blonde girls going at each other. And they are going at each other hard.

You observe the volleyball game. Neither side seems to be able to take an advantage. You need at least a two point lead to win, and every time one team pulls ahead by one, the other scores.
Judging by the fact the scoreboard has been entirely abandoned at 40-40, this must've been going on for quite some time.

The older blonde in a bikini is clearly the best player here. But her black-haired partner seems a bit out of his element and keeps screwing up. She didn't berate him, though.
The younger blonde (wearing a onepiece) and her white-haired partner are both competent and much more in sync, but Bikini's still keeping them from taking the win.

You get closer to the volleyball game. They're all too focused on the match to even notice. Onepiece and Whitehair set up a bump, into a set... Onepiece jumps into the air and smashes it with a ferocious battlecry. "EAT THIS! KILLING BLOW, SPIKE-"
Pain.
The next thing Karl knows, he's staring up at the sky. The other four are standing over him. The girls with concerned expressions, one of the guys with a bored look, and the other looking like he's trying not to laugh.
"Are you OK!?" Onepiece blurts out as soon as you open your eyes.
Other than a volleyball-sized pain in your head and the fact you're Karl, yes.

You continue watching. Due to your absolute lack of Guts, you end up shrieking and falling down the next time Onepiece leaps up to spike. It distracts Bikini's team enough that the completely miss the block.
You continue to flinch every time she jumps up.
After several hours, the decide to call it a draw.
You feel a bit braver, having stared death in the face. Death in the form of a white leather ball.
Karl gained a Guts.
