You proceed through the labyrinth. Kiran makes sure Dewey makes a simple map to help keep you on track as you head towards the presumed center of the mall.
It looks like your gambit paid off. You arrive at a large, circular arena. There's... dozens of petrified statues here. Dozens. Maybe a hundred or more. All sorts of people. Young, old, man, woman. Even a dog. As you scan around, you manage to find Fox, Katie, and Somnis.
Kiran runs over quickly. "Somnis! Somnis, I'm here! I... But I don't know what to do..." He looks crestfallen.
You feel like something's nearby, but... Looking around, you don't see any obvious threats.
Leia, Vincent
"Well, I guess this our chance to run past..." the guy says. His partner gives him a look. Even through her mask, it's a withering glare. "...Kidding."
"It's Vitcorp's fault we're in this situation, but I think we can give these two the benefit of a doubt," the girl says.
The minotaur reaches down, grabs Leia by the arm, and effortlessly chucks her into the others. The guy and girl help Vincent catch her, then get into position to fight.
"Hey, you two! There's not time to explain right now - for now, just know there's no way we can actually beat this thing!" the girl says.
"Just hit it hard enough and we can force it to back off!"
Levi
Levi examines his tail. It's very smooth and scaly. He manages to figure out how to get it wagging by flexing the muscles in his lower back. While he's practicing this, he keeps trying to look behind himself to see what his tail is doing. It looks like he's chasing his tail.
"Heh." Tom turns away and pretends he wasn't chuckling at Levi.
It's clear that Alice is torn. On the one hand, scaly, snaky-tail. On the other hand, cu-u-u-u-ute...

"Leia, are you alright?" Vincent asks, his voice wavering ever so slightly.
Vincent blasts a few sound waves off, directing them at the beasts legs.

Morgan while waiting to hear from the others.
Morgan takes sometimes to practice with her tail. She starts wagging it as hard as she can. Then she takes her ears and starts petting them. They are very soft and floofy.
Levi chan why is your tail so long and my tail is all poofy and short?

"I don't like this. They didn't all end up here on their own. Stay alert, whatever did this could still be around."
Tai looks around carefully, observing the different statues and the room, looking for signs of movement or any clues.

It doesn't take long for the threat to reveal itself. A large snake comes slithering between the statues. As it rears up, it reveals the body of a woman tucked on its underbelly. She's dressed in a silk dress. Her hair is... smaller, wriggling snakes... Her eyes glow bright yellow as she flicks a forked tongue in your direction.
That's one mystery solved. But now you're all in extreme danger... Maybe beating her will fix this? Or... maybe not. But you don't have much choice. If you don't defend yourselves, you're going to be just like everyone else here!

Alice carefully leads the way as you get closer to the source of the crying.
"Um... Are you the Guardian of this area? We want to talk to you..." Levi asks softly.
The crying abruptly stops. "...way..." a voice whispers from inside.
"What?" Alice says. "Um... If you are the Guardian, we're here to ask for you help. Please. Our friends..."

"GO AWAY!" A massive snake bursts through the door. It's as wide around as a tree, and stretches several feet out of the door, with enough of its body still inside to disappear into the darkness. Her snake body gives way to a human torso and head. It looks like a young woman dressed in a tube top. She's got long, deep-blue hair and a silver circlet on her head. She's clutching a pulsating blue spear. "I sssssaid GO AWAY!"
"She's attacking...!" Alice calls out.
"Get ready!" Tom says. "Just... hit her enough to calm her down, don't kill her!"

Analyze. I'm not sure I've got anything she's weak to (if I had to guess I'd say ice along with the standard Celestial weakness shared with most enemies here), but it's worth a shot figuring out. If nothing else maybe Tai has something she's weak to I can tell him about.
"You're the one who did this, aren't you? Tell me one thing. Why?"
Try to avoid looking her in the eyes.

Your analysis of the statues doesn't really reveal anything useful. It says a bit about some random people, but nothing about the whole statue thing.

"But why do you want us to stay away?". "If your crying it's only natural to help if you hear someone crying?". "Please my friends are in danger and you seem hurt please let us help?" Morgan says to the Lamia.
"Plus it doesn't hurt that she's kinda of cute," Morgan thinks.
For now use Shadow Sneak.

Okay, so this seems like the Greek legend Medusa... or something similar. Best avoid eye-contact either way...

Tai does his best to keep his gaze averted. He decides to test the waters with a Bloody Blasters. Strike fast, strike hard is always a good strategy.
He does his best to avoid hitting any, uh, bystanders wuth his shots, though.

Karl ducks down, facing away from the gorgon, and pulls his knees up to his chest. He throws a pop-tart in the general direction of the scary snake girl.

Tai, Dewey
Dewey flips through his book, looking for an entry about this thing. Once again, the tome flips itself to a blank page and starts filling in.
Gorgon.
Element: Soul.
Threat Level: B+.
Special Note: Petrification skill.
Weakness: Unknown.
Resistance: Soul, Earth, Plant, Dark, Electricity.
More information will be available in the Bestiary after combat analysis.
"What's this 'weakness unknown' crap?" Kiran asks. "Damn. Guess it doesn't know everything."
Tai avoids looking directly at the creature and fires a few shots while also trying to avoid the statues. He misses.
Kiran doesn't seem to do anything. He has a grin on his face like he's plotting something.
The gorgon hisses and whips its tail. It knocks several statues over in order to slap everyone at once.
Kiran seems to shrug it off, while Tai toughs it out. Dewey gets knocked back considerably. He's not in danger, but it definitely hurt...
Leia, Vincent
Vincent fires some sound waves at the creature's legs. It stumbles, then growls and charges forward. Leia retreats while firing pants at its legs. They practically bounce off. The monster doesn't even seem to notice. It charges through the group, bowling Vincent and Light over. Mooney points at Vincent and a ghost appears on his shoulder. It releases a pulse of light and he feels a bit better. The guy leaps up and clonks the monster in the face with his shovel.
