Warriors... Celebrities... Martial Arts Legends... All of these and more can be found at the Glitz Pit, as it makes its way from world to world. The battles waged there are well known to some, but for others, a special treat awaits. For in this hallowed hall of combat, you never know who you'll see next, or where their journey will take them from show to show.
Guys, this is something I've been wanting to pitch for a really long time. Basically, the concept is on some level a return to form for me. I have heard the feedback – you guys want individual control of your characters, and I can't say I blame you! That's why I've cooked up a way to give each one of you that full, classic adventure style control of your characters while also being able to give each of you the quality that you so richly deserve! How, you ask? Well, it's quite simple – not every character will be featured in every match! Yes, this is a sort of a gladiatorial situation, based on the Glitz Pit from Paper Mario. However, this one is not run by Jolene. It's run by the evil Mr. Vince McMahon, rich corporate businessman extraordinaire and general corrupt shithead. Thing is, though, he's not always around – usually he delegates. That's why I have a few contracts – they're for different roles to be played, some of which involve more substantial time engagements, and some of which involve less.
The first kind of contract available is for a Superstar. These are the bread and butter of the Glitz Pit – every show that they host is composed of a variety of matchups between some combination of these glorious battlers. Mostly they're composed of skillful martial artists, wicked brutes, powerful wrestlers, and strange freaks, but there are all kinds of fighters around. However, this isn't the Roman Colosseum – this is no home for people who mostly fight with weapons. While there may be certain matches in which they are available, this is generally the kind of place to test your skills, any powers you may have, and especially your body. However, it's also about pleasing the crowd – whether the fights are 1 on 1, tag team style, or something more exotic, the crowd must always be paid attention to, and they are tough to satisfy! Effective, but boring styles of combat will put them to sleep, leading to smaller paychecks for you at the end of each show! Your character may not always be wrestling, but they can always be watching, and waiting for opportunities.
The second kind of contract available is for a commentator. These should be characters or people with the gift of gab, who have the ability to talk up even individuals they're unfamiliar with. They wouldn't necessarily be commentating on every match, but they should be ready and willing to do so at least once per show. Players can of course pick which matches they'd like to speak on, and players who enjoy dialogue but aren't necessarily into prose writing can have fun with this!
The third kind would be for a General Manager – these are non-fighting characters (mostly, it's okay if they can step in and fight but generally they're not competing) who have been delegated the authority to run shows by Vince McMahon. They help form stories that can build over the course of multiple matches or shows, and can assist in figuring out what kind of matchups would lead to interesting gameplay!
The fights will be very fun – as usual, you'll have control of your characters, with fights ranging from a single post's worth of decisionmaking to more abstract choices. Players can also volunteer for backstage segments, in which they have even more freedom to shape the course of their personal stories. Overall, these individual matches should build up into bigger and better things, as your characters should all have their own goals, and so will the NPC superstars!
If anyone's interested, and I would hope that is the case, let me know and I will provide the signup sheet. Fill it out and hand it in, and we'll most likely be in business. The cool thing about this format is that since not everyone is active at once, you can sign multiple contracts, even for the same position. And no, obviously these contracts are just for fun, if you can't participate for whatever reason just let me know and we'll work around it, no problem. I'm not trying to be controlling and get people to sign their souls away or anything.
tl;dr gladiator style fights in a show-by-show continuity, similar to a fight card like UFC but with bold characters, simple individual arcs for each player, and more.
