You walk to the area with the lone tree. Mox look at you, he'll probably follow you when he's done messing aroun with the plants. As you make your way to the tree, you see some bokoblins running away.
The leaves of the tree start to shake violently... You can feel something glaring at you... A weird cyclop creature reveals itself, hanging from a branch, using what you assume is supposed to be it's tail. The creature uncurls three more appendages and the eye starts to rotate, making a disgusting and terrifying sound. The eye turns from blue to red and the creature finally glares at both of you.
GOHMA
The creature is hanging on the branch. It's pupil turns towards Donald, then Cid, then Donald again.
(Tutorial: Because of cutscenes, the first time you meet a monster, you cannot get the first strike on them.)

It's probably prepping a laser or something, step back out of melee range in case I'm wrong and use Attune Blade since I'm pretty sure any kind of optic blast wouldn't be considered physical.

Donald looks around to find a cover, but it seems this isn't his favorite place, because the only thing available is the tree the creature is in. He runs behind the tree, as Cid raises his sword in the air. Gohma shoots 3 non-elemental beams, which seem to be redirected towards the sword and absorbed. Donald takes cover behind the tree and shoots the creature's underside.
Gohma starts spinning around the branch, faster and faster.

Shoot the guy again. and right when it lets go of the branch, do a dodge Roll Move

Use the absorbed energy to cast Blizzaga, attacking with a barrage of large icicles in an attempt to both damage Gohma and possibly throw it off balance while it's spinning. For my second spell, use Thundara since a bolt of lightning should hopefully get Mox' attention, and prepare to try to dodge or block if the Blizzaga didn't interrupt its attack.

Donald shoots the creature, while Cid sends a barrage of ice attacks at it. A noticeable purple effect occurs when the ice hits. You wonder what it means...
Cid also shoots a thunder spell. This third attack makes the creature fall on it's back.
Gohma is struggling to get up.

Donald jumps on the enemy's eyes and shoots at it, then jumps off, letting place for Cid to lunge his sword into the creature's eye. Gohma gets up, as Mox arrives.
Mox: "Sorry, had to warm up... Glad to see you guys are not already dead."
Mox unsheates his daggers and gets ready to fight.
Gohma's pupil turns towards Cid, but only once this time...

I'm assuming it's either charging a large laser or multiple smaller ones. I'll take a chance on it being a large one and use Attune Blade, the appeal of getting to use an especially powerful spell like Flare as a reward for absorbing it if it's one attack outweighs the risk of being hit by the remaining lasers after only absorbing one if it's multiple.

Cid raises his swords again, while Donald shoots the enemy. Mox runs behind the foe, as it shoots a laser, which Cid absorbs again. Before Cid can retaliate with a spell though, Gohma is right in his face and smashes him with two arms, then whips it's tail for a second hit. Cid is launched into the tree and took massive damage. It's almost as if the boss adapted to the last attack...
Gohma is putting it's tail on the ground, as it starts pulsating. It's body is flashing frantically. Mox takes the opportunity for a free combo.
