The shadow chucks the potion.
The chest opens its mouth to catch the potion, then snaps shut. You hear a scream and a loud explosion inside the chest.
"...Huh."
"AH! What did you do!?" the big shadow yells.
The smaller shadow shrugs.
The chest seems dormant.
The shop keeper walks over and slaps a 'do not open' sign on the chest.

You leave the static-y shopkeeper and the other two shadows to... whatever they're going to do next.
You head towards the patriarch's hut. Then you realize you're not sure which one belongs to the patriarch and which one belongs to the matriarch.
Before you can ask, an alarm starts ringing. Several of the warrior-looking arachaens go scrambling towards the wall at the end of the village. Cinnabre joins them. Most of the others go inside houses and lock the doors.

You head over to the defensive line.
Some of the spider-people take up spears and assemble just behind the barrier. Others grab rifles and stagger behind and between them. All of them aim down into the darkness. One lights a torch and chucks it far down the dark tunnel.
The floor itself seems to be moving towards you like a wave.
Rats.
Dozens of them. All as large as dogs. Swarming towards you.

Malefio switches to Twilight Princess. He equips Ball'N'Chain and Bow for this fight (TP is only 2 items right?). He'll try to find a vantage point and shoot bomb arrows at the rats. Of course, he always has the master sword if he has to use it. Paprika will spit lava at the rats, from another vantage point.
M: "Lagos? I can handle my own if they reach me, could you protect Paprika, please?"

You try to climb onto a vantage point to fire at the rats, but find yourself unable to jump and climb freely. Fortunately you don't really need to. There's plenty of room in the firing line. You fire some bomb arrows at the rats. It blows several of them away. Paprika spits some lava bubbles. It kills a few rats before the rest start running around the puddles... or right over the melting corpses.
Cinnabre fires some heavy steel balls from his halberd. They take out lines of rats at once. The Aracheans open fire, as well. Almost 80% of the rat swarm gets obliterated while they're still charging, then they reach the barrier. The spear-wielding spiders set up a line and start fending them off. The line is holding for the most part, but a few are getting overwhelmed.
Lagos stands in front of Paprika and waits.

Paprika continues doing what she's doing.
Malefio will try to get behind the enemies and swing the Ball'N'Chain around, while advancing towards the enemy. They'll either run into the Ball'N'Chain or into the spears in order to avoid it.

You start a-swingin' the ball and chain and wading into the rats. You can only get one half of the ball's orbit low enough to hit the little buggers. The rats in front of you get bowled over, but rats attacking from the other side hit you in the back. They deal some damage, but not enough to take you down. The spiders start to whittle down the rats' numbers.
Paprika continues to stay in the rear line and spit lava globs. None of the rats get past the spiders' defensive line.

Try to get an angle where many rats are lined up and send the ball'n'chain flying.
Paprika continues doing her thing. It works.

You chuck the ball at the rats. You kill so many. But while you're reeling it in, other rats swarm at you and bite and scratch the crap out of you.
The remaining rats go skittering back into the darkness. The spiders shoot at them as they retreat.
After they're all gone, the troops cheer, then start going back to what they were doing.
