"Heheh! Welcome to the guild, rookie! Your membership fee's all in order. So, then! You're really doing this? Right then. Time for your crash course in management!"
You've finally saved up enough money, and now you're one of the newest members of the merchant guild! They're going to help you get set up and start your own store. Monster attacks have been on the rise lately, and keeping supply lines open is absolutely vital. You'll be given a small shop to start with, along with some starting goods.
Buying Stock
You order stock from other towns! Well, you can buy them from the town you're in, but good luck turning a profit. Importing goods has two costs. The cost of the goods themselves, and the cost of hiring a caravan to bring them in. You'll also be able to hire mercenaries to defend your caravan if you're buying a bunch of big ticket items. Don't worry too much early on. Bandits and monsters won't bother with the cheap crap a rookie merchant will be hocking. Plus, the guild will cover the cost of your first caravan!
Prices of both will fluctuate over time! Keep track of who's selling what and the prices in the Price List.
Setting Prices
Choose how much you want to sell everything you bought! Obviously you want to sell everything at a profit. But set your prices too high and don't expect to get much traffic.
Selling Stock
Once your stock's purchased, you need to sell it! Different types of customers will stop by. Expect different types of customers with different behaviors in different towns. Small towns will have a lots of farmers and rookie adventurers. Larger towns will have plenty of townsfolk and tradesmen. Some people may try to negotiate for lower prices.Tell them to go fuck themselves. Try to get as much out of them as you can!
Other Activities
New options will become available over time!
Changing World
How you play the game will affect the world around you! If you sell a ton of raw iron, expect your town to start selling more iron tools for others to import! If you sell a bunch of high-quality weapons to adventurers, expect them to be more successful against local monsters. If the local monster level is lower, prices will drop... Good if you want to buy from somewhere, bad if you want to sell. But if monster levels are high, caravans are more likely to be attacked. Decisions, decisions...
The best merchants don't just think about immediate profits. You need to think ahead!
"Ya got all that, Rook? Great! You'll get a pamphlet with all this info to review at any time. Now, fill out this form, pick yer starting inventory, and then we'll get you sorted and on your way to your new job!"
