For those of you that have not tried out this CYOA yet, please remember that you may only choose one of the Summoners stories to follow. If you do not wish to interact in the Summoners of Light story and prefer Summoners of Darkness, do not read any further. If you wish to participate in Summoners of Light, please post in the corresponding discussion topic.
Prologue: A Light Reborn
Deep within the quiet forest, an unknown figure lies unconscious in the shade of the many trees. The peaceful wind softly blows through the leaves as they make small sounds. The small rays of light make their way through the treetops. A shift is felt in the forest as the figure begins to stir. They slowly get up to their feet under the tree and look around the empty forest. They feel almost completely alone. The figure wanders through the forest and slowly makes their way around. The wet grass brushes against them as they walk and they walk towards a strange light in the forest. The figure soon approaches the light and finds that it is coming from a doorway. They seem to contemplate what to do for a moment.
As they think, a voice echoes around them. "You are awake." The figure is startled as they hear the voice, but courageously confronts it.
"Who are you? What is it that you want?" They seem rather confused.
The voice returns again at a volume as if the person was standing right there. "Do not worry. I am not here to hurt you. I am here to guide you. You have lost your memory. An unfortunate turn of events had transported you to this world after it took your memory. You were knocked out for a long time and you have awoken at the time when you're needed most. For you are meant to be a guardian of light in this time of darkness."
"Wait a minute." The figure was skeptical of this unknown voice. "You're telling me that I'm some kind of ultimate hero to fight darkness?"
"Yes, I can understand that it may be hard to believe. It is true though. You might regain your memories if you step through the door though. Being closer to your home world could help restore what was once lost..."
"My home world? My home is in danger? I...I don't know. I guess there isn't much else I can do though..." The figure begins to walk through the door as the light shining through reveals them...
Character Creation The main character of this story will be determined by you. You get to create your own character for this story by coming up with their appearance, name, and abilities. Once you've all either chosen a player's character or collaborated to create one together, you can then start.
Options This CYOA will often end with a series of options for an action to take. At some times there will be an option to create your own custom choice and at other times you may be able to move about freely.
A. Continue on through the door and discover what's beyond B. Chicken out and run last second

Same, while B is amusing A seems like the safer choice, unless it's one of those actually you're supposed to reject this power and come up with a new power within yourself to break the cycle kinda story.mButnI'll bet on A for now.

As the figure walks into the light, it is truly revealed. A beautiful woman walks into the light of the doorway, closing, with the last thing seen of her being her shiny, silver hair.
As the woman walks through the light, she begins to remember more of herself. "...My name is Dana. I remember. I have the power to summon animals and even transform into them. I am here to be the light in a dark time." She soon ends her walk through the light and reaches the exit to a new world. A world full of terrible power.
Dana finds herself in a town coated in ash and flames. Screams can be heard from many directions. The sky is darkened by clouds and smoke rises upwards to help shroud the town further. "What's going on? Where am I?"
The familiar voice returns to Dana. "This is the world you are meant to protect. I brought you to this town because it is your first step in saving this world. There is something important you must do here." After the voice speaks, a small group of humanoid creatures notice Dana, they are purple with green outfits and red eyes. They start to approach in a fighting stance.
"Wait, I can't fight these! I don't have any equipment! I'll be destroyed."
"I can help with that." A strange ball of light descends from the sky and into Dana's hands. It transforms into a Bronze Lance and a strange cube. Dana holds the lance in one hand and the blue, glowing cube in the other. "I don't have much time to explain. I need you to look deeply into the cube and try to find what it is connected to. Once you find it, toss the Link Cube forwards. I will distract these Primids as long as I can." Three human-like creatures drop down from the sky and begin to battle the Primids in in hand to hand combat.
"Alright, focus on the cube. I better hurry..." Dans focuses intently on the strange cube, trying to see something in it.
A. "...I see a wolf!" B. "...It's a crown." C. "...A dragon is inside."

"...I see a wolf!" As Dana speaks, the polygonal creatures defeat the Primids, but are quickly defeated by a slash of light. A Primid walks in holding a red-orange sword emitting light. It looks dangerously powerful and cuts through things easily. Two other fist fighting Primids are with it. As they approach, the sword wielding Primid holds the weapon above his head, ready to strike at Dana. Before it can hit though, the cube Dana holds flashes brightly in light and the next moment, the Primid is knocked backward by a resounding thud sound. A guy with long black hair is now standing in front of her with his fist out as if he punched the creature away. He then gets in a fighting stance while watching the Primids carefully.
"Get up. We need to fight these things together." He glances over at Dana with icy blue eyes. "I'm not entirely sure how I got here or why my aura has diminished, but getting attacked by weird monsters won't give me these answers. You must be useful with a lance. Let's get to fighting." The three Primids reorganize themselves and prepare for battle. "Any ideas on how to fight them?"
"Maybe..."

"Alright, you take the front and I'll fight from back here! Okay?" Dana stands back and prepares her magic while Zyl stands in front, ready to do some damage.
The battle quickly starts with Zyl dashing forward towards an unarmed Primid, landing a kick to the face and two rapid punches before there's time to react. The Primid collapses as the darkness inside floats up and away. The other unarmed Primid starts to run toward Zyl, but Dana summons a fish to fight. A small portal of light appears as a fish jumps out and tackles the Primid, flopping around and spasmodically beating up the Primid until it is defeated as well. The Sword Primid comes in, swinging his blade at Zyl. Zyl notices the Sword Primid just seconds before the strike, barely avoiding getting slashed.
The Sword Primid is the only one left and Zyl attempts to keep his distance to avoid the sword. Dana summons another flying fish to smash into the Primid, knocking it off balance long enough for Zyl to finish it off with a punch.
Dana let's out a sigh of relief. "Glad that fight's over..."
"Hold on, I hear more. Stay back!" Zyl pushes Dana out of the way as a flame blasts past her. "It's the ones burning down this town!" Zyl prepares for battle yet again as more Primids approach. The three Primids are red instead of green and have control over fire. Zyl remembers his fight against Phoenix back in his own world. He better keep his distance with his fire weakness. "It looks like things are getting hard here. What now?"
A. Dana focuses physical and Zyl focuses magic B. Zyl focuses physical and Dana focuses magic C. Both physical D. Both magic E. Improvise with your surroundings! F. Custom G. RUUUUNNNN!!!

Suggestion by Yoshi
Have both of them use magic but use the surroundings to our advantage. Have Dana take point because of our partners weakness to fire

"I can't back down here..." Zyl stands his ground, ready to fight. He defeated Phoenix when they fought and he will defeat these Fire Primids.
The battle begins as Zyl dashes forward, leaping up high and kicking down on a Fire Primid, back flipping off before using a kick to trip the same Fire Primid and ending his combo with a couple of punches. With two Fire Primids left, Dana summons her mighty fish, sending it flying towards another Primid as it flops around at it. The fish damages the Fire Primid, but is soon grilled by the Fire Primid. The two Fire Primids left surround Zyl and begin to spit their fire breath at him. The flames burn him as he stands there, making him weaker. "Not good...I feel weak..."
With Zyl weakening, Dana decides to take action. She grabs a flaming plank of wood off the ground that recently fell off a house and bashes the weakened Fire Primid over the head with it. The Fire Primid drops to the ground, defeated and leaves an opening for Zyl. He runs off from the other Fire Primid and both he and Dana hide behind a building. The Fire Primid approaches, breathing powerful streams of fire while walking behind the building to find nobody there. From up above, Zyl and Dana both drop from the top of the building, landing on the Fire Primid and finishing the battle.
"Well that wasn't so bad." Dana says as she brushes the spot off of her clothes.
"I don't think I can fight much more..." Zyl breathes heavily from his wounds.
The two stand slowly, but the ground begins to shake as the building they stand next to explodes apart into splinters. From the original location of the building, a large monster is heard stomping, but is hidden from the smoke. Having been knocked back by the blast, both Zyl and Dana sit on the ground, watching the beast approach. Two sets of glowing eyes stay fixed on both of them. "We can't fight this thing!" Zyl yells out to Dana to leave so they can escape this fight.
LEVEL UP Dana Lv. 1 -> 2 Zyl Lv. 1 -> 2
A. Stand and fight! B. Zyl stays to fight C. Dana stays to fight D. We can't fight it. Run! E. Let Zyl decide F. Throw a Tauros at it!

"You're right. We can't fight it here. It looks like running is our only choice!" Zyl nods as Dana tells him this and the two run off as a blazing fire blasts where they once were. Both of them continue to charge out of town, avoiding other explosions until finally escaping. The beast begins to follow them out of the town, but something strange happens. The creature reels backward in pain when a flash of light is emitted in the sky. Zyl and Dana don't have time to ask questions though. They get out of there as fast as they can, following a dirt road past a few hills until eventually reaching a split in the path.
They stand atop a hill overlooking the charred town and take in their surroundings. The path to the left moves up at a steep slant upward toward a snow covered mountain and the path to the right is lost within an expansive forest. As they stand there, clouds seem to start forming above.
"I think this place is safe. I don't sense any enemies..." Zyl calms down as he sits down on the grass, out of breath. Dana decides to take a seat as well to catch her breath. It looks like she will have to decide what to do next. She has many questions and wants answers, but somehow she feels Zyl doesn't know them. The only way to find out is to see if she can find that mysterious voice...
What To Do?
Choose Two
A. Get some rest. B. Look around the area. C. Get to know Zyl better. D. Throw a Tauros at Zyl. E. Train by fighting with each other.
Where To Go?
A. Return to the burned town, it might still be there. B. Head off to the mountains. C. Go to the woods. D. Just wait here and stay a night.

Dana looks over at Zyl when he flops down on the grass. "How about we just stay here for the rest of the day? A lot has happened and it looks like it will be a rainy night." Zyl nods afterwards, confirming they would stay. "Alright, let's get to work on making a small camp then. I've got something cool I want to try out! All I need is some wood from the forest." Dana winks at Zyl as she hops up and runs off. He stares off as she runs, confused, with his head tilted to the side. Deciding she will most likely be back later, he takes a nap in the grass.
Dana skims around the outer part of the forest, checking for any wood, but it seems all she can find are sticks. "Looks like I'm going to have to cut some trees then." Dana takes out her Bronze Lance and it begins to glow. She slashes down some small trees and cuts them down until becoming easy to carry material wood. By easy to carry, I mean a bunch of heavy wood slabs. Dana slowly drags the wood back over to the hill. She then sits down with a sigh of relief, knowing they should have enough wood for their small camp. After taking a moment to relax, she gets up shortly after to finish up. Asking Zyl for help, the two begin work on the camp. Dana provides slashing and cutting for the wood, changing them to the appropriate size while Zyl uses his animal strength and speed to put things together effectively. After some hard work, the finished product is a small hut that's just large enough for the two of them. It isn't perfect and has a few flaws, but it will keep the rain out and give them a place to stay.
With a place to stay set up, both Zyl and Dana relax by their hut. As they regain their strength, Zyl notices Dana speaking to many birds. "...What are you doing?" Zyl's question startles the birds and they all flutter away quickly.
With a quick sigh, Dana turns to Zyl to answer his question. "I was asking those birds to find us something to eat so we don't starve and die. Then you scared them off."
"Oh...sorry. Do you want me to go catch them and bring them back?"
"No, I don't think you should do that. It could end badly. Maybe I'll just have to go get some from the forest."
After standing up, Dana is quickly stopped by Zyl. "Hey, wait. That forest is probably dangerous to wander into too far. Let me take care of it. I'll get in there and get out quickly."
"Hmm...Yeah, okay. After all, you do owe me for getting that wood in the forest."
"What? You already went in the forest by yourself!?"
"Less talking and more gathering!" Dana yells this out while pushing Zyl forward and quickly waving. Zyl shrugs and continues along down to the forest. Dana nods her head and runs back over to the hut to get a fire going. She hasn't learned any fire magic though. It can't be that hard. It's just like light magic, but hotter. She focuses her light magic into her lance, attempting to change it to fire. Without much luck, she puts her weapon away and instead creates a ball of light in her hands. It's warm, but the heat still needs to go up.
Dana spends a long time focusing on the light, trying her best to create fire. It reaches high temperatures, but not close enough to a fireball. She intently focuses and time passes quickly without her noticing until something taps her on the shoulder from behind. She quickly let's out a small yelp, not expecting anyone to show up and a small blaze of fire is shot from her hand at the mysterious creature. Zyl barely avoids the fire, ducking down and falling clumsily to the ground. "Be careful with that fire! You could have burnt my face off with it!"
"Oops! I'm so sorry, Zyl!" Dana apologizes and helps up Zyl and then realizes that she just made fire. "Whoa! I actually can use fire! I didn't think that would really work!" Dana lights a campfire with some leftover wood as it starts to get dark. She and Zyl cook up some berries he found out in the forest and eat them pretty quickly. "Hey, how did you know these berries were safe to eat?"
"It's pretty obvious they aren't poisonous with that scent."
"You...smelled them...?"
"Yeah, why wouldn't I? I wouldn't just cook up some poisonous berries for us to eat."
"...It's like you're a dog or something."
Zyl seems oblivious to Dana's comment as he continues to eat multiple berries at once. "What was that?"
"Nothing! I didn't say anything! These berries sure are great! Better not waste them! Hurry and eat them all before they get all cold!" Dana begins to shove food in her mouth to end more conversation between the two. Once they finish eating, Zyl decides to train by attacking a tree nearby while Dana sits by the fire, practicing her light magic. "So where do you think that light went?"
"What light?" Zyl responds as he continues to attack the tree with a barrage of kicks and punches.
"Oh, you weren't there for that. Nevermind. There was some kind of light that was guiding me through that fight in the town."
Zyl seems interested in the light and stops training momentarily to ask a question. "Was it a blue light shaped like a woman? I've been trying to figure out who that is for a while now."
"Huh?" Dana is absolutely confused. "I didn't see a blue light. It was just...a light. It was light colored."
"Okay...whatever light colored means..." They both finish up their training after the strange conversation and run inside when it begins to rain. They both sit inside as it becomes completely dark out and the room is only lit by a ball of light held by Dana. She does notice Zyl sitting by the entrance and looking out at the rain though.
He seems oddly quiet as she walks toward him. "What's wrong? You're being all quiet."
"It's nothing. I was just thinking about earlier..."
"What about earlier? You mean the burning town?"
"...Yeah, that's it. I was just thinking about that giant monster. It's my fault that we couldn't save that town, isn't it?"
"Why would you say that?"
"Well, we couldn't fight that monster because I was weakened by the fire. It's my fault. If I wasn't there, you would have stayed and fought. You could have defeated that thing and saved everyone. But you couldn't because I was there and I would have died. All those innocent people were killed by that thing..."
"Zyl! Don't say it's your fault! It's true that monster destroyed that town, but we can't be sure the people were killed as well. We didn't even see anyone there. Besides, I chose to leave! Neither of us could handle that thing during that time! Nobody would have lived if we didn't run. It isn't your fault."
"I guess you're right, but I can't help but feel like I should have done something."
"Well you can't change the past. All we can do is look ahead to a brighter future. Here, I have an idea. How about I promise that the next time we find that beast, we can defeat it together? Does that sound alright?"
"I guess so..." Zyl seems unsure.
"Hey, don't worry too much about it. I know that together we can do this and stop that thing from attacking anyone else."
"Alright." Zyl had what seemed to be a faint smile on his face before quickly looking away from Dana. "Well, it's getting late. I'm going to bed." After that comment, both of them comfortably situated themselves on their beds of leaves and grass until drifting into sleep.
The night was peaceful and quite with the gentle rain, but it seemed as if the rain had suddenly stopped during the night. In fact, it felt like the temperature fell as well. There was a strange rumbling as well off in the distance. It wasn't thunder, but it was more like some animal. With the strange sound resonating around the area, it woke up Dana. She noticed the strange changes in the surroundings and looked around a bit closer. Zyl was snoring and was sleeping deeply. She thought everything was normal, but as soon as she created a ball of light, she knew something was wrong. Despite the warm weather earlier, it is snowing outside. The little flurries of snow fly around frantically in the wind and already a few inches have piled up. Dana quickly wakes up Zyl by shaking him awake and they both run outside to investigate. Dana slips on the ice and nearly falls directly into a Sword Primid, but Zyl deftly moves across the ice and knocks the Primid backward with a punch as it floats away in small orbs of darkness.
"It looks like an ambush. There must be some ice enemies around, so stay on guard. I can move around this cold area easily, but you might have trouble. The strategy is up to you though. What do we do?" While Zyl talks, two Primids come sliding on the ice to fight along with another Sword Primid.
