Hey players, just checking in. I'm mostly looking to determine if you guys feel like this is working out. I know I need to be reacting to your posts faster overall, since I initially intended daily updates. However, I feel like even if I did that, this wouldn't really be progressing as quickly as it needs to. Moving a bunch of individual stories along means that each team ends up getting only enough material to amount to a single minute or two of reading, and I can't imagine that being very satisfying. What do you all think - have I gone too far outside of my comfort zone? Was I foolish to try out the individual format?
On the other hand, is there anything you think I am doing correctly? I asked for suggestions on writing in the shorter format, but nobody answered and so I am flying completely blind.

I honestly think you should go at a pace your comfortable with. If that means creating it as a Gates of Bowser style. Then That's what you should do.
If this is something you just can't get into or if this is something where your heart isnt in to. I much rather you just restart the format from scratch and go back to the format you like the best.
I like the gates of Bowser style just as much as the Cemetery gates style. The Gates of Bowser is much easier on you as a GM because you only have one team and one group to keep an eye on. If this is something that's hard on you I much rather you go to a format your okay with.
I know right now its slow on my end because its going through the process of signing up to be a trainer in Ethos. Paper work and filling out forms usually isn't very exciting. I mean if others want to do there own thing I guess. But I think others really liked the original Gates of Bowser style. Considering we actually got to the end of the game and we completed the game.
With Gates of Bowser it might have been 100 floors but some of those floors were mini floors like boss battles or a trap. Others were there own little world and had so much to do.
Honestly, Punk I am all for you doing what makes you comfortable. Because in the end this is your idea and your thing. If its something thats hard for you and you don't want to do it. Then this doesn't really have a chance because in the end your the one who's in control of posting this and keeping up with everything in the end.

I've been pretty satisfied so far. If you read everyone's stories, it gives you a lot to look at and I never really expected a lot of daily posts. Things feel like they're going at a comfortable pace to me.
If you feel like this is too much though, I think it's a good idea to return to what you're most comfortable with.

Then this doesn't really have a chance because in the end your the one who's in control of posting this and keeping up with everything in the end. The problem is that I do not think that my preferred, narrative based style is very popular on this site. I took a poll to see what people were interested in, and every single vote went to forum game. People want individual characters and individual, completely free choice, but this is kind of a problem because there's not always a hell of a lot to say about what's going on depending on their actions. In particular, I struggle very very strongly with making conversations work in this format. However, the votes, including yours, say quite a bit: they want individual forum game style gameplay, not a shared CYOA. For example, the scene with Fawful, Rosalina and their registration. In a less free format, I could start and conclude that in a single post with no need for boredom, since the only meaningful choice to be made is whether they consented to being scanned by the Gardevoir (yes/no choice) and who they want as their sponsor (of which Fawful and Rosalina could only really say May or Dawn, say they don't know anyone, or lie and say they know Professor SoGood). It leads to situations like Pielover getting caught at the shop and making his post literally just "Probably not." and such. Basically, it makes the entire thing turn into a slow crawl towards essentially nothing. To get through the amount of days I had planned for this story would take at least a year if not longer, and I feel like interest has already dropped off. Gates of BC and it's 42 floors were really fun, but I feel like if even a Tower made by the one and only Justice can't build hype, anything I would do in that category would be scant in popularity. Here's the thing - it's not even that it's hard for me. I just don't enjoy splitting up my writing into individual, super short chunks for each player. I like to write a nice, reasonably sized update in which I can guarantee there's at least something happening each post. I know people want freedom, but tbqh there's not really anything that any of the players have done that wouldn't have been included as a choice in a CYOA. tl;dr: Back when I created the original Cemetery Gates, I wanted to be Bethesda Game Studios. After some growing and personal changes, I want to be Telltale Games. But I don't see that as a popular choice that would appeal to the local tastes here.

Oh hey this is what I was forgetting isn't it I'll get right on my new post Punk but, if your asking me how I'm liking it I'm with Just I've had a lot of fun with this so far and keeping up with everyone's threads keeps me more then content on content so don't worry about that obviously I have no frame of reference to say how it compares but, I'm liking this so keep it up

Things feel like they're going at a comfortable pace to me. If you feel like this is too much though, I think it's a good idea to return to what you're most comfortable with. It was intended to be daily updates to compensate for the relative shortness of the updates. Oh hey this is what I was forgetting isn't it I'll get right on my new post Punk but, if your asking me how I'm liking it I'm with Just I've had a lot of fun with this so far and keeping up with everyone's threads keeps me more then content on content so don't worry about that obviously I have no frame of reference to say how it compares but, I'm liking this so keep it up I appreciate that, but don't feel pressured. The reason I decided to run this game was to appeal to local tastes, and I will try my very best to update quicker and more reflexively. Anyone have any tips on the 'not getting caught up on things that could and should be resolved quickly' problem I'm having? Like, conversations, store interactions etc that in a video game would be resolved near-instantaneously. Really, the most important thing is that I feel like if I did something to appeal to my tastes and not the local ones, I would get nearly no participation, and I don't want anything I write down to be masturbatory (just for me). As much fun as I've had with my main game (SRW), it literally gets 1-2 votes per update, and that's just not enough. I want to feel like I'm part of the community, not just someone running a game on the site individually. That is why I started this game.

Punk I know for sure me and Just and Pie and Fuzzball would participate in Gates of Bowser style of game.
What's this feel like part of the community bullshit?
Hell yeah your apart of this crazy dysfunctional yet tight knit crew.
If people don't like gates of Bowser they will learn to love those game. Heck when Just did a game like that for here he had his own little following of me Crow Digi and others so a game like that can most certainly work.
I can understand wanting to do something liked by all. But I as much as I am happy to see Cemetery gates here. I don't want it if it becomes too much of a hassle or a grind or a burden for you. It can only end badly if in your heart of hearts this isn't in you.
If your nervous about participation then do a mini gates to gauge interest. Like how Gates of Hell was a prequl to gates of Bowser. Maybe do something like that. Which is either a small side story to gates or is something where its the demo version of a game but you can bring the stuff over to the main game.
Now I am not saying give up on Gates. But I am just saying think about it before everyone becomes too vested in the game and then it becomes that much harder to drop it.

I have nothing negative to say about this game or it's pace.
I love your style to be honest.
