"We're not burning down a library. But we can look around in it." Go into the library.

You also stick you orb back in the slot with the new shard. It comes out a bit more complete.
Gained Fusion, NPC slots +1, editing speed +1.
You notice everyone else is gone...
Celica nods approvingly. "Let us keep fixing this ball."

"Agreed. Next stop is the hospital to get the next fragment." Before I head off to the hospital, do I need to pick my new item from the first time I repaired my sphere here or can I do it anywhere once I've decided what I want?

You'll need to do it at the fountain.

Oh. Do you want to add something, or head to the hospital?

Eh, I guess I can try to decide after the hospital since I can't make up my mind. One question I'd like to ask though, if an item's only purpose is powering up a specific character is it possible to classify them as a single item by saying it's equipped to them? More specifically Ampharosite is worthless except for Mega Evolving Ampharos, but in addition to the fact that I'll need to get a keystone one way or another (either as a quest reward or through the vending machine) I'd need both of them, and if I get a keystone through the latter method then that's potentially three different items all needed just to do one thing in a game with a fairly limited inventory size.

I'll do it on a case-by-case basis but most stuff that's got item dependency on something trivial like a keystone that people wouldn't even think to give in the thingy I'll say just work.
Also you'll need to go through the Merchant District but not much has changed from Kitty's thing, Blondie's still sipping coffee and watching the merchants fight.
Move to Hospital.

Kitty
You return to the Town Square in time to see a lady in a red dress with a white apron riding on a broomstick fly into that Temple of Space thing.
Crow reappears on your shoulder. He has a library card pinned to his chest and that book he was reading earlier under one wing.

"Okay so Hearthside Farm. Which way is that, Crow?"

Kitty
Crow thinks for a minute, then hops down to the ground and opens the book to The Raven. He pecks at the word December a few times, then flips the book upside down.

"...South." Use the direction of the sun to find south and go that way.

Philemon
You follow the general directions to get to the town square, passing through the merchant district on your way.
When you reach the town square, you find it's full of people coming and going. Some are short with mushroom-like heads, while just as many are human-sized, but with pointy ears.
A statue in the middle of the place shows three beautiful women surrounded by seven stars with human faces. Six slots in its base glow in six colors: green, yellow, light blue, purple, dark blue, and ?#*%?. They look to be about the size of your orb... or the size it would be if it weren't broken.
A large building is surrounded by guards. You notice a few people, some locals and others with animal features, going in and out while stopping to present papers.
A path leads up to a giant, stone castle.
Also a small bakery is getting a surprising amount of traffic.
A blonde-haired young woman in a bonnet, a frilly dress, and high heels is standing in front of a large board prominently displayed on the edge of the square. A thin, red choker is tied around her neck, and a rapier hangs from her hip. The back of her hand is marked with small tattoo shaped like a wing. She gingerly pulls a flier off the board. "This job seems simple enough, and decent pay."
