Augments and Tools Neurolink: A handy interface which allows me to communicate with others, directly project information into my mind, and give commands to Neurolink compatible devices. No self-respecting Avali would go past early childhood without having one of these installed. Pulse Spear: A custom weapon of my own design. Instead of Aerogel it projects plasma-like energy allowing it to double as both a spear and rifle without needing to fit the necessary parts for both separately. Neurolink compatibility means it can project a spearhead or fire energy pulses far more quickly than with the use of a button or trigger. Guardian Nanites and Temperature Regulators: The only reason I can survive on this blasted furnace of a planet. In addition to fighting off foreign pathogens these microscopic devices also regulate my internal temperature to keep me at a reasonable 243.15 K. Without this my blood would boil even at temperatures considered life-threateningly cold by the standards of this planet’s inhabitants. Guard Projector: A defensive tool embedded in my right hand. By holding my hand out and activating it, I can project a forcefield large enough to protect myself against enemy attacks. It won’t work with a closed hand and only projects right in front of it, so my options are limited while it’s up.

People Khaii: One of my packmates who I’ve known for as long as I can remember. He’s a levelheaded guy who tends to not get too worked up over most things, making him the perfect exploration partner on foreign planets such as this one. Neza: Another packmate. Somebody needed to stay onboard the ship to work on fixing the warp drive, and as the best with large-scale machines out of all three of us (and someone who’s never been good with strangers, although she’d probably never admit that’s why she stayed behind) she’s the perfect fit for the job. Some Asshole: A native lifeform - they’re called humans, I think? - who tried to kill me spouting nonsense about rodents and plans during some sort of weird dream-but-not-a-dream. Owns a mech that’s surprisingly impressive looking for such a primitive species, although I could do without the gaudy design meant to look like him. Dawn: A pink creature apparently known as an Espeon, she appears to possess psychic abilities and an interest in helping me. She communicates by telepathically conveying words and concepts, which would probably be a lot more confusing to someone who wasn’t already used to chatting via Neurolink. Anna: An Earth woman who somehow managed to get onto The Iceberg while we were in orbit. Fortunately she’s only interested in setting up a shop here, but this still says something about the state of our security. Sonic: A blue native lifeform called a hedgehog helping me locate the Chaos Emeralds. Is capable of running at improbably high speeds. Tails: A yellow creature called a fox, and Sonic’s friend. He’s surprisingly talented with machines, and is currently helping Neza repair our ship. The even greater mystery than his mechanical skills is how he flies by spinning his tails, particularly since the lack of any sort of rotary augmentation means they should just get tangled up.
