Before we get started here, once again I’d like to stress this does not mean the game will be starting soon, or maybe even at all (hopefully this goes somewhere, but considering how the last time I had a bunch of ideas went I’m making no promises) This is mostly just to get my ideas out there, maybe drum up some interest or get some feedback. Additions to this post will be made when I have time.
A deal with the devil...
Demon Negotiation
All playable characters will have the mysterious COMP app download itself onto their phones some time just before the game’s beginning. More than just questionably malware, the mere existence of this app allows you to speak with demons. By chatting up these fiendish foes you may be able to end a fight nonviolently, and if you’re lucky even persuade them to join your side. Some demons may want an offering of money or items, ask you questions to judge what sort of person you are, or keep your offer in mind but go back to fighting, wanting a show of strength to prove your worth. Others may be impossible to negotiate with, whether due to lacking the intelligence for it (mostly Haunt type demons), lacking interest (bosses), an irreconcilable difference in alignments (if you side with the Law faction you won’t be able to recruit demons working for the Chaos faction, or vice-versa) or due to Lunacy. If you don’t have your phone with you or it’s not working, well then you’re also out of luck.
Cooperation is key
Demon Summoning
Once you’ve recruited a demon through summoning, you’ll be able to summon it using your COMP app. Since you’ll ideally be sticking together most of the time for the sake of my sanity (makes things a lot easier to run if you aren’t all doing different things) you’ll usually only be able to have one demon summoned at a time each, but can change which demon you have out any time out of battle or by spending your turn in battle. You won’t directly control your demons, but if you give them commands then as long as it’s a reasonable order and you haven’t done something to lose their trust they’ll usually listen. Examples of order that might be ignored include: using an attack of an element an enemy has already demonstrated an immunity to, attacking another demon of the same species, or attacking instead of healing themselves when low on health. As your demons grow to trust you more you’ll find them more willing to obey commands they might not have before, but be sure not to betray that trust as a demon that grows discontent enough with you may leave the party. Loyalty will also affect how a demon behaves when not given commands, as will their personality.
Power of the occult
Talismans
Although humans are incapable of casting magic normally, you may occasionally come across a talisman. When equipped, talismans allow for the casting of various spells ranging from elemental attacks to healing or buffs. Talismans are shared among the party, but each talisman can only be equipped to one person at a time.
Moonlit Madness
Lunacy
Over the course of the game the moon’s phases will gradually shift, waxing and waning from night to night. During the full moon, most enemies (and sometimes allied demons, with more loyal demons being less likely) will enter an agitated state known as Lunacy in which their attacks are stronger, their fighting style is more reckless, and they cannot be negotiated with (enemies) or given commands (allies).
