Halo probably wins, because I think nobody here plays horror games, but I have a monologue to make today anyway.
***Dead Space***
Everyone should play Dead Space 1 and 2, Horror or not. It is a very unique series, but I also feel like it's a very important one. In my opinion, Dead Space 1 and 2 are not only amazing games, but it's THE essential game to analyze. Analyzing Dead Space is just so easy when you get to it, because it's probably the least abstract, yet immersive game design you'll ever see. And there's so much interesting research videos about it, all with new things to learn. It's a perfect symbiosis of gameplay, immersion and audio. I am voting for Dead Space, not only as an amazing game, but as a subject of research I still dive into from time to time. It is a series I researched in university fro my videogame design classes and more than 3 years after, I'm still interested in researching it.
While Dead Space 3 totally ruined Ellie Langford as a character, I think it's still an interesting game. Isaac's evolution from being scared for 2 games, then knowing what he's dealing with and how to deal with it is translated into the game as turning from horror into action focused. That change IS disappointing, but it mirrors the character's evolution, so I think it made sense.
***Halo***
Now, I played the Horde modes from some Halo games with my friends and had a lot of fun with them, but never had any interest in playing the campaigns. I played Halo really late and in terms of sci-fi games, I was a big fan of Metroid already, Ratchet and Clank and Perfect Dark on the N64. Therefore, I came into Halo with a certain expectation on sci-fi weaponry and I was utterly disappointed. The guns look cool, but I never knew how to explain it, when you pull the trigger, they just feel like any COD/MOH/Battlefield weapons instead of sci-fi ones.
Therefore, my disinterest in getting in the Halo series comes from an expectation I had on sci-fi weapons that wasn't met at all. I don't hate Halo, I just never really got into it.
With that said, I think Dead Space really shined in weapons too by making all of them, except the pulse rifle, be mining equipments.
