Since I'm currently at a place away from my usual computer. Bored out of my mind I thought about Kinda reviewing one of my favorite archetypes in Yugioh. The Time Thieves.
The Time Thieves are an archetype of Dark Attributed Level 4 monsters built around Xyz Summoning. The archetype as a whole are based on the long running television series, Doctor who, but could also be a reference to Konami's visual novel, Time Hollow.
Now with that's out of the way lets review some Thief cards
First up is Time Thief Regulator. A Level 4 Dark Machine with 600 attack and 200 defense the following effect.
"If you control no other monsters: You can Tribute this card; Special Summon 2 "Time Thief" monsters with different names from your Deck in Defense Position, except "Time Thief Regulator".
When an Xyz Monster you control is destroyed by battle, while this card is in your GY: You can Special Summon this card, but banish it when it leaves the field. You can only use each effect of "Time Thief Regulator" once per turn"
This card is an Archetypal "Rescue Rabbit" and can lead into a turn 1 Xyz play. The Recursion effect when an Xyz monster is destroyed by battle is an extra cherry on top. Absolutely run 3. He is a 100% good Doggo.
Their next Monster is Time Thief Winder. Level 4 Dark Psychic with 1800 attack and 1300 Defense and the following effect.
"You can detach 1 material from an Xyz Monster you control; Special Summon this card from your hand.
If this card is Normal or Special Summoned: You can add 1 "Time Thief" card from your Deck to your hand, except "Time Thief Winder". You can only use each effect of "Time Thief Winder" once per turn."
Much like how Regulator was an archetypal "Rescue Rabbit", This Swave Gentleman is a Time Thief Stratos. Being able to search for any time thief card when summoned and being able to special summon himself on top of that is a really good effect. Run 3 at all times.
Next level 4 is Time Thief Chronocorder. Level 4 Dark Machine with 1000 attack and Defense and the following effect
"During your opponent's Battle Phase (Quick Effect): You can Tribute this card; the next battle damage you take from an opponent's monster's attack this turn is inflicted to your opponent instead.
If a face-up Xyz Monster you control leaves the field by card effect, while this card is in your GY (except during the Damage Step): You can Special Summon this card, but banish it when it leaves the field. You can only use each effect of "Time Thief Chronocorder" once per turn."
So I have won a Duel once by using that first effect. But other then that the first effect is forgettable and is really just a stall option. The second effect makes this card usable. Recursion after an Xyz leaves the field by card effect because the Deck's Boss monster is able to remove himself off the field with his own effect to be able to summon this thing. Which then you can use this to summon another Xyz or deal that last 1000 damage to get the win. Definitely a 1. Maybe side deck a second. It's a Machine that goes Ding. Not much else to say about it
Their last Main deck monster is Time Thief Bezel ship. Level 4 Dark machine with 1000 attack and 2000 defense and the following effect
"(Quick Effect): You can Tribute this card, then target 1 "Time Thief" Xyz Monster you control; attach 1 card from your opponent's GY to that monster as material.
If this card is in the GY: You can detach 1 material from an Xyz Monster you control; Special Summon this card, but banish it when it leaves the field. You can only use each effect of "Time Thief Bezel Ship" once per turn."
That first effect can prevent GY set up while the second is a Floating effect for more Xyz plays... Nothing else to write home about. Run 2. Next.
Now for their 2 Extra Deck monsters.
Going first is Strong. The Boss Monster. Time Thief Redoer. Rank 4 Dark Psychic Xyz monster with 2400 attack and 2000 defense. It Requires 2 Level 4 monsters to summon and has the following effect
"Once per turn, during the Standby Phase: You can attach the top card of your opponent's Deck to this card as material.
(Quick Effect): You can detach up to 3 different types of materials from this card, then apply the following effect(s) depending on what was detached.
●Monster: Banish this card until the End Phase.
●Spell: Draw 1 card.
●Trap: Place 1 face-up card your opponent controls on the top of the Deck.
You can only use this effect of "Time Thief Redoer" once per turn"
This boss monster is quite the Swave prick isn't he. Can can temporarily remove himself from the field. Which can even Trigger Chronocorder. Which you can combo it with more time thief monsters. For example you can use Regulator to summon Bezel ship and Chronocorder, Xyz into Redoer, special summon Winder from your hand by removing Chronocorder off of Redoer(and get a search too). Use Redoer's effect to remove himself from the field to summon Chronocorder from the GY and then Xyz into another rank 4. And Redoer comes back at the end of the turn.
It can also let you draw a card AND has non-targeting Removal. He also steals card from your opponent in every standby phase. Not just your own, which combos well with the Removal effect. You can remove a Main deck card and steal it if you time it well.
2 is a Respectable number of Redoers to run but I don't blame you running 3.
Their other Rank 4 is Time Thief Perpetua. Another Rank 4 Dark Psychic. She has 1900 attack and 2500 defense. Requires 2 level 4s to summon and has the following effect.
"During the Standby Phase: You can detach 1 material from this card, then target 1 "Time Thief" monster in your GY, except "Time Thief Perpetua"; Special Summon that monster. (Quick Effect): You can target 1 other Xyz Monster you control; attach 1 "Time Thief" card from your Deck to it as material. You can only use each effect of "Time Thief Perpetua" once per turn."
She is able to revive a Redoer incase he dies, and can refuel him when he comes back to the field after death or from being banished. She can even give extra fuel to other Xyz monsters as well. Fairly useful support card for the main boss monster. Running 2 is my recommendation.
Now we get to the spells and traps. Most of the spells and traps have a gimmick where they can be activated from the Graveyard when you control a Time Thief Xyz monster.
The first spell is a Quick Play spell. Time Thief Startup.
"Special Summon 1 "Time Thief" monster from your hand.
During your Main Phase: You can banish this card from your GY, then target 1 "Time Thief" Xyz Monster you control; attach 3 "Time Thief" cards of different types (1 Monster, 1 Spell, and 1 Trap) from your GY to that monster as material. You can only use 1 "Time Thief Startup" effect per turn, and only once that turn."
This card lets you special summon Regulator. Basically giving you a Rank 4 without needing to use up your normal summon. The second effect allows you to instantly Refuel Redoer on Xyz Material when he comes back to the field after banishing himself. Run 3 copies of this card just for the first effect.
Their other Spell is a Continuous Spell, Time Thief Hack.
"During the turn they are Special Summoned, Xyz Monsters you control cannot be destroyed by your opponent's card effects, also your opponent cannot target them with card effects.
You can target 1 face-up Xyz Monster you control; it gains 300 ATK for each material currently attached to it, until the end of this turn, and if it does, and also has a material that is owned by your opponent, it can attack directly this turn (even if this card leaves the field). You can only use this effect of "Time Thief Hack" once per turn."
This card is great because it grants your Xyz monsters Protection when they are summoned. Preventing them from being Trap holed or Solemn Striked. The second effect promotes the playstyle of stealing a crap load of cards from your opponent to Power up Redoer to deal massive Damage. Running 1 is acceptable but running 2 just for the first effect is good too.
Their first Trap card is a normal Trap, Time Thief Flyback
"Target 1 "Time Thief" Xyz Monster you control; attach 1 "Time Thief" card from your hand or Deck to it as material.
You can banish this card from your GY, then target 1 "Time Thief" Xyz Monster you control; attach 1 card from your opponent's GY to it as material. You can only use 1 "Time Thief Flyback" effect per turn, and only once that turn."
You know the deal. Its refuel for Redoer and literally nothing else. Run 2 just to use it as Material fodder for other cards.
Their Final Trap and Final card is a Counter Trap, Time Thief Retrograde
"When a Spell/Trap Card is activated while you control a "Time Thief" Xyz Monster: Negate the activation, and if you do, attach that card to a "Time Thief" Xyz Monster you control as material. You can only activate 1 "Time Thief Retrograde" per turn."
Very Simple backrow Negation while more Xyz Material Fuel for Redoer and Perpetua. Run 3 because you really don't get much else.
And that's it. The deck has a whole lot of potential to be a Tier 1 deck. However the main flaw with the deck is that it lacks that support that it needs to be Tier 1. And unfortunately we may never get new Time Thief Support for a long time since it seems even Konami even forget about them.
As for what I think the deck needs? Maybe another Xyz monster that deals with stealing Opponent's cards. Maybe have a monster that can detach 2 materials to Negate and Steal a Monster from your Opponent.
Thats it for this. I'm not doing this again. I hoped you enjoyed it.
