Gwen finishes her squirrel and frowns. "Groundlings are weird. You two are weirder than most." She flies off without another word.
It's starting to get late, and you have class in the morning. You should head back to the Main Hall to sign up for next week.

You head up the long, winding trail to the lake. As you go, you spot Gwyn flying past overhead. She looks down and stares at you a moment, then continues flying past.
You reach the mountaintop lake and find that you're the only one there today. You'd expected Iora to be there, at least, but it looks like she had other ideas. The area is cold with the leaves starting to fall more forcefully. The water is frigid until you start to get used to it.
Cantrelle
You hike out into the forest. Fenian looks around, thinking a moment. "We are trying to go to the town after, and we do not have the whole day. That limits how many trails we can take, but I believe this one will be good."
You head out into the forest, finding it uncomfortably cold wearing performing clothes underneath your cloak. Iora, as always, doesn't seem particularly bothered by the cold, but quietly mutters under her breath the entire time. Fenian confidently leads the group, while Alice skips along near the rear, occasionally stopping to stare at a bush or plant before catching up.
Before long, Fenian brings everyone to a halt. You hear faint giggling ringing out from around you. "The fae are watching," he says.

Ray swims agressively to blow off steam, thinking out loud, but not necessarily screaming.
"I can understand Balthazar wanting to get better, we did get hurt in this exam... But the other two? A date? A DATE?! I understand they're both attractive, but come on! This is magic school! Not normal high school!!! We should be exploring what we could have done better in the exam right now! Instead, we're all doing stuff separately? Do they know what a group is?! And what was that hiss about? We're not beasts!!! I hated that!!! Huh... Maybe my family name is getting to my head... I might be taking this school TOO seriously? Why am I talking to myself? I should be honing my magic..."
Ray will create a Nightshroud underwater to swim through it in an attempt to practice navigating through the darkness.

You swim around for a while, practicing casting magic and moving around in it without bumping into anything. You start to get a feel for when you're about to slam into a rock and how to avoid it.
When you finish training you find Gwen sitting on the shore, eyeing you suspiciously. "What are you doing, Fleshling?"

Ray blinks at her a few times, wondering how long she's been there, then responds with a mildly defensive tone.
"I'm just practicing navigating inside Nightshroud... Wait... Fleshling? Are you not made of flesh yourself?!"

"No secret here... I'm a Talos! It's not like I can even have secrets. Everyone knows everything about me, apparently... I guess I smell fish because we work underwater? Or it's just the scent of this lake. No idea! But no. Human. Can't breathe underwater myself, but one day I should be in charge of some underwater armors to collect treasures."

Ray seems to process the end of Gwen's sentence, which suddenly fills him with excitement.
"Wait? You're serious? You don't know my family? That's not a trick, right?!"

"Of course harpies can't stay underwater forever, we dive for fish and go back to the sky where we belong! And why would I know your family? You famous among fleshlings or something? If you make armor, we harpies wouldn't know. What little armor we ever wear, we make ourselves."

"I don't waaaaaanna play with the mean fairies..." Iora whines.
"Hm? They are not mean," Fenian says. "But they do like to play pranks. We should be on our way."
"Yeah..." Alice mutters. "Um, bye, pixies."
"Why do we have to go to the town instead of the laaaaake..." Iora continues to whine.

With that, she flies off. You think that's the longest you've ever managed to talk to her without her seeming angry. Well, angrier than her baseline. It was almost a positive interaction. Maybe it was even neutral.
You spend a bit longer swimming around, feeling like your physical endurance has increased. But eventually the sun starts to set and the water temperature dips dangerously low.
