Dear Mercenary,
If you receive this message, it is because you have worked for us before and completed your mission in more than acceptable fashion.
We are now asking you to renew the trust you gave us before to accept a new mission.
We have detected a distress signal on a space station orbiting around planet Tallon IV. We suspect pirate activity.
Your mission, if you accept it, will be to investigate the space station and if our suspicions are correct, find and defeat the pirate commander there.
You will be paid accordingly to the mission's threat level when it is accomplished.
If you wish to sign up for the mission, please fill the following form:
Name: (How do you want us to name you? Some Bounty Hunters don't necessarily give us their real name) Species: (Please remind us what the name of your species is) Origin: (Please remind us your planet or world of origin) Description: (What you look like) Power Beam: (Your basic attack)
Charge Beam: (A stronger version of your Power Beam equivalent. Requires charging which means you probably won't shoot first when using this).Missile Launcher: (Your personal explosives) Morph Ball: (Your transformation) Scan Visor: (Your way of accessing the Galactic Federation Database) Backstory: (Optional) Unique abilities: (Optional. Only pick a unique ability if you wish to have a certain level of cheese)
To the pleasure of working together,
Admiral Dane
[You can sign up now, however, an OOC explanation of the game is coming soon]

---What is this game---
In this game, you play as whatever character you want to, wether they fit the Metroid universe or not. You will be participating in a retelling of the Metroid Prime Trilogy which adds details, events and characters for the sake of roleplaying, story or dramatic purposes. Your choices might even change the story drastically!
---Who are you?---
You are mercenaries or Bounty Hunters who accepted to work for the Galactic Federation. For one or multiple missions. That choice is yours! The content of this game is from 3 whole videogames. Therefore, if you want to change character during the story at any point, you can do so. However, it's one character at once per player.
---Exploration---
This version of the story is more or less open world. What this means is that players can split up if they wish to. All doors are considered blue, which means no door is locked behind an item. Morph Ball Bomb slots and Spinners are replaced by buttons or levers. The areas locked behind items will be those where there's natural occurences blocking you (a tunnel that requires your transformation, Magmoor Caverns heat, etc.) or mechanisms that appear during the story. Some rooms might not exist because the game doesn't contain item expansions in any forms. Any room you already explored will be skipped if it is clear where you are going, unless something new happens inside it.
---Items---
Along the way, you will find the same items Samus found during her adventures. You are not Samus however, so you will not necessarily gain the same abilities as her. It's your decision wether you get the exact item or an equivalent that fits your character more. For example, if you choose your Power Beam equivalent to be a sword, you can choose your Power Beam equivalent to be a sword. However, once you get Wave Beam, you could decide that your Wave Beam equivalent is an entirely different weapon instead of picking an electric sword.
---Collecting Items---
Only one pickup from each item exists. This means that only one player can pick up an item. It is highly suggested that all players share the items, but it is the person collecting the item's choice to decide wether they share the item they got with other players. What this mean is that technically speaking, if player characters split up, they should get all items collected when they meet up again. Items can also be shared with NPCs. Again, that's the choice of the person whom collected the item. Note that you might lose items at the start of each game's stories.
---Ammo System---
There is no ammo system other than your own common sense. Lorewise, your Missile Launcher equivalent would have ammo and your Power Bomb equivalent would have very limited ammo. In that sense, your character should use their tools that have unlimited ammo more than their tools that uses ammo. If you want to suddenly run out of ammo for dramatic purposes, that's also your choice. Note that you will always be considered to pick up ammo and health from defeated enemies, however I will never write or describe about this detail.
---Avoiding Damage---
Avoiding damage might be hard from a roleplaying perspective. What I mean is that if I accept "I shoot and dodge" as a statement to avoid taking damage, the players will never take damage and there will never be any tension. Therefore, you should detail your tactics to avoid damage. "I shoot and dodge" might not be enough, but a simple "I shoot while running, then dive behind the pile of crates as cover" is more than adequate. With this idea in mind, it might be interesting to pick unique abilities related to healing, defense or protecting others.
---Being Defeated---
Save points do not exist. Instead, everytime you are defeated, you will be given some choices. 2 options will always be "fall unconscious until found by an ally" and "die and join the mission as a new character". There will always be a third option that is more story-involved however (example: Be taken prisoner). You automatically get the "fall unconscious" option if another player character is standing in the same scene as you. If all player characters in the same scene are defeated, they can all pick a different choice.
---Attacking---
In this game, all your attacks are considered lethal. If you wish to not kill the creature you are attacking, you must specify that your attacks are non-lethal. It is also important to specify wether your attack is non-lethal for a single turn, the whole fight or against a specific target.
---Lore---
The scannable lore doesn't exist. You will receive exposition from NPCs you might find while exploring or by eavesdropping on enemies.
---You are not Samus, you are not bound by videogame rules---
You are not a famous Bounty Hunter. At the start of the game or at the start of every story, you are not recognizeable. The Space Pirates don't know who you are. For now at least. If you want to use diplomatic or stealth approaches, you can decide to do so. While you are limited to your collected items, this is a text-based game, not a videogame. Creativity and decision making is very welcome. I will not give examples, but you might be able to cheese many things via simple teamwork tasks that any humanoid could do.
---Relationships---
There is no specific relationship system in this game. However, how you treat NPCs you meet and/or travel with, might change the story entirely.
---Questions---
I think that's the gist of the necessary informations. Feel free to ask questions.

Name: Justicia☆Nova
Species: Human(?)
Origin: Magical Soldier Battalion 30-D-167-C
Description: Tall, athletic woman in her mid-20's with long, pink hair. Wears a regulation Justicia Ranger uniform: bright white blouse and armored miniskirt, pink waist utility ribbon (S.T.A.R.O.D. attached, with field rations, canteen, survival knife, etc concealed inside), royal blue ballistic vest with gold-dotted S.T.A.R.F.I.E.L.D. camo pattern and matching Kevlar stockings, white, calf-length, stilleto-heeled boots, white fingerless gloves, and one large royal blue cape-slash-thermal-blanket. Open-backed helmet lets her hair flow free (S.T.A.R.M.O.R. generator simulates a breeze to allow hair and cape to flap, even in the void of space). Pink-tinted half-face visor makes it hard to see clearly, but pupils are golden and star-shaped, like all Justicia Rangers.
Power Beam: S.T.A.R.O.D.: Handheld wand that fires small, star-shaped projectiles.
Charge Beam: S.T.A.R.O.D, Full Power Mode: By striking a series of specific dramatic poses and reciting the right lines, the S.T.A.R.O.D. becomes briefly empowered for a finishing blow.
Missile Launcher: S.T.A.R.A.Y.: Shoulder-mounted weapon. Fires a large, anti-tank-rated laser beam.
Morph Ball: S.T.A.R.Sh.R.In.K: Causes the user to transform into an 16-bit, chibi version of themselves roughly 1/3 the height and 2.5x the cuteness.
Scan Visor: Helmet-mounted visor comes equipped with standard communication suite.
Backstory:
Unique abilities: S.T.A.R.M.O.R. system provides life support and magical protection over bare skin as efficiently as a basic full-body armor system

Does the morph ball have to be something that shrinks or can it be just any sort of morph?

Name: Raku Species: Avali Origin: Avalon, an icy moon of a distant planet. While Avalon is rich in water, its extreme temperature and ammonia-based atmosphere make it uninhabitable by human standards. Description: A small, brown feathered raptor-like alien wearing a black and red shawl-like apparel, anklets, and a silver headpiece with a bright red feather attached. Underneath the skin are a variety of cybernetic enhancements, ranging from temperature and air regulating Guardian Nanites to a Neurolink to interface with devices mentally. Power Beam: The Pulse Spear, a personal weapon designed by Raku herself. This metal pole can both project a laser spearhead for slashing and stabbing attacks as well as launch beams as a ranged attack. There are no buttons for operating this weapon, instead controlled through thought via Raku’s neurolink interface. Charge Beam: Burst Shot. A shotgun blast of energy fired from the Pulse Spear with middling range but high power. Has a serious kickback to it, which could come in handy in the right situation. Missile Launcher: Blast Needles, thin metallic pins launched from a railgun attachment to the Pulse Spear. These pins can either explode on contact or by remote detonation via neurolink. Morph Ball: None. At roughly 3 feet tall Raku is already fairly small, and perfectly capable of crawling through most areas that would usually require a Morph Ball. Scan Visor: AR display. Rather than needing a scan visor, Raku’s neurolink can directly interface with her ship’s computer and display info as if it were right in front of her eyes. This also works as a communicator, letting her send and receive messages without the need for external hardware. Backstory: Raku is a traveling bounty hunter, traveling through space alongside her two packmates Khaii and Neza taking whatever odd jobs the three of them come across. Raku is the leader and usually the only one to actually go on missions, while Khaii is the science guy of the group and Neza is their engineer. Unique abilities: Raku possesses an incredible sense of hearing, not just on par with but outright surpassing her sense of sight. This lets her easily hear things others might miss no matter how quiet or masked by other sounds. She’s also more resistant to cold than humans, although less resistant to heat as a result.

Does the morph ball have to be something that shrinks or can it be just any sort of morph? You could pick a transformation that doesn't make you smaller, I guess, but there are natural tunnels that requires you to be small enough to go through them, so you might want to palliate that with some unique abilities in some way

Name: Manfred Frizlinger Species: Human Origin: Htrae Description: Like this guy, but with a whole lot more crap strapped to him. Lots more belts, zippers, things of that nature. Power Beam: Wunder Stick: An ancient artifact that really is just a stick. Pretty durable, though. Charge Beam: Wunder's Wunder: Charge up the stick, and hit really hard! If it kills an enemy, the stick gains a very, very slight power increase and gains a certain ability from the killed enemy. However, if another enemy is killed with this move, the extra ability swaps. Some upgrades may add reserve slots to this, hopefully. Missile Launcher: The Classic Way: Throw out a bit of gunpowder, and then throw a match at it.
Morph Ball: By waving the Wunder Stick in a very specific pattern and doing a very specific chant, Manfred can divorce his spirit from his body and move through open areas with it. His spirit form is quite flexible, you know, since it's incorporeal, and it can even manifest his physical body in an area, although it is hard to protect it without being in it. It has a range, though, the body has to be at least decently close by or it will begin to fade, and it is quite frail and has very little in terms of attack power. It can possess enemies if they are weakened sufficiently, although the body cannot be moved when the enemy is possessed, and the success of the possession is based heavily on the power of the enemy versus the power of Manfred. Very weak enemies will be a breeze, and may not even need to be weakened if they aren't very aggressive, boss enemies will be basically impossible to possess at all. Any fatal damage to the spirit, any possessed enemies, or a spirit that has faded away will lead to Manfred snapping back into it, albeit very dizzy and pretty much useless for the next minute at the very least. Scan Visor: Magnifying Glass, Rote Memorization: Out of sheer boredom and surprisingly robust memory, Manfred has actually memorized large portions of the database. He's surprisingly accurate, although new and updated information are impossible for him to procure. He tried printing out a print copy to carry with him, but that proved far too cumbersome. He always, without fail, no matter how serious the situation is, pulls out his magnifying glass before scanning something, although it literally serves no purpose. He tries to get people to believe it's a magic magnifying glass that speaks to him, but literally nobody believes that. Backstory: A pawn store owner from the Planet Htrae, Manfred always wanted to be a true adventurer. Collecting strange artifacts from his collection, one day a police impoundment of a cult led to him receiving the first actually useful artifact, the Wunder Stick, in an auction for the equivalent of about 50 US cents. With this stick, he killed a spider and then when he tried to scratch his back with it, the stick bit him! With this strange ability, his dream could finally come true. Unique abilities: Manfred also brought along his collection of artifacts, most of which are completely useless or serve only extremely niche purposes. He has marbles, really weird looking scraps of paper, a lot of stuff you would order off of the back of a comic book in the 1950's, and all sorts of other crap he lugs around with him. Conceivably somebody with some more mechanical experience could use these to MacGuyver something useful, although hey, maybe there will come a time when these artifacts could be used to do something.
I tried to balance him pretty well, tell me if I need to modify anything since I'm not very well voiced in the source material and I'm not sure if he would be extremely underpowered or overpowered.

The only thing I would say if that the possession from your spirit form would be your Morph Ball Bomb equivalent, which means you could still divide your body and spirit, but the possession thing would be the ugrade you get when Morph Ball Bomb becomes accessible.

Basically, the reason I'm asking that of you is that your transformation shouldn't have any form of attack until you get Morph Ball Bombs
