It's time for another Smash tournament with a twist! This time customization will be a big factor. The rules are three stock with no time limit. You can only use custom stages to fight on. As usual, items will be voted on. Characters must be customized in some way. The stage must have enough room to walk on to battle and cannot have some sort of endless stage hazard trap. It will be a best two out of three 1 vs 1. I think that's everything, so good luck and have fun!

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Oh boy...
For customizations, are we just doing Custom Moves, or are we including Equipment? Are we using the EVO custom sets, or are we just choosing anything? Does your character have to be customized? If a player loses, can they counterpick by turning off customs? How is stage choice determined? Can we have more guidelines about custom stages?
Also, would you need help with the bracket?

You can customize with equipment and moves, but both are not required Yes, you must have at least one thing customized even if you change just one move. No You choose one of your custom stages and then one of the two players stages will be randomly picked when the match starts What else did you need? I didn't want to hold player creativity back Yes

So it turns out that I've now created 75 custom stages, but 90% of them are just pixel art. The saddest part is, I think Just is right. At least it's cool pixel art...mostly.

Oh right...
I'll have to create some stages...
Sm4sh's stage builder sucks to be honest. I did and awesome recreation of N64 Goldeneye Cradle stage, I can't recreate it in SMash 4

It would be nice if I could make my stage hazards and stage gimmicks instead of having to pick set ones. I made a level that's supposed to be a spaceship battle, which works pretty well with the cannons, but I wanted to make everything floaty and gravity less.

Compared to Brawl's Stage Creator, Smash 4's has a much higher learning curve but more creative potential IMO. I enjoyed this Stage Creator way more than just placing blocks in Brawl. It'd be nice to create your own stage hazards/gimmicks or pick from a larger list, but I think that's hoping for a bit too much. The ability to create any shape platform is enough for me.

Well, I've got three stages made and ready! Anyone want to help test them out?

That... Wasn't fun at all. All those stages had at least 2 Caves of Life, required you to navigate to your opponent, are easy to camp on, and 2 of the stages had ridiculously close Blast Zones at a certain location. I like Custom Stages, but I really don't like them for tournament play... At the very least... They were creative, I think.

I guess I can understand why you didn't like any of them. They weren't made to play in a competition style, they're just made to have fun on.

Even accounting for that, I honestly didn't enjoy the stages. The one I probably enjoyed the most was the first one we played, without the lava it would have been a fine stage. The one with the volcano background felt conflicting to me. You had these areas where it's nearly impossible to die, but then you have cannons shooting towards lava and the top area which allows for easy ceiling KOs. The space stage was probably the least enjoyable to me. The cannons serve no good purpose whatsoever, the asteroid is awkwardly shaped and uncomfortable to fight on, and the random FD-like platform in the top left felt out of place. This is just my honest opinion.

Well, none of them are made for one vs one battles. Well, maybe the one with the lava across the bottom. I don't honestly think getting rid of that would do anything though. The volcano stage wasn't made correctly. It honestly didn't have combat in mind. It was meant to be more of a maze, but I quickly ran out of placeable stuff. The top wasn't supposed to be accessible. The space stage is pretty fun in my opinion. Again, the top left was not supposed to be accessible, but for some reason the stage builder limits you a lot on making walls and such.

Lava across the bottom: Getting rid of the lava would make the stage so better. The lava just makes the stage very awkward for recovery purposes and prevents meteor smashing. Volcano: Wasn't made with combat in mind? Intended to be a maze? Wasn't made correctly? Then why'd you tell me to test it out? Space: I don't see how anybody could have fun on the space stage. It's incredibly cramped, edgeguarding in near impossible, the cannons do nothing except waste people's time, and it's incredibly easy to camp on, as you saw me do multiple times. Also, due to the potential for large stages, I'd like to advocate an 8 minute time limit so that people don't just camp or wait on other ends of a stage, and to keep the tournament moving.
