The forest is pretty calm today. The warm sunlight filters through the treetops and the leaves below you crunch as you walk. Pretty typical in fall though. Continuing along the path, Hurain stops suddenly from walking. "Huh? Why did you STAAAA!" Gerand, not paying attention and asking his question, continues on forward only to be snagged by a mysterious vine and held up high in the air.
"Tangleroses. Good luck, you two! I want to see how you do in this fight without my help! Remember to exploit elemental weaknesses when you can."

Jonathan uses his whip to ensnare the Tanglerose and pulls it forward as Frostoise uses the momentum from the grab with his Frozen Claw for extra damage. The effectiveness of his ice skill also helps and the Tanglerose is easily beaten. The last Tanglerose is defeated by Gerand and Spark. "Good work, you two. Don't forget to claim your rewards. You can gather useful items from defeated monsters." Hurain walks over the the dead plants and harvests both a Thorny Vine and White Petal. He hands the vine to Jonathan and the petal to Gerand. "These can be used to make important things at forges." With the battle over, the group moves on through the forest quietly without more monsters showing up for a while. Maybe now would be a good time to ask any questions you have.

"So, do we have any kind of central goal in mind as a guild other than just growing? No real reason why, I'm just curious."

"Well, I want us to grow stronger for now so we can do better things in the future. I want to be something like that knight guild. Hero's Sun. That might make you ask why not just join them, but they've got it all wrong. Hero's Sun focuses on only large pieces of the puzzle and the others don't get protection. You said you came from a small village, right Jonathan? I bet most of the time when you needed the help of Note Beasts, you had to ask a local Conductor or maybe an adventurer nearby. Hero's Sun protects large cities, but they don't have anyone covering the small places. Those little farm towns or blacksmithing towns are important though. If we lost them to bandits like the ones that attacked us, it would be seriously bad. Not to mention the people themselves. It's almost like they're trying to force everyone just to live in those big cities. I guess I can understand where they're coming from though. I doubt they have enough guards to keep everyone safe. What I want to do isn't just protect Harmonis, I want to help it prosper. I guess you could say there's another reason, but...I don't think we'll have to worry about it. Just something one of those old guys in the mountains said. Let's keep going. I think I see the town up ahead."

Jonathan and Gerand head out, followed along by Frostoise and Spark along with the new Note Beasts, Seraphoid and Gloom. Apparently Gerand is very skilled in accidentally summoning cloud monsters. Gloom just looks like a dark purple fog cloud. Gerand assures you it is his new Note Beast capable of fighting though. You all continue along until stopping along the road, spotting Tangleroses in hiding. It seems recording them in your compendium has made it easier to avoid ambushed by this type of monster seeing as you remember it and it's offensive habits. With this knowledge you can either skip over the enemies in this area entirely or go ahead and fight for materials and experience.
(When you have recorded an area and the enemies within it, you may skip the battles to move around faster. This is just one of the many benefits to your compendium.)

Hmm... That's actually a tough decision without knowing how steep of a difficulty curve this game has, but I think I'm just going to skip them.

Your team heads out into the forest, taking the eastern path from the base camp. Lawrence waves as you all set off. He's likely keeping watch of the base until Hurain gets back. Anyway, you all continue along as Gerand looks around at the plants, keeping a look out for Tanglerose. Since all players have fully explored the Notewood Forest, you can activate fast travel to skip to the fields and avoid any battles, would you like to do that?

Sure, keep moving. No time to mess around with Tangleroses.
