Description: An RP based on the Waking Dream CYOA running on CYOA-Verse. Ironically enough, WD was based on this RP, which ended up cancelled due to lack of interest, but...
The RP is inspired by the SMT: Devil Survivor series, and run on a slightly-modified Call of Cthulhu ruleset. The RP has several similarities with Justice's Dating Sim. Players alternate between choosing actions and receiving results; however, results will be much more noticeably luck-based. There will be several NPCs the players can choose to interact with. Doing so will grant Fate points. While these won't necessarily translate into a romantic interest, they will give certain bonuses...
Character Sheet: Character creation in the CoC system is a bit complicated, so that's going to get its own post going through it step-by-step. For those intrepid go-getters who want to see what they'll be working on, you can find a fillable character sheet pdf here. Don't bother filling that thing out, though - it's just a preview.
Rules:
1. Characters can die. It probably won't happen very often, but very few CoC parties make it through an investigation without casualties. If this happens, you'll need to start a new characters - though they'll be leveled up enough to not die again immediately.
How does a character die? If their SIZ or CON scores ever drop to 0, they either blink out of existence or collapse immediately. Otherwise, a character whose HP drops to 0 will be knocked unconscious and wounded - if their HP drops to 0 again before dealing with the wound, they must receive First Aid immediately or they'll die. If a character is knocked unconscious in a dangerous place and no one is around to help, there is a strong chance they may die, wounded or not. Always investigate with a buddy! Of course, a random passing bystander may save them, but don't count on it...
2. Skill checks are made using a 1d100 roll. Typically, you want to score below your character's skill rating in the corresponding skill. For example, a character with a Biology score of 10 would need to roll a 1-10 to identify a strange animal. A roll of 5 (half the value) will grant a more accurate result. A roll of 1 always succeeds, a 100 always fails. All skills have a base value, and characters will gain skill points (in creation and during the investigation) to improve skills.
3. Characters will have 4 actions each day. They can investigate, meet with people, make preparations, or just rest and heal up.
4. Forming bonds with NPC characters will grant advantages based on the level. At Fate Level 1, you'll receive that character's contact information and be able to track them down whenever you want. At Levels 2 and 4, they'll teach you a bit about their profession, giving you a bonus to certain skills. At Level 3, they can be brought along on investigations. And at Level 5... Well, Level 5 can remain a surprise for now.
5. Sanity is not a static value. It can increase (up to a maximum) or decrease as the investigator investigates, rests, etc. Running into powerful demons, using magic, or seeing disturbing images will decrease sanity. Additionally, characters with lower sanity are more likely to take sanity damage from witnessing these events. However, as sanity decreases, knowledge of the arcane increases - you're more likely to get helpful information about demons and magic. If sanity drops to 0, the investigator will receive a permanent penalty (such as a phobia) and also be forced to take time to recover and lose a few actions.
