Swaltzer's surprised to find the elevator operator not awaiting him in his usual place just outside the penthouse. He's fired. So fired. Oh, wait, right. It's a holiday. Federal regulations and all that. Oh, it's a holiday! Swaltzer sheepishly returns to his apartment. Kayla's got her hand on the doorknob when a deep grunting sound behind her gives her pause. She almost forgot to feed her koala. She stops to take care of the adorable little bugger. While she's doing so, she suddenly remembers what today is. Right, no work. Well, a private investigator doesn't really get days off... But it's fine to take things a bit slower today. It could prove to be a bit difficult to follow up on leads. All Investigators

You arrive at the fairgrounds early in the afternoon. Francis tries to convince Mr. Paws-n-Claws to come along...
Francis' Animal Handling Check: 19/5 - Failure
But Mr. Paws-n-Claws is much more interested in napping.
The first thing you notice is the large crowd already gathered and enjoying the festivities. There's so much going on, it's a bit overwhelming...
- There's a portly man in a white dress-shirt with a black apron operating a small booth. He's spooning out big bowls of what looks like gumbo. It smells overwhelmingly spicy... An attractive, slight woman in a miniskirt is standing beside the booth, attracting customers and passing out some sort of... fliers, maybe?
- A dark-haired woman in a police uniform is patrolling the area. A woman with a fancy necklace and a notepad is following her around, and seems to be pestering her with questions.
- Two men are sitting at a table. A frowning, bespectacled man with brown hair is trying to enjoy a sandwich, but a darkly-tanned man with a wide-brimmed cap seems to be bothering him.
- A woman with a ponytail in a lab coat is wandering around, carrying a strange hand-held device. A man wearing an eyepatch and an Australian bush hat is following her suspiciously.
- A street magician complete with a top hat and cape has a small display set up, and he's performing all manner of tricks.
- An white-haired woman in a pale blue dress is playing a ring-toss game on the midway, but seems to be having trouble.
- A group of... historical reenactors, you assume? Several people are participating in a mock tournament, including a man with a broadswoard in full plate mail.
- (Spot Hidden) A black cat is wandering around the stalls, occasionally stopping to meow at people.
- (Spot Hidden, Strong Success) A small bit of movement on the edge of the nearby woods catches your attention.
- The main attraction, a large tent, is still being prepared at the heart of the fair. The show starts later tonight, and some staff members are turning people away. You could attempt to Sneak in or Fast Talk your way past, if you maybe wanted to speak with the performers before the show.
You should have time to investigate three of these things before evening... What's first?

But it's no use. It darts between stalls and through people's legs and under tables. At one point it disappears, only to reappear as it jumps off your head. The pursuit leaves your clothes and hair a bit disheveled. After a few minutes, it stops and sits to stare at you with striking, emerald eyes. Its fur is really clean, and it looks surprisingly healthy for a stray.
"Meow."

Yep, that's a cat noise. You're about to try to tackle it again when a man's voice cuts you off, asking if you want to buy something or not. You realize the cat's sitting in front of a stall selling sushi. Does it want some...? It's on the pricey side, but you could get a bit for $5.
Swaltzer Rickenduffle
You head to the midway and approach the young woman with the white hair. Her hair's about shoulder-length, and very... curly? Wispy? It somehow reminds you of a sheep. With great difficulty, you fight back the urge to reach out and pat her hair.
Swaltzer's Appraise check: 75/11 - Failure
Swaltzer's Credit Rating check: 82/85 - Success
She turns when she notices your approach, and you notice she has piercing grey eyes. Despite her hair's color, she also appears to be quite young, somewhere in her early 20's. Her dress looks a bit cheaply-made, but the simple cut's kind of nice. She gives you a soft smile as you ask what's wrong with the ring toss.
"Oh, I just really want to win that cute little doll, but I'm not very good at this game. And the way the guy keeps staring at me isn't helping... Though I'm sure I could do it if he weren't staring so intently."
The guy running the game does seem to be eyeing her a bit suspiciously.

(I'm not going to hand-hold stuff once the thing starts proper, but this is a tutorial thing... Feel free to take the not-obvious choices. Trying to steal or bargain for sushi, or offering to try to do the ring toss game yourself or buy the stuffed animal or just walk off...)

You converse with the fine merchant about the morality of gawking at attractive young ladies, albeit attractive young ladies wearing less-than-stylish outfits.
The merchant seems a bit flustered by your accusation. "Guh? I just... I mean... Er... It's my job to make sure no one's cheatin', you know?"
You shudder as the air seems to chill a bit. Odd, it's pretty warm out.
"I win!" the young woman announces cheerfully. She points at three rings hanging from the pegs.
"Er... Wait, I wasn't... paying... attention..." the carny mutters. Her face contorts into a subtle pout. "Eh, you didn't... cheat, right? Ah, whatever. Which prize do you want?"
"That adorable little stuffed sheep, please!" she says.
"Heh. Kinda looks like you," he says as he pulls out a small, shrink-wrapped sheep. "Right, well... Here ya go."
"Hehe, yay!" She beams brightly and clutches it to her chest. "Thanks for the help," she whispers. She gives you a peck on the cheek and skips merrily along her way, leaving you wondering what to do next...

You hand the merchant a five-dollar bill, and he hands you some suspect-looking sushi. The cat takes no time hopping up to snatch some of it from your hands, greedily snarfing it down. He stares at you a bit, and even lets you pet him. But as soon as you try to pick him up, he darts back and meows in protest. But he does seem to be interested in following you around. At least until you hand over the rest of that sushi. Or he gets a good chance to steal it. With your new cat-friend in tow, you decide to head over to...

You arrive at the park, a bit out of breath from rushing. You see much the same as the others who arrived earlier, though there's an odd young woman chasing the black cat and the white-haired woman has moved on to a ring-the-bell hammer game. There's also a man in an a snazzy suit at the gumbo stall. He looks rather out of place here.
You assume you should have just enough time to squeeze in 3 activities before people start gathering for the main show. Where to begin?

As you head to the gumbo stall, the young woman greets you with a friendly grin. She's wearing a classicly styled waitress outfit, complete with mini-apron and a small hat. She's got wavy, dark hair and a dazzling smile. "Well, hey there, handsome. I like the suit." She places a flier in your hand, advertising the Cajun-Creole Clamshack. You've heard the name, but never been yourself. It says if you bring the flier and a friend in the next week, you'll get 50% off your meal. Not a bad deal...
Hey, you didn't get to be this rich blowing money left and right.
The man at the stall looks down from his slightly elevated position. He's a big fellow - not fat so much as just large overall, though he clearly enjoys his craft quite a bit. He's wearing a pretty nice outfit underneath that apron. Come to think of it, the apron itself looks pretty high-quality. He gives you a toothy grin and a hearty laugh. "Well, howdy there. You wanna try a bowl o' ol' Louis' gumbo? Guaranteed to fix what ails ya for $5."
