Ignatius
You spend the morning studying the tome. You start to make some headway. By the afternoon, you're ready to try it out. You prick your finger as something to experiment on. You carefully follow the instructions, and...
Iggy's INTx5 check: 58/125 - Success
And you can feel the magic flowing through you. The small wound on your finger seals instantly. It... actually worked? So, humans can cast spells. You need a minute to process this.
Iggy's Cthulhu Mythos score increases by 1.
By the time you're done, it's early evening.
Iggy learned Dia! Dia Cost: 3MP Pass a POWx5 check to automatically succeed a First Aid check. If used for healing, heal 1d3+2.

Celandine giggles. "Pretty neat trick, huh? Play your cards right and maybe I'll teach you some day. Or maybe not, Bair-bear'd probably be pretty pissy if I started teaching people all our secrets."
She lowers herself to the ground, pretending to use you as an anchor.
"But really, want to join us for practice?"

"Well, what could go wrong when I'm with a professional? Sure."

Celandine's smile gets even wider. "Exactly! Alright, this is going to be fun! Hey, Jack, Emil - come over here and toss my friend around a bit!"
You spend some time being thrown around. Celandine starts by giving you some pointers about maximizing your airtime, and even teaches you to do a few tricks in midair. Not that you can do it jumping on your own power, but... Most importantly, you learn a lot about landing safely.
Swaltzer's Jump increased by 15.
As the group breaks for lunch, Celandine invites you to eat with her back in her trailer - or tries to. Halfway through the invitation, her raven-haired sister interrupts. "Excuse me. Could I speak with you in my office for a few minutes?" She looks pointedly at Celandine. "Alone?" she adds.
Celandine rolls her eyes and whispers in your ear. "You should probably get this over with... Don't let her ballbusting routine intimidate you, OK?"

"Ok."
Follow the sister to her office.

Bairbre leads you into a small, temporary office set up on the corner of the fairgrounds. It's fairly nicely furnished, all things considered. Though the stuffed bats hanging like macabre mobiles are a bit... off-putting. There's also a large portrait of a starry sky, with a flock of bats silhouetted against a large moon. She takes a seat behind a polished desk and offers you a chair. She folds her hands neatly on the table and glares. "Mr. Rickenduffle, we're both businessmen. I won't waste time on idle pleasantries. What are your intentions with my sister?"

"Considering she seems to really like me, she would be a good girlfriend. Never actually had one before. Business over pleasure, you know."

Start (reluctantly) working on the fireball spell, and if it gets too late get back to it the next morning.

Iggy
You spend the rest of the day studying the fire spell. You work until the sun goes down and you've got no light left to read by. You decide this is as good a time as any to try it out... You form some sticks into a small fire pit, take aim, and...
Iggy's INTx6 check: 94/90 - Failure
Nothing happens. You're actually kind of relieved, but you force yourself to try a few more times. Still nothing. You must be doing something wrong. You consider trying to find some light to go back and check the book, but... you're so tired...

Bairbre observes you silently. You can't read her expression at all. Finally she asks you another question. "I don't suppose you know anything about why the police were here the other day, do you?"

Ignatius
Ignatius sleeps.

Bairbre continues to stare at you for a few seconds. "Hm. It's nothing important. They were just looking for my aunt, and I was wondering if maybe Celly said anything to you."
She folds her hands on her desk. "Mr. Rickenduffle, my sister is a grown woman, and she's free to make her own decisions. But... I want you to understand that she is my only family. If I ever have cause to think you're manipulating her, coercing her, anything like that... we are going to have a problem. The type of problem that you can't solve by throwing any amount of money at it. Do you understand?" She stares at you, dark eyes shining with an eerie intensity.

"...Hmph." Bairbre turns her chair to the side a bit. "That's all I needed to say. I believe my sister's waiting for you in her trailer, so I won't keep you."

Swaltzer
You find Celandine's trailer easily enough. She's waiting for you just outside the door. She's got two plates of food put together from a small buffet set up for the performers. When she lets you in, you see it seems to be an entire mobile home. There's a cozy sitting area with a pair of cushioned benches, a bookshelf, and a small television. Down a narrow hallway, you can see a compact kitchen area, a bathroom, and a bedroom with two beds. There's also a storage closet that's slightly ajar - you can see various sets of clothing and outfits inside.
Celandine moves a stuffed sheep from one of the benches and places it on the other bench, next to a stuffed bat. She invites you to sit down, then takes a seat next to you. "It's nothing as fancy as that nice restaurant, but it's edible," she promises. "Bair-bear wasn't too hard on you, was she?"
