The Dating Sim

Somnis takes out the feathers she recently got along with a vial of poison. As she works on the new bow, she begins to explain everything to Buttons about this world and how she's investigating it with Lisa. As she does this, Dogachu manages to sit in Buttons' lap, which is actually hilarious considering his large size in the other world. "...And that's pretty much it. What do you think?"

"...I think I'm going insane."

"Nah, you're fine. Look, I finished what I was working on! What do you think?"

Toxic Featherbow
Effects: Deals ranged wind element damage, has small chance to poison enemies
Description: A bow made to resemble feathered wings. The main part is made up of wood and the sides have feathers on them. The arrows themselves are actually feathers dipped in poison.

Featherblast Fang
Effects: Deals area of effect wind element damage
Description: When Dogachu equips this, his fangs return to normal dog size, however, he gains the ability to breathe out a powerful burst of wind that damages multiple enemies at once. A few feathers can be seen floating around after the attack hits, but it's unknown where they come from.

"I...don't really get it."

"It's simple! You just craft it. These are new weapons. We need them to fight off those monsters. But um...it looks like you just have a little dog with you."

"...? Oh, yeah. I don't really know why."

"It's so cute."

"I am not cute, Somnis!"

"It's adorable when you get mad about how cute you are." Dogachu licks Buttons and he can be heard grumbling.

"Alright, whatever, I'm cute. Now how do we get out of here? I want to go home."

"Hmm...before I tell you how to get home, are you gonna join us in investigating this place?"

"...This isn't a question, is it?"

"Nope. Join us in our investigation!"

"..." He sighs. "Fine, I guess so. I don't have much better to do and I guess this place is pretty interesting."

"I saw a few ghosts while I-"

"I'm in."

"Yaaaay!" Somnis jumps up in the air with a big cheer. "Okay, this is the way home." She takes him over to the swirling portal and back into the real world.

Morning

Saturday September 24th, Sunny



Somnis wakes up in the morning and gives a big stretch and yawn. "Good morning, world!" She hops out of bed and looks outside. "It's a weekend! I can do anything todayyy!" She then gets a text on her phone. Two of them, actually.

From Katie: Hey, Somnis, it's been a while since we last hung out together. I never got to see your cute doggie! :3

From Lisa: Your Buttons friend is a little weird...He asked me about demons in another world. What do you think that means?

Somnis tells Katie she'll see her at the park with Dogachu.

From Katie: Cool! :3

"Come on, Dogachu! We're going to the park!"

"Bark!" Dogachu's tail wags happily.

Once Somnis and Dogachu reach the park, they see Katie waiting for them. She excitedly hops up and gives them a big wave. She then dives at Dogachu and snuggles him. "HE'S SO CUUUUTE! You are so shnuggly wuggly. Snuggle snuggle." She rolls around on the ground, hugging Dogachu.

"Um, Katie, you're going to get all dirty like that."

"Huh...?" Katie looks around and realizes she's on the floor. "How'd that happen?" She then gets up and brushes herself off. "Your dog is SO cute, Somnis! I love him! What's his name?"

"Dogachu."

"SOOOO CUUUUUTTTEE!" She's absolutely enamored with Dogachu.

"So, let's talk while we walk him. Do you want to hold the leash?"

"Sure! Aww, look at his little doggy paws. Such a cute puppy." The three start to head down the walkway together in the park, passing by various people walking.

"So, what's up? How have things been?"

"Oh, you mean just in general? Good, I guess."

"How did you do on the test?"

"The math one? Terrible."

"Terrible? Why?"

She sighs a little. "No real reason. I just got a bad grade. I guess I was a little distracted by something..."

"Oh, what?" Somnis shows some concern on her face and Katie notices she's worried before putting on a big smile.

"That cute guy who sits in front of me. What was his name? Avel? He's pretty cool, don't you think? Do you like anyone, Somnis?"

"Huh...!? Why the sudden question? U-Uh...no, not really. Nobody I can think of." Somnis blushes a little.

"Oooh, somebody has a crush~" Katie dances around and sings the word crush for an obnoxiously long amount of time.

"You should consider joining a musical club with lungs like those."

"Aww, thanks! Maybe I will! But only if you come with me!" The two laugh together. "We'll be like the clowns of the club!"

"Hey, my dancing skills are great!" Somnis sticks her tongue out at Katie.

The to continue to walk together and become closer.



Somnis and Katie continue to grow closer day by day. As their relationship develops, they reach relationship rank 2!

"Thanks for hanging out with me, Katie. It was fun!"

"Anytime! Your cute little doggy woggy can always call on me! I meant you! Yeah, you. But Dogachu can call me to hang out too."

Somnis waves as Katie walks off. Once they part ways, she takes Dogachu home and texts Raine, asking if she wants to hang out.

From Raine: Sure! I'd love to. :)

Somnis asks to meet her at the mall.

Afternoon



"Um...thanks for inviting me to shop with you, Somnis..." Raine looks at the ground and glances at Somnis' face. She then tries to focus on the things at the clothing store. "S-So...do you like any of these, Somnis...?"

"Oh yeah, most definitely! Some of these things are so cool. But they also have silly outfits like...disco afro ninja clothes...?"

"Um...yeah."

"Hey, there's a little bit of noise over there, isn't there? Let's go check it out."

"O-Oh, loud people...my favorite..." Raine follows, seeming slightly worried.

Somnis quickly dives behind a rack of clothes and rolls, peeking her head out around the side of the clothing rack. She quickly looks left and right before looking closer at the people being loud. It's a group of students from her school. Four of them. She recognizes two as the kids that recently moved into her class. Avel and Robbie. There's also a girl that she saw shopping here before. The other guy, she doesn't know that well. They're all trying on different outfits and having a good time, laughing. Robbie appears to be wearing a cowboy outfit currently. Somnis giggles a bit before Raine walks up behind her.

"Hey, um...shouldn't we get back to shopping? You...you didn't buy anything yet..."

"Oh, yeah." Somnis and Raine head off and shop together, enjoying their time together. Once they finish with their shopping, it becomes night. "Alright, I'm tired! Let's take a break." Somnis sits on a bench nearby the fountain in the mall. Raine takes a seat next to her.

"Thanks for spending time with me today. It helps get my mind off of some of the things that worry me a lot..."

"Worried? About what?"

"Oh, um...well, my mom."

"What's wrong with her?"

"She's in the hospital..."

"...Oh. I'm sorry about that."

"N-No, it's fine. She just...she's sick, so..."

"..."

"But she's been getting better! I...I think. I go and visit her most nights with my sister, Freya. We tell mom about our lives a lot. She likes to hear our stories since she can't leave the hospital."

"What about your dad?"

"I don't have a dad...he left a long time ago."

"Oh...I'm sorry. I don't mean to keep bringing these up."

She shakes her head. "No, it's okay. It's sad, but I'm used to it by now. After all, I have hope. One day mom will get better. I don't doubt it for a second."

"Huh...You almost sounded confident there for a moment."

"Wh-What is that supposed to mean...!?"

"I'm only teasing you. Come on, Raine. I'll walk you home since it's getting late."

"Thanks, Somnis..."

Somnis begins to grow closer and learn about Raine, taking one step forward with her. Somnis and Raine reach relationship rank 2!

After taking Raine home, Somnis head over to her own home.

Night



Somnis returns home and checks her phone messages. Lisa has been...yelling at her.

That's not good. I...really should apologize...

Somnis decides to go and apologize to Lisa in person and heads on over next door.

Lisa answers the door and looks at Somnis for a moment. "I thought it would be you." She crosses her arms and stands at her tensely.

"Listen...I'm really sorry, Lisa-"

"You just don't know when to quit!" Lisa throws her arms up in the air and begins to pace. "What IS your problem!? Can't you listen to me, even just once!? Seriously! You never listen to what I say! I'm just...I'm so mad you would do that to me!"

"But...Lisa, this-"

"Don't but Lissaaaaa ME! I am tired of this crap! You treat me like I'm just your little computer tech slave or whatever! What, just because I showed you the other world, you think you OWN it now? Do you know how this feels? I tried to share something with you. Something special to me..." She stops pacing and becomes quiet, looking at the ground. "Then...then you do this. So I don't get it." Her eyes appear to be a bit watery. "Are we friends or not? Because I don't think you trust me enough to listen to me. And I thought friends trusted each other. And...I guess I don't know. I've just never had someone...never let someone this close to me before..."

"..."

I better think about my response carefully...

Something comes into view. Fire...? There's smoke everywhere. Somnis can hear screaming. She's standing on top of what seems to be a giant tree. The black and white forest below is on fire. Little humanoid creatures made of wood and leaves run around, screaming in terror. A man stands in front of what appears to be a giant dragon.

"WHAT HAVE YOU DONE...?"

"Exactly what I came here to do. Take what I need and kill anyone that gets in the way. That's the mission. That was my plan all along. After all, you're all just monsters that are in the way. Nobody cares if you die."

"NO...YOU ARE THE MONSTERS. MY PEOPLE TRUSTED YOU. AND YOU REPAYED THAT TRUST WITH DEATH." The dragon looks at the human, with building rage. "GET OUT OF HERE! LEAVE THIS SACRED PLACE! HUMANS ARE NO LONGER WELCOME HERE! ANY HUMAN SHALL RECEIVE A SWIFT PUNISHMENT OF DEATH! NOW GO. TELL THE OTHERS. TELL ALL OF YOUR PEOPLE NEVER TO RETURN! I AM BALAR, THE GUARDIAN OF THIS FOREST AND THE LIFE WITHIN IT. YOU WILL NEVER RETURN TO THIS PLACE!" The human doesn't move.

"Heheh...HA! You think I'm scared of you? You're just like every other monster here! With my Soul Key, you'll die without a contest!"

"YOU FOOLISH HUMAN. I TRIED TO LET YOU LIVE. BUT YOU GIVE ME NO CHOICE. YOU DIE WHERE YOU STAND TODAY!!!" Balar roars and the entire tree shakes ferociously as Somnis trips and falls off the edge.

Morning

Sunday September 25th, Sunny



"AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" Somnis wakes up, flailing in her bed. "Oh. It was just a nightmare. I'm safe." She looks at her phone. It seems like she got a new message.

From Lisa: Hey, Somnis, I got some weird readings on the other world last night. We should really check it out. They came from Coconut Island.

Maybe I should get everyone together to go to the other world tonight...

"That little archer plush is cute. Where'd you get it?"

"Oh? This thing? It was a gift from my dad. He's uh...actually a video game character. He's part of a game where you can be fourteen different people and they all travel between these different dimensions and fight monsters. It's pretty cool."

"Oh, you wanna play it together?"

"I didn't know you liked dungeon crawlers."

"Oh, I like any game. As long as I can play it with someone I like."

"Well, I guess I'll set it up then. We can play for a while." Lisa gets the game set up. "I'll just go ahead with the obvious choice I'd make with 14."

"Oh, umm...I guess 7 looks cool."

"Yeah, she's kind of a bad ass."

"So, uh...how do you play this again?"

"Well, that button you just pressed is the jump button. Annnd that was the pause button. And now you've sent us back to the title screen."

"Sorry! I don't know how this works..."

"Here, it's not so bad. I'll teach you." The two spend a while playing the game together and Somnis enjoys playing it with Lisa.

"Whew, that was a lot of haaarrrd work."

"Somnis, that was only the first boss. And it took you over an hour to beat."

"H-Hey, I didn't do THAT bad!"

"You died and sent us back to the beginning of the level..."

"Well, I guess I did do THAT..."

"But, at least you beat it. I'm glad you're at least trying to take in interest in the things I like too. Maybe next time you should teach me something you like. That's what friends do, right?"

"Yeah! Of course! You know, it's really cool having you as my friend. I was worried I wouldn't get any after I moved here. Everyone thought I was weird." Somnis flops over on Lisa's bed. "Hey...Lisa? What do you think of me, as a friend?"

"I think you're a very good friend. Kind of a weirdo. But...I don't think I'd ask for any friend other than you."

"...That's good to hear. You aren't mad at me anymore...are you?"

"Nah. I don't need to be mad at you. We're friends. No need to question that any further, right? I know you'd never betray me. Deep down in my heart."

"That...means a lot to me."

Somnis and Lisa continue to explore their friendship further, strengthening their bond. Lisa reached relationship rank 5!

Somnis' phone rings. "Huh? Hold on, let me check out what it is."

"Hello?"

"Who's this?"

"I'm that girl you called the other night. I wanted to speak with you about something."

"Umm..."

A.) "What is it?"
B.) "Uh, sorry, I can't. I have to go shopping."
C.) "Sorry, I'm busy studying right now."
D.) "I'm hanging out with a friend. Sorry!"
E.) "Please go away."

"No, why do you ask?"

"Well, I'm looking into it a bit is all. Just a little curious."

"Don't you think that's something the police should handle?"

"I dunno. They haven't made much progress on it."

"Well, sorry I couldn't help."

"No, it's fine. I'll just find out myself."

"...You might want to be careful."

"...Why?"

"It just might be dangerous looking for a criminal. That's all."

"Why would you be concerned? You don't even know me. Whatever. Thanks for your help and all." The mysterious girl hangs up.

"...Hmm. I wonder what that was all about."

Lisa speaks up while sitting on her bed. "That...didn't sound good. She might be in trouble. If that group finds her...well, I don't know. It could be dangerous."

"I know, but what do we do about it?"

"I'll start looking into who that girl is. Here, give me her phone number. I'll start asking around." Somnis hands Lisa her paper. "I should have results soon enough."

"Well, I guess I'll let you get back to your work. I should probably head home. See you tonight."

Afternoon

Somnis returns home and her mother greets her. She's sorting through some papers. It looks like she took work home with her again. "You've been working non stop on this case, haven't you?"

"Well it's a hard one to crack. There aren't a lot of clues. I checked the files on it, but they were all deleted for some reason. It seems like I've been set up to fail this case on purpose..."

"I'm sure that's not it."

"Yeah, probably not. That's just one of those weird conspiracy type things. I should focus on the facts I have in front of me. But what does a college professor, a scientist, and a high school kid have that link them together...?"

"It's probably in those deleted files."

"I thought it might be linked to work since the professor and scientist used to work together, but that kid has nothing to do with anything."

"I'm sure you'll figure it out."

"Oh, that reminds me, make sure you start bringing Dogachu with you when you go places. And pepper spray. Lots and lots of pepper spray. And if you need, I can get you a gun to-"

"Mom, I'll be just fine bringing Dogachu with me. He's very scary and protective when he wants to be." Dogachu pants and wags his tail, standing next to Somnis.

"Alright. Just don't talk to mysterious strangers or sneak out of the house in the middle of the night to go to sketchy places."

"Of course! I'd never!"

That's literally what I'm doing almost every night...

Somnis gets something to drink from the fridge and check her phone. No new messages.

I guess I'm free to do what I want until tonight.

Somnis stands up in front of the party, in the center of the battlefield. She then starts to dance in the same fashion she did during the festival. "Somnis? What are you doing!?" Lisa makes a motion with her hands, creating a barrier around Somnis as she dances.

"What exactly are ye tryin' te do?" Galleon hits the barrier with his sword, shattering it apart and doing weak damage to Somnis. It seems the attack barely scratched her.

Dogachu howls, raising his allies' attack while Buttons places his plush on the ground. It comes to life and jumps at one of the Skeletal Pirates, chomping it until it becomes a pile of bones. The plush then returns to Buttons and becomes a normal plush again. The remaining Skeletal Pirate goes for a basic shot, doing a little damage to Buttons. Somnis finishes her dance and then pushes the button on her helmet to reveal her face and move the visor out of the way.

"My name is Somnis." Memory flashes in Galleon's eyes and he seems less willing to fight. Galleon's attack has decreased!

Somnis creates a healing light around herself while Lisa creates a holo barrier around the party. Buttons and Dogachu land some basic attacks on the Skeletal Pirates, taking two of them down. The two left attempt to swing back at them, but miss. Galleon then takes a couple of steps back and holds his sword in the air. A flash of light comes from it and water begins to move violently around the ship. A giant wave washes over the ship, dealing heavy damage to the entire party. Somnis and Dogachu manage to minimize damage, keeping about half their health. Lisa seems a bit more damaged, but is still in decent enough shape. Buttons appears to be just barely holding on from the attack.

"Galleon...I really don't want to fight you. I had fun at the festival. We don't want to hurt you or anyone else here. I know that bad stuff happened because of humans in the past and humans are the ones that did it, but you can't blame every human you meet! If you just focus on revenge, then that's all there will ever be! It's like...being a Guardian. You can't protect this world with hate. You can only do it with love..."

Galleon appears to be incapable of responding. He can't look Somnis in the eyes. His attack and defense are lowered drastically. The Skeletal Pirates around him look confused.
