"Go on ahead over to the portal. I'll be there soon. I want to finish up with something on my own. Here, take Dogachu with you too." Somnis then heads over toward the direction Galleon left in.
She eventually finds him standing on that large rock that Lisa was on earlier. He sits alone, quietly, while watching the sun slowly rise. Somnis watches behind him as he takes out what appears to be a heart locket and opens it. "...I wish ye could be here, Sara..."
Somnis slowly gets closer to Galleon. "Um..." He looks back, surprised a moment, before smiling.
"Ah, ye're back, are ye?"
"Yes. I wanted to know, Galleon..." Somnis stands a moment, thinking. "...Can I become a Guardian too?"
He looks surprised at the question at first, but then answers. "Well, why would ye want to do that?"
"Well, Guardians seem like they're really nice. They seem like they're heroes. They protect us all, right? I want to protect everyone too."
"...Ye definitely have the heart of a Guardian." Galleon walks over to Somnis and then bends down to talk to her. "Maybe one day, ye can grow into a Guardian yerself. I see a pure heart in ye. I can tell great things will come from ye one day." He then stands up and looks out at the water. "Ye remind me of her, you know? Of me wife, Sara. Ye both have that special somethin'. It's a special light. Ye both have hope. Never lose that hope, alright?" Somnis nods. "What did ye say yer name was?"
"Somnis."
"It be a beautiful name. Somnis. I won't forget it." He begins to walk off. "Remember, Somnis, the key to becomin' a Guardian is love. Never forget that."
"I won't! Bye, Galleon!" She waves to him and he waves back.
Once Somnis returned home that night, she fell asleep almost immediately. It was an exhausting two days without much sleep.
Thursday September 22nd, Sunny
Morning
Somnis heads off to school and has normal classes, spending her lunch time with Lisa. The two talk about their adventure to the other world in the past couple of nights and how eventful it was. Once classes are over, Somnis gathers her things together. That big test is tomorrow. She's feeling like she's pretty prepared for it. But a little more preparation couldn't hurt. Then again, there are other ways to spend her time...

Somnis calls up Lisa on her phone. "Hey, Lisa, do you want to study together for the test?"
"Sure."
"Great! Come on over to my house then. It should be fun!" Somnis hangs up the phone and heads on home.
Once she gets there, Lisa's already waiting. "I guess I got here early, huh?" Somnis opens the door and both her and Lisa head into the living room, taking out their books and things.
"Alright, let's get to work." The two study carefully with Dogachu helping out at some points.

After a while, Somnis' mom comes inside through the door. "Oh, Somnis, you have someone over?"
Lisa waves from the couch. "Hello, Mrs. Hope."
"It's nice to see that you and Lisa are getting along well. I was worried you might have a hard time making new friends here." She begins to unload groceries into the kitchen while Somnis and Lisa finish their studying. Once Somnis' mom finishes cooking, they all enjoy having dinner together.
Night
Somnis stands and then stretches. "Whew, that was good. Thanks mom."
Lisa continues to sit and just watches Somnis while Dogachu attempts to crawl in her lap and eat off the table.

"Hey, Lisa, I've got a question. Can you help me with something upstairs?"
"Sure." The two head upstairs to Somnis' room. "What is it?"
"I have a question about our investigation of the other world. I didn't want mom to hear. So, do you think we can have more people join us...?"
"More people...? Why would you want more people?"
"Well, I have a friend. His name is Buttons. I think he'd be really helpful in our investigation. It can't hurt to have more of us, right?"
"Out of the question."
"Whaaaaat?"
"You can't bring random people along, Somnis. This is supposed to be a secret. Anyone we involve will be in serious danger. It's not a game."
"But I really think he could help us. He's super smart and knows a lot about mysterious ghosty things. He's not afraid of anything either. Well, except maybe me."
"I won't allow it. You can't just drag him in. And even if you ask him, what if he says no? We can't blow our cover."
"I'll just play it off like I'm crazy. Everyone thinks that already anyway."
"I don't know. I'm not convinced. More numbers would be nice and he seems capable from what you say, but it's simply not something we can do."
"...Alright, fine." Somnis drops the subject for the moment and both her and Lisa enjoy the night together. After Lisa heads home, Somnis looks at Dogachu. "Are you thinking what I'm thinking?"
"Bark!" Dogachu's tail is wagging.

That's right! Time for bed! Let's go snuggle!" Somnis picks up Dogachu and flops in bed with him. As she snuggles her dog, she drifts into peaceful sleep...

There's a battle going on!
"He will be much happier here. Now nobody can hurt him. Humans are so very cruel. This one is special though. He's so kind. He doesn't even fight back when the mean humans try to hurt him. I'll keep him safe. Safe from you all. I must purge the humans of this place before they hurt us too! I am the Merciful Bloom, Solaria. As the protector of the Sun Soul, I will destroy the humans!" Solaria stands over a group of humans as large flowers begin to grow around her. Her soldiers come running in as well. You notice what looks like Fox being protected by Solaria from the group of humans standing before her.
The humans open fire on Solaria, one using a gun and the other using a gunblade. One of them rides on a scooter that moves surprisingly fast. It must be modified from the Soul Keys. He hits Solaria with a newspaper, which Somnis admits to herself, is odd. Solaria's giant flower gathers light and then shoots multiple beams of light throughout the battlefield, but one of the humans runs in, creating shields on her arms to block the attack. Another humans calls forth a rainstorm on the battlefield. The humans work together to take out Solaria's soldiers and then advance towards her. Two humans with guns shoot at Solaria while the one wielding a gunblade rides along her ally's scooter and performs a slashing and shooting combo before kicking off of Solaria. The human with the shields runs in to continue blocking attacks, but Solaria unleashes one of her strongest moves. She summons up a storm of razor sharp petals, completely swarming her in a tornado of them. The shield human is blasted out of the storm, losing her weapons as her armor shatters to reveal normal clothing underneath and her hair changes color. A broken Soul Key is launched out with her as well.
The humans can be seen shouting at Solaria, but you cannot really understand what they're saying. The one with the gunblade starts running toward Solaria, ready to land the final strike. As she does this, Somnis just barely gets a glimpse of her face through her pink visor. It's the ninja girl from school! As she swings her blade at Solaria, everything suddenly goes black.
Morning
"...Was that dream real? That must have been the evil group. They were going after Fox...? But why? He seemed to be connected to that world somehow. But he's safe now. Did they kill that Solaria person? Maybe she survived after that attack and fought them off..." Somnis realizes she's sitting in the bed and talking to herself. "...OH, I HAVE A TEST TODAY! I CAN'T BE LATE!" She runs off toward the school in a hurry.
Somnis takes the test one step at a time, going through it carefully. She feels like she actually understands some of this stuff! She continues along until finishing her paper. Once class is over, the results are in on the tests.
Somnis got a good grade!
"Nice! I didn't fail!" Somnis looks happy, but notices the ninja girl in her class begin to break down in tears, sobbing. Somnis considers doing something, but another group of students handles it first, talking to the girl. "...She must have gotten a bad grade." Somnis gathers her things together and gets ready for the afternoon. There's an announcement that Computer Club is canceled due to someone downloading a virus onto every computer they have.

Somnis heads over to the Occult Club and attends one of the meetings. It seems today they were out studying the graveyard in town today. Nothing happened, but it was a fun and spooky adventure.

Somnis and Buttons become a little closer over the experience, helping to search the graveyard together for secrets on recent ghost sightings in the town. Once they finish for the day, Somnis gathers her things and notices Buttons is still here while the others left. "Now might be a good chance to ask..."

"Hey, Buttons, meet me here at midnight, okay? I hear there's a portal to the underworld here. Like, ghosts and demons and stuff. Cool, right?"
"Hmm. Sounds interesting. Alright, I'll see you here at midnight." Buttons heads off for now.
"Alright. Now to figure out what to do until midnight..."

"Hey, wait, Buttons!" Somnis chases after him. "Um...while we wait, did you want to go to the mall with me? Lisa's going too."
"Well...I was going to do a few things, but I guess I can put that aside. Just for you though." Buttons glances to the side and Somnis is pretty sure she saw him blush, but he pulls the hood over his face slowly. "Let's go."
Somnis heads out with Lisa and Buttons to the mall. "So, this is your friend? Buttons?"
"Yup. Isn't he super smart and cool!?"
"He's a little...short."
"Hey! That's rude! I'm not that short."
"Somnis is taller than you."
"Grrr..."
"HEY, LOOK, GUYS, A PET STORE. I want to go look for otters." Somnis quickly drags her friends into the store and they look around at the animals together. "See any cute animals?"
"Not really." Lisa just looks around at the animals, somewhat bored. "These are all small animals. I'm not really interested. They don't do much..."
"Aww, look at this one! Oh, and this one! And this one! And th-AH! Somnis! I...didn't see you there."
"We walked into the store together."
"...I guess I get a little lost in the cuteness of animals sometimes...But I'm still cool, right? I'm still the scary Buttons you know and love! The terror of the school! Everyone fears me and my curses!" Buttons stands dramatically on a table.
A.) "AHH! Oh, you scared me."
B.) "Please, spare me, curse master!"
C.) "Butts...standing on tables is rude."
D.) "Nope. Nobody's scared of you."
E.) "Aww, you're so cute. You like the little bunny."

"Nah, you're a big teddy bear." Somnis hugs Buttons as he struggles.
"Stop it! No! I am not adorable! AAAAAGGGGHHHH!"
"You're surprisingly soft..."
"Can't...breathe..."
Lisa comes walking into the back of the store. "Wha-SOMNIS! This is just like that other time! Stop trying to make out with your boyfriend in public places!"
"B-Boyfriend!?" Buttons looks shocked and then shakes his head. "You got it all wrong."
"Yeah, he's not my boyfriend...yet." Somnis whispers that last part to herself.
"Did you say something?"
"No, of course not."
"Alright, lovebirds, let's leave the store. You're causing a scene."
"Ow, Lisa! Don't pull on me so hard..." Somnis and Buttons are dragged out of the shop by Lisa. The group then spends the rest of their night together, shopping. They all become a little closer from the experience as well. Finally, Lisa heads home and both Somnis and Buttons head off to the graveyard together. Somnis makes sure to bring Dogachu with them as well.
Midnight
Somnis stands in the graveyard with Buttons and Dogachu at her side. Good thing she managed to snatch one of Lisa's spare Soul Keys while she wasn't looking! She won't notice. Hopefully. As they stand there, the portal appears as usual. It swirls around and Somnis turns to Buttons. "Pretty cool, right?"
"Hm...? I don't see anything."
"...? You don't see the portal? It's literally right there." She points to it, but Buttons just tilts his head slightly in confusion. "Right...THERE!" She grabs Buttons' shoulder and points at the portal. Buttons' eyes then suddenly widen with shock as he notices the portal.
"WHA!? WHERE DID THAT COME FROM!?"
"Hmm...you didn't see it until I touched you...? Lisa did say something about only special people seeing these portals. I think..."
"That thing really leads to the underworld?"
"Well, more or less. Come on, let's go in!"
"In...th-there...?"
"You aren't scared, are you?"
"HAHAHAOFCOURSEIMNOTSCAREDHAHAHA! I'LL SHOW YOU HOW NOT SCARED I AM!" He goes charging headfirst through the portal past Somnis.
"I knew he'd love it!" She then looks at the spare key in her hand. "...HE FORGOT HIS KEY! BUTTONS, WAIT!" She runs into the portal, after him.
Poison Bog
Somnis appears through the portal and frantically looks around the area. Buttons doesn't appear to be here...
"This is really bad." She takes out her Soul Key and activates it, taking her other world form. Her thief outfit appears on her and her staff appears in her hands. Dogachu jumps through the portal and lands next to her, taking out his key and changing to his wolf form with his bandanna. "Alright...where is he...? This is really really bad..."

"Alright, Dogachu, I want you to sniff around. See if you can find anything that might lead us to Buttons in the area." Dogachu nods and Somnis takes out her crafting supplies from her Soul Key. "Now to make some armor...let's see how this works."
Sea Knight Armor
Materials: Coral x10
Effects: Boosted Physical Defense, Water Resistance
Appearance: Somnis is completely outfitted in shiny, pink armor. The helmet has a button on the side to open and close the visor covering her face. The shiny, pink suit can also allow Somnis to safely explore underwater. The sleek sea knight design keeps her from losing any speed while providing extra protection.
Sea Beast Armor
Materials: Coral x10
Effects: Boosted Physical Defense, Water Resistance
Appearance: Dogachu wears shiny, pink armor on his back, matches with the shiny, pink boots. His stomach is protected by a shiny, pink chest plate designed specifically for him. He also has a little helmet to wear on his head. Though, the helmet isn't that little. Dogachu just looks cute in this armor. You know, despite the fact he's a giant and intimidating wolf.
Somnis looks pleased with her work and nods while stepping back. Dogachu returns to Somnis, but doesn't appear to have much of a lead on where Buttons is. Somnis sighs and then has both herself and Dogachu equip their new armor while heading out on the ground to check for Buttons. As they walk along, sounds of moaning echo through the area. A couple of Living Corpses lurch toward her from the fog. Somnis takes out her staff and prepares for battle!

Somnis uses her Flash ability, blinding the zombies she's in battle with while Dogachu uses Hunting Howl, making his allies feel encouraged and stronger. The zombies go in for attacks on Somnis and Dogachu, but only one of the zombies manage to scratch Somnis. She barely takes any damage thanks to her armor. Somnis then goes in for a Smite, taking down one of the zombies with one hit. Dogachu uses Shred, taking out another zombie. The last one blindly swings its arms around before Somnis takes it down with one last Smite.

Somnis and Dogachu gather the items from the enemies and then prepare to move onward. It looks like there's a fork in the road here. Somnis can't see what lies at the end of either path thanks to the fog...

Dogachu sniffs around, checking for Buttons' scent. But...he doesn't seem to pick up on anything. The two decide to split up and take the different routes. As Somnis walks along, she finds that the road she took begins to get surrounded by dead trees. The fog doesn't appear to be letting up either. She feels a cold chill go down her spine and hears something whisper into her ear. "Go back to where you came..." Somnis takes out her weapon, ready for battle, as three half transparent women appear, wearing long, white dresses. They let out a horrible screech and Somnis realizes she's fighting a bunch of Banshees.

Somnis runs from the battle, dashing away down the path without looking back. The Banshees all float there and wonder where the human went. As Somnis runs down the pathway, she finds herself reaching a large pond of poison sludge. It looks like it covers most of the area ahead.
I can't go in there! It's literally poison sludge! But I have to save Buttons somehow...
Meanwhile, Dogachu howls at the gate angrily before trying to jump over it. He ends up smashing his head on the fence, but he shakes it off. He then continues to try pushing the gate, ramming his side into it. It doesn't seem to be working. He looks at the lock and chews on it, continually biting until it happens to break. With the lock off, Dogachu rams into the gate again and opens it with a loud clatter and crash. He seems pleased with himself. He then notices that a few enemy monsters were annoyed with all the noise he was making. A group of five White Crows swoop down toward him and prepare to battle.

Somnis shouts Buttons' name as loud as she can. "BUUUUTTTTTOOOOONNNNSSSS!" As her shout echoes throughout, she hears someone yell back.
"Somnis!? Is that you!? Help! I'm stuck! And lost!"
Somnis looks around and shuts her eyes tightly, flapping her wings. As she attempts to turn into a bird, she opens her eyes and notices how ridiculous she looks. "...Well, I guess it was worth the try...? I'm glad nobody saw that." She then causes a bright flash, trying to dispel the fog. It doesn't look like the fog goes anywhere, but Somnis hears Buttons yell to her.
"What was that bright flash?"
Somnis then has an idea. "Just follow the flashing light!" As she continues to emit flashes, she hears something moving from behind her. The sound of footsteps crunching leaves. Eventually, something comes up from behind and grabs her shoulder! She turns around and gasps, but notices it was only Buttons. "Buttons! Don't scare me like that! I hate you!" She then hugs him. "I'm so happy you aren't dead! You're one of the best people ever!" She then hears Dogachu howling in the distance. "That's not good. Dogachu is in trouble!"
"Your dog? You brought it here?"
"Dogachu is very strong. He is a valuable asset to the team."
Meanwhile, Dogachu tries to run from the birds into the mansion, but just hits his head on the door trying to open it. He looks and sees that he must turn a doorknob to open it. His biggest weakness...not having thumbs!

Dogachu runs away from the crows, into the forest. They continue to chase after him as he runs through barking and calling for Somnis' help. Eventually, the two meet at the crossroads with Dogachu tackling Somnis to the ground and then looking up at the flock of White Crows and whimpering. Oh my...
It seems that the number of birds has doubled as more joined in while Dogachu was running and barking. "Oh...crap." Somnis takes out the spare Soul Key and tosses it to Buttons. "Quick, take this. It's dangerous to go alone."
"WHAT IS THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN!?"
"IT'S JUST A REFERENCE. USE THE KEY."
"OKAY." Buttons pushes a button on the key and is suddenly surrounded in a mysterious power. His hoodie is replaced with a long, black, hooded robe. Underneath he wears what looks similar to clothes some sort of noble would wear with the frilly stuff on the front of the shirt. (I have no idea what ANY OF THAT IS CALLED.) Buttons is also holding a stuffed animal dog. It's really cute. As Somnis watches him change to other world form, she bursts into laughter.
"HA! You're all cute and you're holding a doggie and it's cute. HAHAHAA!"
"IS NOW REALLY THE TIME TO LAUGH AT ME!?" Buttons points out the cloud of birds.
"Oh...Oh yeah."
