Nora's quiet for a moment. "Well... I vehemently disagree with that last bit. The last thing she needs is to have to deal with things alone, and I intend to do whatever I can to help. I've been talking to her about all of this, of course. And I promised I'd help her find a new path forward. She needs something new, you know? She can't find herself again if she can't escape this giant shadow she's living under. She acts like her life is over before it's even begun, and that's... bloody depressing. She has so much potential, and could succeed at anything she set her mind to, and she still has so many years to find happiness... so for her to think her life's over when she hasn't even graduated high school? That's just too sad for me to ignore, especially when it's someone I like..."
She pauses. "I said I'd help her find a new job. Something where she can put that brilliant mind of hers to work. Clerical work, helping people. Something to get her moving again while she decides where she goes from here. And yeah, I could be having this conversation with her mother right now, ask her to pull some strings, use her contacts to get her a job outside of Vitcorp... But Alice wouldn't approve of that. She'd get quite mad at me if I did that. So, naturally, I thought you'd be my best bet. Help me find Alice a new job."

"Ha. Yeah. Alice would be pissed if you did that." Tom taps his head a few more times. "Something like the animal shelter or the food bank might work. I've got a few other ideas, too, but obviously the first concern is who's actually hiring. Even if Alice doesn't want to use her mom, there's others she can. Somnis is the head of the Volunteer club so she's got some contacts in organizations like those. I'd start with her. In the meantime, mentioning her mom gave me an idea... If Alice is struggling with feeling weak, her broken arm might be a blessing in disguise..." Tom takes out a small notebook and opens it up. It looks like some kind of schedule, written out in meticulous detail. He flips through it, checking a few entries. "...Just to clarify, by the way, when I say I don't think the two of us can help I mean the two of us in particular can't get at the heart of the issue of her feeling like the others don't need her... Still plenty we can do."

Tom taps a pen against the schedule. You notice it's filled with meetings, workouts (most scratched out), and something called cooking time. "Eh. Pardon my French, but she feels like she's busted her ass for a bunch of people that've now decided they don't need her and therefore don't give a shit about her. Which... is... Well, not a lot of people really... talk to Alice, y'know. Besides us and Mattea, which is mostly to fuck with her. And her ex sometimes. I guess she comes across as too intimidating or something. Like... she thinks the only people in her corner are the ones that were there from the start. Which is obviously untrue, she lost the election by one vote or something."

"It's a two-way street," Tom says. "We get her to talk to some people, and maybe we can get some others to approach her. I've got a few people in mind that'd help if they knew Alice was upset." He scribbles in the planner. "I'll also make a few changes to her mother's schedule to see if I can't get those two to spend a bit of time together. Maybe seeing her mom coping with the broken arm might help her remember people are human."

"Huh? Oh, yeah. Well, 'personal assistant.' For a few years now. Right outta middle school, basically," He makes a few changes to the schedule with one hand, eating with the other. When he's done, he reviews it and nods. "Alice should be free around then, so just gotta give her a little push to go give Miss Marin some help with this, and... Oh. Right." He sighs, then starts changing it again. "Elevators... almost forgot... OK, so that won't work, what about... shopping... maybe...?"

Tom double-checks a few things, finishes his sandwich, and throws back his drink. "Anyway, I've gotta run. Need to grab some stuff for the gardening club, then meet up with Alice to get her some homework stuff before heading to work. See ya Monday." He leaves $10 on the table, nods at the shop owner, and heads out.

Nora goes back to the shop to the hut to find it still closed. Just as she's turning to leave, Mareena comes skipping up with Floyd following close behind.
"Hell-o Nora," Mareena says. "How have you been? You've met Floyd. Though not like this, I don't believe? Floyd, this is Nora. Be careful of this one..."
