Leia just stares at Mareena, visibly confused.
"Huh... Thank you for your time, Mareena... Could we try this again sometime?
I'll try to do better."

"Certainly. In the meantime... THE GREAT MAREENA suggests you look practice by trying to read a few people, then going a step further and trying to guess what they'll do next, and what that will result in," Mareena says.

Nora, Aron
You proceed to the mall. A lot of students probably hang out here on the weekends, right? Maybe not... Well, they're probably just hanging out at the chili cook-off today. You take a look around to see if you can spot anyone that does look like a student...
There's a small, mousey girl with dirty blonde hair and glasses hanging around the electronics store. She's doubled over one of the display cases looking at drones. Looks like two in particular have caught her eye.
Another young-looking student, a guy with spiked red hair still wearing shorts despite the lowering temperatures, is standing around outside. It looks like he's thinking about going in to talk to her, but hesitating for some reason.
A lanky girl in sweatpants and greyish hair poking out of a hoodie is hanging around the arcade. She looks like she's trying to decide what to start with.
You get a glimpse of a trim, shorter girl with striking, platinum-blonde hair heading into the sporting goods store.
Wandering around the top floor, you find a small store labeled as a fortune telling hut... which you would not have guessed based on the cage of pidgeons prominently displayed in the window. A girl who might be a student is putting bird seed and changing the water inside. She's wearing a midriff-baringg top and short skirt, a neckerchief in her hair, no shoes, but plenty of shiny gold bangles and anklets to make up for the lack of other clothing. It looks like she's getting ready to open.
Aron also notices a rather attractive young woman in a fancy dress walking around looking only slightly less out of place than he is.
Nora notices another possible student with - what is going on with his hair?

Nora will walk around for a bit until the fortune teller's hut is open, then will put on her best smile and walk inside, her facade naturally clicking into place as a well oiled machine. "Hullo!" She calls out, letting herself sound more posh English than she usually does.

Nora
When Nora walks in, she finds the girl she saw feeding the birds earlier sitting on the edge of the table, waiting. "Ah, welcome, my eponymous friend! Your acting off the stage is almost as good as your singing." She crosses her legs, folds one arm and places the other hand on her chin, and cocks her head. "You have come earlier than expected... but, ah well. It is of little consequence. How may THE GREAT MAREENA be of assistance, hm?"

Nora gives an overly dramatic frown. "Oh dear me, I was hoping you wouldn't see through my performance *quite* so easily... But I suppose it can't be helped. I didn't recognize you from the auditions, so naturally you had me at an advantage."
She smiles and takes a seat. "Well, I do suppose I want to see just how great you are, hm? Fortune telling is a bit of a longtime hobby of mine, but if I'm being honest, I'm afraid it may just be that I have a rather special deck of cards instead of me having the gift... So, how about a special reading as a icebreaker? I would like your... professional opinion on whether my cards are special or plain old paper, and whether I have the gift or my own readings are just a matter of experience with a dash of luck. Depending on how things go, I have a more serious reading I may wish you to do."
Nora takes her card box out of her purse and holds it out to her.

Gabriel
You proceed to the mall. There are indeed many stores here, selling just about anything you'd need... Well, maybe lacking a few of the more specialized tools you'd need. While you're looking around, you notice there aren't many people your age around today. The few that are here really stand out.

A pair of girls are sitting at a table inside. One's wearing a midriff-baring top and short skirt, a neckerchief in her hair, no shoes, but plenty of shiny gold bangles and anklets to make up for the lack of other clothing. The other's wearing a fancy dress and high heels, even for a simple trip to the mall... The skimpily dressed one with the golden hair hops up and closes the door, flipping around a sign that says 'reading in progress.'
You spot someone you think might be a kindered spirit, as well. An older male student with a big beard and dread-like hair.
Nora
Mareena looks at the card box, then carefully observes Nora with her head tilted. "Ah, yes... What a strange string of coincidences. Ah, but we both know there are no such things, no? Now, then. THE GREAT MAREENA's speciality is augury, not artificing or psychometry... However... There are things that can be done." She takes the deck and walks over to a cabinet against the wall. "Whether these cards are magical or not... is not the issue you are interested in. In fact, you quite prefer not knowing. What you truly seek is to measure your own ability... and with that, THE GREAT MAREENA can assist."
Mareena takes a metal case out of a drawer, and opens it to reveal a different deck of cards. She swaps it with Nora's, returning hers to the drawer. "Let your mind separate from these cards. You may use THE GREAT MAREENA's equally great deck, if you must." She places the deck at the head of the table, alongside her crystal ball. She slides the chair out and offers it to Nora. "Come, take THE GREAT MAREENA's seat. You shall perform the reading. The Great Mareena is, of course, knowledgeable of her own fate. Therefore, we will be able to easily measure the accuracy of your predictions, no?"

Aron can't help but crane his neck back to get a second look at the blonde woman running into the sporting goods store. He'd never take in too many sights, but she's obviously the kinda gal who takes care of herself and Aron admires that! Still, he decides that the more pressing concern is the apparent plight of this red-haired gentleman.
"What's up, boss!" Aron asks in a rough, but not unpleasant voice as he lands a firm and rugged hand on the redhead's shoulder. "Guessing you're a student at Newvit High! Mind if I ask some questions?" He's got open, friendly body language, but casts an almost cunning glance over at the mousey girl as soon as the boy looks his way.

Guessing that the girl in the electronics store is near enough to his own age to attend the school, Gabriel sees this as a great chance to talk to another student with similar interests and learn a thing or two about the town and maybe some clubs at school he might be interested in. With that in mind, he heads into the electronics store, looking around near the entrance for a little while before drifting over to the drone case, where he intently reads the product notes to familiarize himself with that year's models.
"Hmm... Hey, which of these do you think have the best navigational controls and autopilot?"

"My, my, you are good... Alright, then. I'll give it a shot."
Nora takes the seat and takes THE GREAT MAREENA'S cards, shuffling them as she studies the girl, letting herself relax and her mind wander. A state of relaxed emptiness is always best for a blind reading. After a couple minutes, she places the deck down and draws three cards, placing them face down from left to right. She reveals the first card, and...
Nora almost seems to enter a trance, her eyes glazing over. "The Hanged Man, upright. Sacrifice, martyrdom, the path of spirituality... You see the world in a different way than others. And people have hated you for it before, and likely still do. After all, people fear the unknown- and you are...Whether I believe you have the true gift or not, I can clearly see you represent the unknown in the truest sense to most people who cross your path. But you have always understood what must be done, and are willing to do whatever it takes to ensure that the path you walk does not end in vain."
Nora takes a breath and reveals the present card. "The card of your present... The High Priestess, upright. The third pillar, the path between worlds, the goddess of magic, the mediator who sees the meaning betwixt all things... Ambition, control over oneself, inner knowledge, the archetype of the divine feminine- the woman that understands and holds the answer to the deep unknown, the world beneath the surface of our own. At present, you are the Gatekeeper. The one who keeps the way between open. The... Final Guardian. She who sits atop the scales. Your duty is your life, your entire being, and you embrace it with all your heart and soul. But there is... more that I can't see. Something else? Someone else? There are parts of you that are too dark for my light to shine through."
Still seemingly in a trance, Nora reveals the third and final card. "... Death. Change. Metamorphosis. Endings and beginnings. In your future there is change like no other. Tumultuous upheaval, an earthquake of fate, that will be brought about. None will remain unaffected, none will remain unscathed. The pillars destroyed, devoid of... soul. Devoid of... color. The way in between is lost. The... meaning is unclear. I cannot tell if you are the one who is destined to bring about this upheaval, or the one destined to stop it. But I see... a vast ocean of chaos. And a single light within... something you are looking for? This death... What is this...?"
Nora shakes her head wildly and rubs her eyes, taking a deep breath. Her eyes return to normal. "... Well now. Either I'm more of an accidental crackpot than I thought, or I just predicted the end of the world."

"Huh?" The kid turns to face Aron, almost leaning back to look up at him. "Oh, um, hi, Mister. I guess I can answer some questions. Are you... a new teacher or something?"
Gabriel
The girl jumps when Gabriel starts talking, then quickly shakes it off. "Well. Depends on how much you're willing to spend. The Maverick II's the top of the line right now in almost all categories. If you want a cheaper alternative, the new Wildgoose model's half the price but its specs are not all that much lower - the only problem is it can go into uncontrollable flat spins and crash in really specific circumstances..." She stops talking long enough to take a breath and adjust her glasses. "If you're willing to put in the work and know what you're doing, I'd recommend the Phantasmagoria as a base since the price isn't too bad and it's relatively easy to mod. But if you're a beginner just try the Bebop. It's good enough and won't set you back too much if you wreck it, and it's possible to hack the control system to add in a rudimentary fly-by-wire system."
Nora
"Interesting. You are not the first to predict an impending, encroaching end to the world, nor are you entirely incorrect. You will see the truth to your predictions sooner rather than later, I fear." Mareena smiles and tilts her head. "I will not bother going through the accuracy of each of your predictions and readings, but I will correct you on one point - it is not that your light is too weak to pierce my veil, but that it is overwhelmed by my own. I can say with some certainty that you do have a gift, a potential which will soon be drawn out. And soon, very soon, you shall come to truly believe it yourself. Nurture it through the connections you form with others, join their light to your own." She leans back in her seat.

"Oh, thanks! That's really helpful. I'm actually more interested in the sensors and software side of this, and what I could apply to my own machines. I've rigged up a few things that move well enough with manual control, but the automation is... well-...?"
Gabriel trails off for a while as he remembers the 'incident' that destroyed his last prototype after he decided to test the automation features. But rather than looking grim, he starts to have trouble containing his laughter.
"It's just pretty bad. I still need to replace some sensors I busted with the last failure. I just moved here, so I thought I'd see where I might be able to get some spare parts or tools in this town."

Nora half leans half slumps back in her seat, processing everything. She's silent for several moments before she responds, her words careful and deliberate, slower than usual.
"Well. Well now. Not quite sure how to respond to all this, I'm afraid. I'd look very foolish if this all turned out to be an elaborate prank or scam- and I do hate looking foolish- but I also can't deny I've noticed some... oddities around this town, why, practically since I arrived. Nor can I deny it's been a long held dream of mine to... have my beliefs in occult and magic be proven to not be mere childish fantasies, and that is something you could never have found out through normal means. I must, of course, temper my eagerness through scepticism and logic and intelligence. But if this is as real as you or me, and something truly magical is afoot... Why, I'd be very, very interested in learning how I might speed things along. I don't suppose you'd happen to have any more advice?"

Lisa shrugs. "Unless you're, like, making your own custom circuit boards you can get most of the stuff you'll need from here. Even then you could probably make do. If they don't have it in stock they can usually get most stuff within a day or two unless it's way esoteric. Now, if you need real custom work done on hardware, there's a decent chopshop down near the junkyard on the outskirts. And there's a place that does software about a block from the art museum downtown, though they're kinda slow. Usually faster to do it yourself if you have half a brain cell."
Nora
"The wheels of fate are already in motion, and you'll come to see your place in them sooner than you expect... ready or no." Mareena springs out of her seat, recovers her cards, and walks back to the drawers. "For now, continue to search for where you fit in." She trades her deck for Nora's, then opens a different drawer and rummages around in it. She pulls something out, then rejoins Nora, putting her cards on the table.
She places three cards down, two sideby side with the third above. "The Lovers," Mareena says before proceeding to flip the top card. "A choice is coming. Will you choose the path of Strength... or the path wrought by the deception of the Moon?" Mareena flips the last two cards, then leans in closer, an amused smile on her face. The lights of the room dim as she rests her chin in her hands. "Will you even be able to tell the difference...?"
She lets out a small, sinister chuckle and places a small tape on the table. "Watch this, but not until the morning light. Yes, things should become quite clear..."
