You throw away two of the contracts, keeping the one for Burt Firehand, then walk out. You read the contract properly, to get more information. The reward is decent... (I won't keep track of ressources, but I'll note everytime you get money and consider it as you being able to buy at least a few things.). Sounds like the guy was conveniently named by his parents, as he grew to use fire abilities. He has no Note Beast, but is considered to be the equivalent of a Level 5 Conductor. He was last seen going in the direction of Klaveburg... That's through Notewood Forest, then the Triangle Plains. Shouldn't be much of a hassle, but there's a lot of chances of you encountering monsters. Nothing you can't deal with of course.
You look around, noticing the fountain of the Grand Library's founder. Lawrence was it? Does the name of a dead man really matters though? There's a lot of people today. More than usual. You remember that today is the day they welcome new students... You went to that school yourself to get Ryder, but it's been a year now, exactly today.
The Forge, Inn and Interior Marketplace seem busy today.
You see the Grand Library in the distance, as well as the school. The back alleys could hold potential recruits if you don't want to leave alone. Or you could concentrate to search here amongst the mass of people.
You could also leave into the forest immediately.

You get out of the forest, dragging the deer with you. Some of the guards notice you and one of them approaches you. You know Raymond. With their armors, all guards look like each other, but he's always the one to help you. He's also easy to recognize thank to his Note Beast: a floating shield which is always following him around. He grabs one end of the Deer.
Raymond: "Not asking, I know you need help. Don't act tough on me. Now, we'll enter the marketplace from the back. No one in town wants to see someonet dragging a deer."
He leads the way so you cross as less people as possible. You make it to the butcher with no incident. He's a bulky man with big muscular arms. He could easily look scary, but his apron makes him look like a good guy. He has his brown hair hidden in his hat at all time, so none of it ends up in meat. His name is Rupert. He refuses to get any Note Beast though. He'd feel bad cooking animals in front of one... Even though Paul is on your shoulders right now.
Raymond: "You guys still need me in here?"
Rupert: "So... Chetwyn... What's the deal this time? Do I keep it all to myself?"

Raymond leaves, followed by his Note Beast.
Rupert starts doing his job on the door.
Rupert: "Hey... Chetwyn... If you're out of food I'm giving you at least 3 days worth of meat, my man. I'm not leaving you starving."
He still keeps the majority of the deer, but he give you back a bigger piece than you thought he would.
Rupert: "Now... If you're really desperate, I could do something with those pelts and give you more food."

You walk out of the butchery, Rupert saluting you. You look around and assume the tannery is the place with all the exposed bear skins. You walk inside and see a lot of animal trophies. Some are simply heads, others are the whole animal, preserved.
Behind the counter, a green-haired elf stands tall, visibly ready to take a customer. There's also an Halfling... Must be another employee. She looks bored to death, staring at her watch constantly, sometimes looking at a Note Beast in a corner of the shop.
The Note Beast looks like a wolf, but it's made out of gear. The creature is attentively looking at the three customers inside, including you.
If the elf has a Note Beast, it's nowhere to be seen.
