You slash Grumble, fueling the anger you got from Gilly. The rock Monster retaliates by swiping his tail to try to launch you into Gilly. You can see that you didn't budge, before waking up tied to a chair, next to the other two.
Tina and Grumble are sitting on the teacher's desk.
Tina: "Don't worry. I'll untie you. It's almost time for you to summon your first Note Beast. Can any of you fools tell me what was today's lesson?"
Gilly: "You're crazy!"
Tina: "Not false, but not closely related to your lesson.
Patrick: "Punching rocks is stupid?"
Tina: "Wrong... Any idea, Elegra?"
---Odette and Jessica---
Kalvin scratches his head, trying to look as if he isn't embarassed he was ignored.
Carlston: "Not bad, Odette, that is true. It wasn't really what I was asking though... Jessica is closer to the truth. Alright, Melody, you can complete her answer."
Melody: "Note Beasts have a certain essence anyone can just sense. We know what we see is a Note Beast, just because we know. That essence is measured in what we call "levels". That's why we know how strong a Note Beast is at all time."
Carlston: "Alright... Any questions before we go to the gymnasium for the summons?"

Tina: "Fools! All of you! Monsters you can't defeat? That thought process is what gets you killed! Never run away from a fight!"
Patrick: "But... What if we actually can't win?"
Tina: "Silence! I'll have to spell it out for you won't I? Where was Grumble when we were outside? In this very classroom. Did you hear me give him any orders? No you didn't, cause I didn't. The lesson is that your Note Beast can not only win a fight on it's own, but it doesn't have to always be by your side. Your Note Beast is the reason you never run away. Because it can, then come back to save your skin. Your Note Beast is your life insurance."
She starts untying you, then sees Gilly's aggressive glare.
Tina: "Maybe blondie will only get untied on her summon turn. Are you fools ready or do you have questions?"

You see, let's talk about Patrick's punch. The reason it did nothing is not because "punching a rock is stupid". It's because your essence is less powerful than Grumble. We can't sense each other's essence, but we can sense those of the Note Beasts. I'm sure you knew Grumble had a significantly more powerful essence than you. This difference is also why he defeated you in one hit. If you get more powerful and want a rematch against him, I'm sure you'll notice your progress.
Now, what do you do against someone or something with a stronger essence? You outsmart them. You can't hurt them? Well, attack the tree next to them and see if they resist it falling on them. Adapt.

Elegra nods along with Tina's explanation. "What would you have done? In our place." She doesn't seem like she's being a smartass or anything, she seems genuinely curious.

All 13 students end up in the gymnasium. You're placed in a line and are told you'll all get your turn at performing in front of the altar.
You just have to play the song of your choice in front of it and your Note will do the job.
This is it. You're becoming a Conductor right now.
(RP-wise you go one after the other, but you can just post all at the same time. I'll update this when I get home, cause you get to see the other students summon.)
