Your gambit to stop getting yelled at by doing what Ranulf says works.
It also gives you a better look around the store. It's... about what you expected. Everyone from before is here in a cage, other than the staff members - Sara, Pikpik, and Somnis. Also that poofy orange cat that Somnis is still petting.
It also gives you a chance to think while Ansei, in the form of a fox, runs well behind you. Ranulf stays behind him, giving him motivation in a slightly sarcastic way.
Key... Key... There's no break room key here. Or so everyone says. So either everyone's lying, or it's not here. Where else could a key be? Has anyone else mentioned one...?
After a few laps, Somnis seems to have completed petting the orange cat. She scoops it up. "Welp, into the cages with you! Don't worry, we'll find a sweetie like you a home really quick!"
"...Mrro?"

The cat hisses and bats her in the face.
"Ow! ...You're a mean little dogachu, huh? Come on." She starts carrying the cat off to the displays while muttering quietly. "Home... Which way is home...?"

You start poking around inside Somnis.
Someone's edited her a bit. Turned her employment setting to 'pet store employee' and turned down her critical thinking stat. Most of it's her backstory from TDS which you obviously already completely know, no inconsistencies there. But they deleted the part of her backstory between the worlds smashing together and whenever she got edited. Deleted. Gone. Nothing to restore.
Also Ranulf is still dragging Inari around, but seems satisfied you're talking to Somnis. And Awkward's... lying discarded in the corner.
