Six months ago, a team of heroes was assembled to take down King Bowser Koopa and his cross-dimensional castle. Through incredible effort and talent, they succeeded, only to discover the horrifying truth. They had been played, as their participation and losses had fed an even worse threat – Black Lanterns. These intelligent, super-powered undead had everything their originals had in life except for those pesky morality and heroism things. Those who had defeated Bowser, known as the Elevator Heroes for their preferred choice of cross-world travel, were now the best hope for stopping this mounting threat. Unsatisfied with their way of doing things, additional factions were given rise to, including the Exotic Express (a party crew traveling with endless exuberance) and now, a brand new one.
A simple scroll, written in fine loopy handwriting, is ready for you. Adventurers, some strong, some weak, must rise to the challenges of the worlds and the Black Lanterns. And that's where you come in – two adventurers to a pair, chosen from your favorites to join a brand new faction. Games? Sure. Movies? Oh yeah. Toons? Definitely. Vitcon games? Heck, why not? While I personally recommend characters from different worlds to make things interesting, that's no requirement. Just fill out the scroll, and your adventurers will be invited to the grand opening of Harrow Plains, the door to endless worlds. But keep in mind that this is no ordinary squad – anti-heroes and villains aren't just allowed to be involved, they're encouraged!
Who are you? What do you look like? Where are you from? Why are you qualified? When did you meet?
For the last question, if the characters are from different worlds, you can either come up with something slick or just say they were introduced by someone, and I can set you up.
But you ask, Punk, what will being part of this faction entail? I'm glad you brought that up – you'll be traveling through a selection of the choicest worlds possible, each chock full of assets and allies to add to your wheelhouse. The goal is overall to become powerful, but don't take too long. If you do, things will happen with or without you, and you could even fail to stop the Black Lanterns.
Hope this meets your expectations, folks – this one's a doozy.

Is this the continuation of Cemetery Gates or a new thing?

It's a reboot-continuation. New timeline with some impacts from the previous one.

Out of the box idea, but can I sign up a solo character with summons that he call call in a will (one at a time, multiple at once would probably be overpowered with who I have in mind) in place of a constant partner? I'm thinking of using Golbez with the Four Fiends and the Shadow Dragon with the latter saved for particularly dangerous fights.

Who are you? Fawful and Rosalina aka Beauty and the Bean
What do you look like?
Fawful looks like a humanoid bean wearing a red cape and those swirly glasses. Pretty much his Bowser Inside Story Look
Rosalina looks like she does in Mario Galaxy.
Where are you from?
Fawful: Bean Bean Kingdom Rosalina: Somewhere in the vast Galaxy. Or The Comet Observatory.
Why are you qualified?
Fawful: I mean he's a returning vet or not depends on how much memory he has of the first one. Oh and he's a skilled engineer and well an unlimited amount of the fury.
Rosalina: Galaxy Goddess enough said.
When did you meet? ?? Hmm how much would they know about the Black Lantern army ahead of time.

This actually works fine with a new mechanic I've been working on, influenced by Knuckles Chaotix. As long as he has what's considered a partner available, he should be golden regardless of which of them he had around.

Who are you? Isaac Clarke (Dead Space series) and Toy Ridley (Nintendo Land) What do you look like? Where are you from? In the immediate, they are from planet Tau Volantis, which is a frozen planet. A frozen planet in bad shape after the events of Dead Space 3. Isaac's homeworld is Earth, in a distant future. Toy Ridley's origin is unknown. He was originally warped into existence by an evil entity called Anti-Monita. Why are you qualified? Isaac survived three necromorph invasions, while Toy Ridley is a living weapon. When did you meet? After defeating the Necromorph Moon, Isaac was stranded alone on Tau Volantis and realised there were still Necromorphs on it. He learned that multiple necromorph moons were making their way towards Earth. In his way to find a way off of Tau Volantis to save Earth, he found Toy Ridley instead. After activating it, Toy Ridley's warped to his last known coordinates, bringing Isaac with him... These last coordinates were the world of Gates.

Hmm. I wasn't going to join a continuation because I liked my own headcanon, but a reboot.
Now this is interesting. And I can read everyone's posts without feeling lost like last time...
Okay. I have a question. Where should we limit our power? I'm trying to decide if I want to play as a powerful asshole, something good for collecting stuff like Pokemon, or a support role for the other players, working in less combative scenes and taking a more diplomatic or crafting approach to help the others get stronger instead of focusing solely on myself. Or maybe a pairing of those two.
A better question is, if I choose a non combat heavy character, can it balance out with a partner on the stronger side? Or is that not fair?

Approved initially, to answer your questions, Fawful has no memory of the first one. As for Black Lanterns, since they're being recruited for this cause, they'd probably have been informed about it very recently. As in, just before being given a scroll. That will probably be the case for most players unless someone wants to make someone whose backstory includes having fought a BL.

You should limit your power in a general sense to what could make for good narrative cohesion. For example, you really don't want characters that can just like, nuke buildings without putting in some work, or trivialize non-extreme levels of combat in general. However, I absolutely encourage you to diversify your characters. They should be fairly different from one another in function and specialty, so by all means having a diplomat or crafter or other non-combatant would be very fun. As you recall, last time, megaman played as Axel from Disgaea and President Prinny, the latter of whom mostly administrated from his office! TBQH, that would be trickier in this one since in a general sense the characters will be staying together as opposed to splitting up, but there's still plenty of variety to be enjoyed! Edit: The closest comparison would probably be the NPC team Nabiki Tendo and Domon Kasshiu, the former of whom was literally just a grifter/fast talking girl and the latter of whom was a badass mecha pilot.

I'm thinking Toy Ridley fought the Black Lantern and was defeated while warping, which led to him being deactivated on Tau Volantis.
But his data core or whatever was damaged and he has no information on the Black Lanterns.

When I did Wario and Fawful back before Wario killed himself by lighting his farts on fire. Wario was the muscles and more of the take charge type.
Fawful was more about operating from behind the scenes and relied on his tools and brain (and fury can't forget the fury.).
With Rosalina she's going to be more diplomatic and more trying to get others to work together (plus I always viewed her as a powerful mage like character combat wise.). Also since she's very motherly she's also a caretaker.
Fawful is going to be Fawful and him and Pikachu (maybe Pixy again but if not her another Pikachu) will go ahead and raise fury and chlortles.

Toy Ridley is gonna be the fighting force.
Isaac is fully able to handle his own, he's pretty powerful, but I like to highlight his job as an engineer when I play as him.
With that said, must I choose his 4 weapons or he has access to every weapon in the series?

With that said, must I choose his 4 weapons or he has access to every weapon in the series? This game is actually going to have a limited inventory system to make pickups more meaningful. It's bags from Warcraft that you'll be using instead of the dimensional storage system of the original. Space will be at a premium, so I really don't recommend lugging around an entire arsenal. Probably best to start with the four, if that's okay?
