"Sorry..." Natsumi says. "I don't... Nevermind."
Alice frowns, then shrugs. "I've been to the Otherworld alone plenty of times. This place seems... safe enough. Come on."
"Right! The lake was, um... This way!" Natsumi takes off down the path to the right.
The rest of you follow after her, only to find her stopped on the path a bit ahead. She holds up an arm to stop you, and another finger up to her mask's mouth.
You peak around the last bend in the path to see... someone here, wearing some kind of metallic, black outfit with a huge sword slung across their back. They're crouched down on the lake, examining the red paint. The sound of footsteps catches your attention, and Alice grabs you by the scruffs of the neck and drags you back.
"Iota!" a robotic voice yells. "Why the Hell did you turn your radio off?"
"I thought I heard something," a near-identical voice answers. "Look. Someone was here within the last few days."
"Huh? Forget about that! Beta found Monarch, but they're being attacked by a group of leeches!"
"Ah, that's no good. If they were to finish off the Beast..."
"Yeah, yeah, I know! Come on, already!"
You hear the sound of the pair running off to the left.
"Leeches..." Alice mutters quietly. "I'm going to take a shot in the dark and say whatever they are, they're probably responsible for the thin aether here... And if they're going after the local Beast..."
"That... would be really bad," Natsumi concludes. "Should we follow them?"
Alice frowns. "...Yeah. I'm going to. Maybe the rest of you should back off."

"That's... we don't know what their goal is or who they are. There's a chance that's the case, but there's also a chance that they want to fucking kill us. So we should follow them quietly until we know more or until we have to get involved."

"Most of the monsters here have an intelligence on the level of an animal in our world. Even the Beasts - sure, they're smart enough to talk, but they just instinctively attack anything they consider a threat. Most are probably trying to kill you because they're hungry or because they sensed a strong emotional- this isn't the time for this," Alice says. "Come on."
You follow behind the two figures. They're moving at a run, so it's not hard to track them, and they don't seem to be paying attention behind them. You pass the lone tree, then get to the field of flowers. They take a right, and you're in unexplored territory. A slope wraps around, climbing up the edge of the cliff. You find yourselves on the top of it, almost directly above the cave at the bottom.
The sound of fighting from nearby gets your attention. You look around one last bend in the path to see a small clearing. The giant butterfly is lying on the ground, weakly flapping its wings like it's trying to fly. Two more of those black armors are standing on either side. One has a long staff, the other a sword and shield. A half-dozen of those crab-looking things are swarming around the butterfly.
One stabs at the one with the shield, who deflects it then stabs the monster, followed by a quick slash. Unlike when you fought, the weapon seems to be much more effective. On the other side, the one with the staff bats one away with the staff then stands in the way of another.
The ones you were following are quick to join in. The one with the greatsword leaps into the air and cleaves the attacking Shieldy deeply enough you expect it to split in half.
"Hang on... Charge 60, 70..." The other hefts the cannon onto their shoulder and blasts one of the ones away from Staff. A beam pierces through its shell without any difficulty. "Gotcha...!"
"Took you long enough, Iota. Where were you?" Shield asks.
"Investi- behind you!"
One one the crabs stabs its stinger into the butterfly, then rips it free and starts scuttling away from the group and down the path on the far side. The butterfly starts moving slower.
"Damn it! It's heading for the portal!" Laser says. "Get-"
"Unless you want Monarch to die, we're just going to have to deal with it later!" Sword yells.
"Ah, that's not good," Natsumi says. "What should we do?"
"They're too busy to stop us from going after the straggler..." Alice says. "It'd probably be a good time to get the drop on them, too."

Tai closes his eyes and thinks for a moment.
"It seems like they want to keep Monarch alive and they have a way or doing it. If we attack now then they might not be able to do what shit they're going to. I vote we watch and wait."

"Right... Everyone check your masks and make sure they don't get a good look at you," Alice says.
"Um... But..."
"They already know who I am," Alice says. "No point in me wearing a mask anymore. Come on."
Alice draws her sword and goes running across the field.
The one with the cannon turns at the sound of running. "Who- Alice? What the Hell are- who are-"
"Ignore them, focus on protecting Monarch!" the one with the sword and shield yells.
Cannon snorts. "Fine." They do as told.
The monsters turn on you while you run past, but the group in black armor take advantage of the situation to attack them, giving you an opening.
Iota pauses long enough to call out to you as you run past. "If you're going after that straggler, be careful!" they yell. "They consume aether, so trying to fight them with a Soul Key is very difficult! Just try to slow it down and help will be there soon!"
You manage to run past the battle without being attacked, and continue on the path on the other side. It slopes up towards what seems to be the peak of the mountain. At the end of the slope, you spot a small clearing surrounded by the colorless trees. In the center sits a glowing portal... and one of those leeches making a break for it.
"Take it down!" Alice orders.
A shadowy cat appears on Natsumi's shoulder as you prepare for battle.

Leia will use Clothes Attacks, targeting specifically the needle arm if it changes anything.

Tai shoots a rope from his gun and it wraps around the crab. Leia fires some pants at the monster, wrapping it around the thing's arm.
Alice raises her sword, then notices what you're all doing. Instead of charging in, she takes a defensive stance.
"Nekomata!" Natsumi calls out. The cat on her shoulder vibrates, then unleashes a spark at the crab. The crab barely reacts. "Come, Kodama!" A small green ball appears at her side.
The crab shakes itself, faster and faster. Spines go shooting out of its shell. Alice manages to deflect the one heading for her. One stabs into Leia's shoulder and another into Tai's shin. They shred right through your armor like it's not there, and unlike any attack you've felt in the Otherworld so far. One catches Natsumi in the stomach, and another in each of her summons. She groans in pain and drops to one knee, her key already buzzing in protest. "I... I'm OK," she assures you.
