Mendel, Main Reception
Stephen and Campbell proceed to convert the vending machine into a makeshift shield and put it in front of the door. They shove the door open, and are met with the sound of gunfire. Bullets ping off the vending machine as they push it forward, until they hear the soft click of an empty pistol repeating over and over. Campbell moves around the vending machine and grabs the guy. He seems too stunned to speak, but the gun clatters to the floor.
With a better look around, this seems to be a small storage closet, just big enough for a person to sit in. Toilet paper, food - mostly snack foods and drinks that look like they're for refilling the vending machine, and a few dozen of them empty and eaten. A bundle of clothes is huddled up like a makeshift bed.
Mendel, Decontamination Room
Sheila wanders into the decontamination room and proceeds to sniff the floor. Smells like disinfectant and other unfamiliar chemicals. Whatever they're using is way stronger than the Nonah's decontamination showers.
Another two members of the away team walk in after her. "Let's see... This button activates the airlock, right?" One of them cautiously pushes it, and the outer door slides shut and locks. The shower activates, followed by the ultraviolet lights. After a minute, the inner door unlocks.
One of the soldiers coughs. "Ugh, nasty. Marris is in here, yeah?"
Mendel, Secondary Reception
Marris proceeds to investigate the reception desk for clues. When he moves behind it, he immediately notices something wrong. An open bag of potato chips is sitting half-eaten... with a severed arm reaching into the bag. A splatter of blood around the area makes it clear this was done here. A patch on the sleeve of the arm identifies the arm as a former member of the station security team.
The door to the airlock pings as it unlocks. A sign above it labeled 'ARRIVAL' lights up.
