Charon takes the gem from your hand and allows you to sit in his boat. He actually seems quite pleased. You think. "Graaaaaaahhhh..."

As the two of you sit down on the boat, he reaches for a paddle and slowly rows out into the fog.

You sit on the boat, waiting for quite some time as he paddles through. This fog is really thick. So thick, in fact, that you can barely even see right in front of your face. A short while later, you find yourselves actually breaking out of the fog. But you're not alone...

There's somebody else sitting in Charon's boat with you. Somebody new.

The three of you are then rowed back to the pier and Charon steps off the boat, motioning for you to step onto the pier. It must be the same one you just left because the same people are still here and Death's Door is still on the island.

Justine

You walk up to lab and the glass doors automatically open for you. Must have motion sensors. You step inside and see two people awaiting you. One is a rather bored-looking woman with purple hair sitting behind the counter, scribbling some paperwork. The other is a middle-aged man with black hair and a full beard. He's wearing a lab coat.

"Ah, finally. Someone has arrived!" The man gives you a welcoming smile. "I was wondering if we showed up at the wrong place. My name is Professor Saggitar. It's a pleasure to meet you, young lady." He looks over at the woman. "Aren't you going to introduce yourself, Mira?"

"...No."

He shakes his head. "How very impersonal." He turns back to you. "Hmm. You don't look like the one we're waiting for though. I suppose Liz will have to wait on the summoning process. What is it that you came here for, young lady? Perhaps you have a monster you need a Capture Rune for?"

Justine

"Hm? Oh, yes. Of course." The professor steps forward and inspects the egg closer. "This definitely looks like the type of egg we can hatch. I believe there's something in here."

Mira sighs. "I'll get the papers for instant incubation..."

Saggitar turns back to Justine. "This will take just a moment. Please, feel free to relax in the waiting room." He motions toward a bunch of comfy-looking chairs in the main lobby. There are a few books and magazines sitting around for you to read.

You decide to take a seat as Saggitar takes your egg out back. As you sit, you absentmindedly flip through some of the reading material. It's all information about monster taming and how to care for monsters. This is probably some stuff you should learn about considering the situation...

"Beginner's Guide to Monster Taming"

"The first and most important thing to learn about when it comes to monster taming is learning where monsters come from. There are four ways of acquiring monsters. The first is with a Capture Rune.

Capture Runes are items you can get for free at the Monster Lab. They each take up one individual inventory slot, so keep in mind that taming monsters can quickly overfill your inventory if you aren't careful. If you meet a monster that is willing to join you on your adventure, you may use the Capture Rune to bring it along with you. You can summon the monster to help you at any time. Keep in mind that you can only have two monsters summoned at a time. Anymore than that and you risk breaking your runes. Remember: Every monster needs a Capture Rune regardless of how you recruit them!

The second way is with summoning. If you gather enough monster data, you'll be able to summon your own monster using the data you've collected. The types of monsters you've seen and the information you've collected on them will all be used to create a new monster to aid you in battle. You can then put this new monster in a Capture Rune and bring it with you.

The third way is breeding and hatching. Two monsters can breed to create an offspring together. This will result in an egg. Eggs can be brought to the lab for incubation. Once incubated, an egg will hatch into a new monster. Eggs typically result in small, weaker monsters, but these monsters tend to be stronger in the long run. Egg monsters have a special trait unlike other types of monsters. They can grow and change over time, becoming something much stronger later on.

The final way is with fusion. If you have two different monsters, you can use the Monster Lab to fuse them together. Fusing monsters will always create a stronger monster using attributes from both monsters. While this is a quick way of getting stronger monsters, keep in mind the two monsters you used to perform the fusion will be lost forever."

This is all pretty useful information. You decide to keep the Beginner's Guide to Monster Taming just in case you need it later.

Just as you finish reading, Professor Saggitar comes walking out of the back room, holding a little monster in his hands.

It's a round, blob-like creature with a star on its forehead. It has two round eyes and a small bunny tail. Its whole body is covered in shiny, black fur. The creature is entirely silent, but bounces its way over to you, snuggling up to your leg.

Saggitar smiles. "It looks like it likes you. Here, this is its Capture Rune. You can store it inside and summon it whenever you need." He looks at the small blob. "You should give it a name. You'll find it much easier to train monsters once you've named them."

Justine

"Well, in my experience, monsters tend to become stronger through battle. Although yours is quite young and it isn't very strong yet. I have a few monsters of my own you could practice battle against, if you would like. I'll use the weaker ones so it's less difficult. Just be warned, they're a bit aggressive."

Mira places a stack of papers away in a file cabinet. "You could also just go adventuring with it. Any experience is good for a young monster. It will be shaped by whatever you do with it too..."

Justine

"Of course. Follow me outside. I wouldn't want to break anything inside here with a battle. This is very expensive equipment, you know!"

You follow Professor Saggitar outside...

The two of you make your way through the exit portal and find yourselves back on Fataland. It seems like things have changed quite a bit since you were last here. For one, there's multiple new buildings and characters standing around here.

There's what looks like a hooded jackal man sitting on a carpet, selling various goods. A massive laboratory has sprung up since you were last here with what looks like an ATM in front of it. The pier seems incredibly busy with a small crowd gathered around and a ferry boat.

It looks like multiple newcomers are making their way onto the island, led by a hooded creature. He looks similar to Death. Maybe they're related?

You also notice that there's a small church here now. That definitely wasn't there before.

The boy is still breathing heavily. "Ngh...water..."

Before you can bring him anywhere, you notice what looks like a battle taking place in the island square.

Justine

"Be ready, miss Justine. My Pokemon aren't your everyday variety."



You see the man reach for something that is definitely NOT a capture rune. It's a red and white sphere. He presses the button on it, throwing it forward. A bright flash comes from the ball and you find yourself standing off against a little lizard creature.

It's green, with two tails and a red belly. It looks like there's a shadowy aura surrounding it. The creature stares you down angrily.

You send Luna out to do battle for you, seeing as she's your only monster.

“Not in the slightest”, Rasim replies while approaching the two fighting to get a better look at what’s going on but staying far enough back to not interfere.
