Malik is silencious for a few minutes, then speaks:

You know when I said I defeated the Baron Crow? Well... That's actually more complicated than that... I didn't defeat him in battle, because that was impossible...
Let me start by the beginning:
I already told you of my adventure with the Hydra, but that was before I went to live in Anuryl with my brothers.
When I received a letter from them to go live with them, I immediately accepted. They were so young when I left and I wanted to see what they became. Thankfully, our brotherly bonds instantly came back.
The first night when I came to Anuryl, one of my brother became some kind of spirit. I don't know where the others were, but I was the only one who saw that. I followed the spirit of my brother into some kind of portal and we ended up in a labyrinth inside another world. There, I defeated the Eye King amd received the stone of the future.
This is where it all began... When the Baron Crow put a target on my back. He wanted the 3 time stones and I had one. Anyone who possessed the three stones could control time.
Of course, I wouldn't have let anyone have the 3 stones, not even me. I ended up finding the holder of the stone of the past: Ellie...
I'm not sure if I loved her or not, but she was important to me... That's for sure.
Then one day I was left alone, simply for 10 minutes and it was enough for me to be knocked out and brought to the Crow Baron.
I knew what would happen: he would kill me and take the stone. Honestly, I didn't care about dying, until I realised that my brothers would go berserk and try to avenge me by attacking this man which was obviously too powerful for them to defeat.
It was clear to me: if I died, they died...
So I did something I still regret... I started working for him, because I realised that if someone is to defeat him, we have to defeat him in his own games of manipulations. I was going to be a Trojan Horse.
I can go into more details about my plan and how it worked out in the end, but that's not what's important to me...
What's important is how Ellie looked at me when she found out I worked for the Crow Baron... How she stopped trusting me...
My brothers understood what I was doing, but she didn't...
And then I realised... Is there any place for love when you're an adventurer? What's the point of loving someone if you might have to betray them to protect them?
Should I have let him kill me? Did I do the right thing back then?
Can I honestly try to have a relationship with someone if there's a chance I might have to pull off something like that again?"
