Wolfman throws a Snowball at the tentacle along with a copy. If the tentacle tries to reach them, Basilisk will intercept with Bite.
(I considered using Mirror Status to inflict it with Fear, but somehow I get the feeling that a tentacle of darkness is immune to becoming afraid.)

The tentacle grabs the guard frozen in fear and starts absorbing him. Basilisk tries to stop it with a bite, but the tentacle reaches it's target.
Elliot: "NO!!!!!"
Elliot angrily slashes the tentacle, but it just continues to absorb the man and gets bigger.
Elliot: "WHAT IS THIS THING?"
Wallace seems hesitant to punch the tentacle, but doesn't go through with it.
Tutankapuchon fully heals everyone as the Wolfman throws a snowball at the enemy, followed by a copy.
The tentacle is moving in an erratic fashion.
Tutankapuchon: "Be careful. I think it's gonna use projectiles."

(If you're implying this is a mission you can't win, there is no such thing in this game.
In fact, this was a scripted win as soon as you brought Wallace with you.)
Everyone takes cover, except Tutankapuchon who creates an aura of wind around himself. As the tentacle shoots black orbs at him, they are just launched away by the wind.
The tentacle detaches itself from the corpse and starts crawling on the ground.

Get back up and stay on the move, trying to stay away from the tentacle. Wolfman will throw another knife, and Mirror Mage will mimic the Tentacle shooting orbs at the real version of it. Basilisk will go in for a bite when the tentacle isn't paying attention before running back the hell away to get back to safety.

Mirror Mage stands back up, staying away from the tentacle, as it jumps on Wallace and wraps itself around him.
Wallace screams in fear, but after a few seconds, the Tentacle itself screams, as light comes out of it and the thing explodes.
Wallace looks around in fear, confused about what just happened.
Elliot: "WHAT?"
Tutankapuchon: "Is that a new trick?
Stay on your guard..."
Suddenly, it's day like it's supposed to be again.
Tutankapuchon: "Interesting...
Seems like The Shadow is actually gone..."
Elliot: "What was that all about sage?"
Tutankapuchon: "Well, if you're interested about The Shadow, I'll be in my tent. It's a better place to talk and we won't be in the way of the repairs.
Elliot follows the sage, while Wallace is frozen in confusion.
The Guards are looking around and start trying to tidy up everything.

Mirror Mage desummons their monsters and quietly looks at Wallace as if thinking before following Tutankapuchon.

Mirror Mage and Elliot follow Tutankapuchon as they stop in front of the sage's tent, pretty much destroyed.
Tutankapuchon: "Wait a minute while I clean that up..."
The sage uses a spell, as the tent rebuilds itself and everything is replaced inside.
Tutankapuchon: "Come in and sit down please."
Elliot looks at Mirror Mage: "I can't believe we're the only ones interested by this.
So, what did we just fight?"
Tutankapuchon: "If I'm correct, that was what we call "The Shadow"...
You see, not long after the monsters reappeared, a giant sphere of darkness appeared in the Water Land. Around that sphere, it seems to always be night time. Soldier were sent to watch it, but as it was simply an inanimate sphere, we didn't make much of it. The suddenly, it started to grow... It still didn't do anything harmful though, but we tried many things to see if we could make it smaller again. Nothing seemed to have any effect on it though. Then one day, the soldiers didn't come back from their shift. We sent other soldiers to investigate and they were attacked by giant tentacle, absorbing them into The Shadow. They retreated. We tried many times to fight it, but there's never much survivor. The Shadow still keeps growing more and more as each day passes.
The tentacle we just destroyed seemed to correspond to the description of The Shadow's tentacles. I don't know how it came out from someone's body, but this is definitely foreboding."
Elliot listens, but doesn't seem to really understand what he's told.

Tutankapuchon: "Hmm... Is that your theory?
I was thinking that whatever it was, maybe it can't actually survive outside of The Shadow. Maybe it existed only for a limited period of time... And it expired when it was bout to absorb Wallace...
You might be right though, but do we really want to risk the life of a human being for a simple theory?"

Tutankapuchon: "All we know is that it keeps growing and gaining new abilities. Oh... and event though it's in their territory, the pirates doesn't want to do anything about it...

No further questions from Mirror Mage, I think I've got a bit of an understanding. Big black sphere, tentacles absorb whatever they touch, no known motives or way to defeat, but seems to either only last so long away from the sphere or be incapable of absorbing Wallace. Most likely is going to be either the final boss or at least a major driving force of the plot.
